Will he succeed at the first human head transplant Veeky Forums ?
Hi Veeky Forums my name is Dr Sergio Canavero AMA

I watched his Ted talk. I'd rather die than have him operate on me. Creepy as hell.
Nope, he won't, and as usual the media will have a shitfest about it. "BLAH BLAH BLAH FRANKENSTEIN LEGISLATION BLAH"
What was so creepy about him? Maybe he is just Italian?
You've been in a coma for quite some time.
No you've been in a coma for quite some time.
Oh.
I read about this.
When is the operation due for?
I'm intrigued
arent you a character in a videogame?
2017, happening in China I think. There is a Chinese surgeon doing multiple head transplant on mice daily as practice it is fucked up but fascinating at the same time. I hope they succeed if they do it will challenge everything we know about what makes a human, human, consciousness, the soul, personality. It will open up some interesting moral and ethical debates as well.
Can this guy trade heads between two living subjects?
Can this guy exchange the brain only rather than the whole head?
Would you exchange brains with someone if you had the chance?
if he succeeds on mice, he will definitely succeed on human. Mice are tiny, my surgeon says to operate a cat or a child is way trickier than an adult for the reason veins are of smaller diameter.

nerves, spinal cord etc. are the issue tho, not veins
How is cervical nerves reattachment solved?
Unless they have ace in their sleeve there is still huge room for failure.
>it will challenge everything we know about what makes a human, human, consciousness, the soul, personality
You do realize we already know that none of that shit comes from the body right ? It's all in the brain. You wouldn't call a heart transplant a massive challenge of everything you know about consciousness, would you ?
My surgeon doesn't transplant heads, but I guess nerves are tinier in mice too, so the argument is still valid.
Where does he gets the bodies from? Do their former owners "agreed" to lend their bodies to someone else? And in case they did how will he manage to restore the functionality of said bodies?
bikers
V has come to
>we know everything
Willful ignorance
Who?
That's not what he said idiot, transplanting a head on a different body will say shit about conciousness. Will it be a medical breakthrough, yes, but stop meming it to death. It's like saying the operation will challenge our understanding of particle physics. No it wont.
The donor body would just be taking the place of life support systems. The only way this would be amazing is if the head could control the donor body.
I'm curious how they're going to get around the whole "head rejecting the body" dilema.
This is the main problem.
>using meming unironiclly
REEEEEE
Wasn't a head transplant done on a monkey back in the 1980's and it worked? Then the monkey died about a day, a week, or a month later (I forgot how long the monkey survived) due to the body rejecting it?
>The donor body would just be taking the place of life support systems. The only way this would be amazing is if the head could control the donor body.
christ are you serious
so this project is shit.
No, the guy getting the transplant is suffering from a degenerative disease. His body is worthless regardless, and it's so weak that he's going to die soon no matter what happens.
Even if he can't move the new body, at least he's not going to flat-out die.
why would he even want to live in this case
You must be lost, this is Veeky Forums.
/b/ is just over there.
for science obviously
this is trialling new concepts and techniques. of course at this stage the body is just going to be a meat sack for the head, but give it 25 years and a few wi-fi brain implants talking to an exoskeleton could get you around.
also for science
Boss?
>No DIO shitposts
Wow and here I thought sci might have good taste
>ethical debate
Imagine the future, user.
"YOU CIS-HEADED SCUM".
I can't wait for it to happen, and then laugh or cry, maybe both.
Thank you.
PIECE OF SHIT
the asshole guys gonna get to have a NEW KIDNEY, NEW LIVER, HEART .......FUCK
THEY COULD SAVE SO MANY MORE PEOPLE WITH THE BODY
try transplanting a chimpanzee or something
>But give it 25 years and a few wi-fi brain implants talking to an exoskeleton could get you around.
You make it sound so grand user. Hopefully the patient survives the head surgery and his body doesn't reject/kill him, and he gets to live those 25 extra years to get exoskeleton.
BUT THEN WE'D NEVER KNOW WHAT FUCKING HAPPENS IF YOU STICK SOMEONE'S HEAD ON A NEW FUCKING BODY DIPSHIT
