The Metamorphosis was pretty good.
>inb4 cockroach, turkish being able to write
why does /pol/ have to ruin every thread?
never read anything from turkey
I don't like German literature.
...
They think they're smart, that they're sharp but only thing they do is recyling the same meme while not wanting to learn about the culture trying to be satirical about. They are just people misguided.
I've started reading this.
Only one I know about is Pamuk, don't know where the h goes, don't care enough to look it up
As far as I know the image of Turkish lit in Europe is inexistent aside from him, and his fame must come from a prize
I received 'Memleketimden İnsan Manzaraları' today in the mail. It was translated last year in my country last year. I hope it's good. I also enjoy Pamuk's novels
I don't think anyone here in the U.S. can even name a single Turkish writer, and I'm no exception. I would love to get some recommendations, though.
Turkish Romance Novel
A brilliant novel/mesnevi(a story written in the form of poetry) by Turkish poet Nazim Hikmet.
If you like classical action novels Mehmed My Hawk by Yaşar Kemal(the first Turkish writer to be nominated to Nobel Prize for Literature),but if you like the post-modern novels Ferit Edgu might be your thing.
Yeah, but they obviously don't read the literature that they feel so apt to comment on while they're on Veeky Forums. Why continually ooze over from other board to Veeky Forums?
I mean, I understand the nationalist approach and the apprehension to globalization, but shitposting on other boards doesn't do anything. And making jokes about "lol turkish people = roaches" isn't even clever, nor does it even make a political statement.
lmao
Only literary work they need is Mein Kampf they think.Reason these people are edgefest2016'ing is that they don't think they care about global culture and humanisme.
What sort of stories you like?I might recommend some shit.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to read it. Unfortunally we only have one translator from turkish here, so there isn't a lot of books. He also translated Dede Korkut, Sinekli Bakkal, Tuna Kiremitçi -Dualar Kalıcıdır and Oya Baydar - Kayıp Söz. Should I check out any of these?
Orhan Pamuk is the only Turkish author with any reputation internationally, sadly.
kek
People don't "ooze over". People don't "belong" to a board. People can browse Veeky Forums and /pol/, that doesn't mean they're "from /pol/". People can actually have different opinions than you and still like literature.
I've read something by Pamuk (The Black Book) and wasn't really blown away (maybe too-high expectations; I had the same response to Saramago). I'm intrigued by the premise of The Museum of Innocence but there other aspects to the story that I find off-putting so I haven't read it.
I'm curious about reading Shafak some time.
topkek
you're obviously from /pol/
Ironically, your typing is really tumblr-like. 'people' can x and still be whatever, makes you sound like you got your head up your ass.
I guess thanks for standing up for the poor, marginalized /pol/ack and signal boosting /pol/ voices. We need to make Veeky Forums a safe space for racially concious people of whiteness, be they white nationalists, natsocs or just racist libertarians
I've read a bunch of Tur*s' works.
My opinion on them... well, their stuff tends to feel quite cockroachy.
Based adventure book.
It's an /int/ meme. Not a /pol/ one.
Fucking butthurt roaches.
>MEMED, MY HAWK
im dying
>he doesn't know the difference between /int/ and /pol/
btw, "turkroach" goes a lot deeper than just /pol/ since the ottomans ruled the balkans for a good few centuries
...
Almost non-existent. I've read maybe two Turkish books my whole life, and I'm 43. And I've read at least 10 Persian books.
read snow by pamuk. didn't like it. don't think i understand enough of the details of ethnic/religious conflict within turkey to care. the overarching themes were kinda trite
maybe his other stuff is better idk.
My sides
something about a retarded nation which let's itself get fucked up by a dictator
This is now an Erdogan thread.
So what do you Turks honestly think about him? Careful, he's watching.
Try asking Atatürk I'm sure he is happy about him.
>thinly veiled /pol/ thread
Why would anyone want to bread those creatures?
it doesn't require a manual I'll tell you that much

Went to Turkey as a kid, and my Dad got this as a gift. I'm relearning the language. What are your thoughts on this, OP?
>wasting your time on language when the country will soon get to the level of Syria
ilber ortayli is a great man, probably the best turkish historian. i didn't read that book but i'm sure it's great.
I went to Turkey at a very young age and the language doesn't seem hard for relearning. My country is going to turn Afghanistan in the future, actually, and I feel for the Turks.
Thanks for the tip, fellow erkek.
Wait
Is the joke that Metamorphosis is about a Turk because it's about a cockroach?
Or is the joke that Kafka's a Turk because he's German?
8/10, actually breddy gud /pol/
Kek
pls answer, turk bros
Fpbp
Recent events in Turkey show that this country is mainly populated by retards. So, I don't expect anything worth coming from there.
what country are you from?
Why can't you take a joke?
