What is it?

What is it?

>if I use unclear notation I can create an entire thread full of bickering!

Nothing about he notation is unclear. People just forget to do the multiplication/division from left to right as the order of operations says. Answer is 9.

>garaunteed replies

Its 9 obviously. I can't get why some people get this wrong.

6/2(1+2)
= 6/2*(3)
= 6/6
= 1

What's written in the picture has no mathematical meaning.

It's like asking for the definition of "ayewfgoayfedna97w".

>the numerals have no meaning
>the division sign has no meaning
>the parenthesis have no meaning
>the equals sign has no meaning
>the implied multiplication sign has no meaning

wrong

6/2(1+2)
= 6/2*3
= 3/6
= 9

>3/6

I meant 3*3

The individual things have meanings on their own. There is no meaning when they are combined in certain ways, such as how it was done in the picture.

Why are you multiplying before you divide? Why do you think a multiplication somehow takes preference?

i acknowledge i was being presumptuous and multiplication shouldn't take preference. the answer is definitely 9

>what is an equation

>What is it?
An ambiguous use of notation.

Except there's no convention such as "distribution precedes multiplication". Not ambigious. Compute parenthesis, then left to right (=9).

There is no good answer.

There is no "left to right" order, the notation used in OP is unclear, end of story
>inb4 falling fir the b8

>3/6 = 9

the answer is 9, nothing is unclear you're all just fucking brain damaged

i corrected myself here

MATHEMATICIANS BTFO THEIR LIFE HAS BEEN A LIE

>you're all just fucking brain damaged

The only guy who said anything other than 9 changed his mind, who are you referring to

But that's fucking wrong user

They're on suicide watch for sure.

valid single line notation, result is 9.
