As far as I can figure with my minuscule understanding, life is meaningless, but only in an abstract sense. In a utilitarian sense, life has its meaning, but it is not one which is appreciated by most people.

If you explain to people that they are more or less cogs in a machine or numbers in an equation, they will be displeased with this answer. People want to be significant in a fantastic way, they want to stand on top. What they don't realize that being successful is almost always as unrewarding as being unsuccessful. The curse of humanity is to be perpetually unfulfilled and continually searching for something.

I don't mean by all of this to say that life is futile. What I mean is that existence of all kinds is meager and ultimately empty. Does this mean that you shouldn't continue to search for meaning or pursue your aspirations. No. But it does mean that you should be realistic and come to terms with the fact that dreams are almost always better than any reality, and that dreams themselves will often be your only reward.

The best you can do is do your best to not lose hope.
