Are there any YA novels of any literary merit?

My diary desu

1984 has YA-tier prose and themes, but it blows most modern YA out of the water

the catcher in the rye
the virgin suicides
Never let me go
infinite jest
rules of attraction
less than zero

My nigga.

Pick one.

1984 is not YA.

The Portrait of the artist as a young man

The Secret Garden

Alice in Wonderland

>The Secret Garden

Also add A Little Princess there.

I think you're wrong and maybe a little stupid. 1984 is a very easy read but the themes it explores are in no way simplistic. His exploration of the clash between the modern and postmodern, between the universal and the relativistic was done intelligently without feeling stuffy and overbearing. His development of the idea of newspeak in particular, how tyranny over language can create tyranny over thought was incredibly well laid out.

I think the fact that it's all comprehensible to a high school student, and can easily be read and also understood in an afternoon doesn't speak to Orwell's lack of lyrical talent but rather to his ability to effectively communicate complex ideas in simple ways.

is this fresh pasta?

Yes, that's precisely what I meant. Jesus, for a reading board you guys surely can't fucking read.

Nope

>the count of monte cristo
>NHK ni youkoso
>monogatari series
>the giver

No, not everyone has to resort to the copy/paste function to produce an argument that's neither in greentext or less than five or six clauses in length.

Don't project your own weaknesses onto others.

You faggle.

>infinite jest
This is a YA novel?

>comparing 1984 to modern ya

Just kill yourself

Watership Down

Isn't it the other way around? I have never read a good adult geared book but I love young adult books. All the good stuff is in the children and teenage sections of the library.

>brainlet can't into 1984
>projects his own stupidity as immense insight by a middling author
>accuses others of intellectual inadequacy

top keks

>brainlet
Hi sci, what you doing so far from home?

never been on sci in my life my brainlet friend

but i guess it's in character for you to be belligerently confident in your own errors

>The Portrait of the artist as a young man
just because it's a bildungsroman doesn't mean it's a YA novel.

Yeah, although it's a little easy and too short.

Not the one that are good.

Watership Down and The Count of Monte Cristo.
