Hi Veeky Forums, So I've decided to broaden up my horizon and dive into the world of literature. I've actually never read a book in my life except some shitty novels I was forced to read in school (I read like 10 pages and gave up, so I just read summaries of them). I'm huge into anime and movies, but really want to try something new.
Anime I love: Madoka Welcome to the NHK K-on
Movies I like: Fight Club Inglorious Basterds Drive
I would greatly appreciate some recommendations, that fit within my taste. Thanks, guys.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Catcher in the Rye Slaughterhouse 5 Metamorphoses The Trial

Thanks man, but I'm looking for something more modern. I've read Kafka in school and despised it.

>more modern >Kafka
You mean contemporary since Kafka is one of the kings of modernism and also one of the greatest authors of all time
I get that you're either in high school or freshly done with it and your taste seems to agree, but please try to develop some actual taste
Joseph Miller
Do yourself a favor and just go back to your chink cartoons and movies

This is the book that got me into literature. Before this, all I liked was anime and American Ninja Warrior. It's very readable, I suggest you give it a try. Here's a link to the .pdf.
If you like animu and shit just pick a random book by Haruki Murakami and read it. It should be a fairly smooth transition. If you want something better, read The Lime Twig.
