thats not how perception works. For that you would be hardwired into the network ala neuromancer.

A copy of your brain could muck about independently, and you could even update your memory with its own (or stream it live), but fundementally to experience a virtual space in real time you would need your original brain/hardware ball.

Related to why most transporter systems are really just suicide/clone combos

>stealing memes literally involve breaking into someone's virtual house

Prove it faggot

This is really wrongheaded and I hate how people keep repeating it. There is no magic "you" module that a perfect copy of "you" lacks. The introduction of two "yous" confuses people's intuition about this, but the fact is "you" now isn't the same as "you" ten years ago. "You" is a convenient fiction that lets us group different things like behaviors and property together. While it's true "you" don't get carried over to exist as your copy when a copy is made, it's not as though "you" get carried over from one minute's version of your body to the next in the first place. A perfect artificial copy isn't any less a successful carryover of "you" as the one that happens naturally throughout tune from one moment to the next. You just have something extra in the artificial case because unlike with the natural case the first "you" continues to exist alongside the second "you." It doesn't make it any less of a carryover of "you" that there's an extra version still there at the same time. This is weird because we aren't used to that happening to anyone yet but it doesn't mean the copy is missing any of "you."

>the way porn sites must smell

>implying we would have shit senses like smell carried over after the singularity

Fucking sensory pleb.

You should talk to them about sleep and loss of consciousness and reanimation after braindeadness, many will argue that there is a tiny sliver of thought left that keeps you as one person.

no user because my soul would exit my physical frame and proceed to hell

Exactly, it's like everyone can see how the "self" idea isn't coherent in the case of copies but they all stop there and never question whether it was coherent in any other context to begin with.

Enter Veeky Forums/sci find its full of /pol/ stormtroopers, HAVE to listen to them coz its not the fucking internet - buy a swastica and goosestep about, destroy the utopian reality in whole program

So if someone made a perfect copy of you you would be alright with them killing you afterwards?

This. You are your physical brain.

The copy and you still won't share experiences. No matter how you try to define you or define the copy, you can't change the facts about the situation. The internet you and the physical you are separate entities.

It's not any different from how you five minutes ago and you now are two different entities. There is absolutely nothing missing that ever could be carried over to make the copy any more you then it already is. It's as legitimate as any other you. Having two yous doesn't diminish the copy's you-ness.

The whole "digital copy" is a meme, we don't even know what fucking consciousness is.

Here's a more realistic question: when will we make a brain-computer interface so we can exit these shitty mortal bodies and live forever with disposable robot bodies?

Yes. It's identical to the situation of me not having a copy made and just living normally from one moment to the next. What "connects" these momentary me's isn't some magical spirit thing, it's common memory data. Copies aren't any less me than originals if the data is the same.

won't happen

The real conclusion is that there is no you-ness. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self, that accretion of sensory experience and feelings, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody's nobody.

Yes, that exactly.

That'll haunt me for a while, but thanks for the realization.

Fortunately the you it's haunting doesn't really exist.
