Use a very large HV power supply and 2 conductors inside a low-pressure tube.

BTW in a serious note, don't actually do this.
There's a high chance you'll get x-rays or even neutron-activate various materials.
In any case it's very dangerous and shouldn't be attempter by anyone with just average or below average knowledge on the subject.or radiation safety and nuclear physics.

Submerging it in water would also be acceptable.

Really though, you shouldnt do this if you arent experienced in working with high voltages. Or with extremely low pressure vacuum systems.

There are many ways you could very easily kill yourself doing this.

Well there's the chamber imploding as you mentioned.

High voltage arcing. Insulation will be a bit of an issue. at 50kv, even wood conducts electricity.

The xrays and UV generated can be stopped relitively easily. The neutrons are the dangerous part.

Since neutrons are not charge carrying, they are very hard to stop. The pass through pretty much anything. When they are absorbed by a material, they have the nasty tendency of making that material radioactive. (the neutron is absorbed by another nucleus, that atom becomes a radioactive isotope and decays.

This happening within your body caused by neutron exposure is very very bad.

Building is easy, gathering parts takes awhile. Took me months to find an appropriate supply that was only a few hundred dollars.

please don't use lead for neutron moderation/shielding. it has no effect. water with boric acid is good, as well as cadmium-113

You mean like yourself? You can't get fusion with just "2 conductors and HV." An actual fusor needs to have an extremely high vacuum and, most importantly, deuterium; two things a novice would not be able to obtain. A demo fusor like the one in the OP will generate, at most, a ultraviolet light.

A "demo fusor," also known as a star in a jar. An actual fusor capable of fusion is much bigger, not made of glass, but gets the same visual result. Ultimately, the difference between a fusor and the thing in the OP is the radiation profile---ie real fusors emit the aforementioned x-rays and neutrons, demo fusors do not.

That thing would implode before emitting a single neutron.
