The question is too broad. The best novel I can remember reading is Brothers Karamazov. The funniest book I've ever read was Our Dumb Century. Reading Amphigorey Too as a little kid terrified me, so that's probably my "scariest book." There was a history textbook of which I read about the first third on my own during HS, and that was the first time that I became aware of detailed info on Egyptology, Rome, Sumer, ancient civilization, and I remember even liking the prose, feeling like I was reading something "fully adult" for the first time. In terms of art books. M.C. Escher: His Life and Complete Graphic Work is both a catalogue raisonne of Escher's work and also a detailed biography. Escher is a meme artist, yes, but this is a serious through volume about a famous artist, which does a better job of explainin him than any other book.
