A Feast for Crows is practically a literary novel. Nothing of consquence happens, there's just a bunch of wandering around, with some scenery and eating interspersed, and the book eventually just stops without anything resolved.

But yeah, I'll agree with you there, though I never experienced the problem because I read A Ball of Beasts which combines AFFC and ADWD into on book since they take place at the same time.

Obviously, Martin evaded conscription for Vietnam. That's why the actual war in it is so edgy and gritty compared to war written by people who actually were in one (Tolkien, Wolfe, Junger, etc.). You can see it's written by a hippy who never heard a gunshot.
