I've just finished plowing through some of Vidal's work and I found Burr and Julian to be fantastic historical fiction.
Also, I'm known to recommend Mary Renault's Alexander trilogy, particularly The Persian Boy. They're so beautiful and well-written that I feel as if a part of me died in that time period when I finished reading those books.
The Legionary series is really good ancient Roman military fiction

Both of those series are really great, but not as good as Masters of Rome.
Any good fiction about ww1 or ww2? Preferably from a british pov.
Why doesn't more historical fiction make the canon?
Going to begin reading Azincourt by Bernard Cornwell today. Pretty excited.

To The Last Man and The Rising Tide by Jeff Shaara
That is a standalone novel right? Just read some of the extract and seems interesting. I remember a while back reading a different novel about the Battle of Agincourt and liking it.
Have you read The Last Kingdom?

Haven't read very much historical fiction at all, but Mary Renault's stories set in Ancient Greece are fantastic.

The Triumph of Caesar was dogshite.
The Flashman series is a lot of fun.
Graves' Cl cl cl Claudius books
Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson
I'm going to read Vidal's Julian soon as well as the play by Ibsen. He is a fascinating character. Apparently, Hitler loved that play and in his life there are many parallels to Ibsen's Julian.
Howard Fast's Spartacus is bretty good
that's a pretty decent show desu
>That is a standalone novel right?
Correct.
If you like Azincourt you should check out The Archer's Tale by Cornwell
Couple of adventures books:
Gentlemen of the Road by Michael Chabon
Captain Alatriste by Arturo Perez Reverte
Cornwell is GOAT historical fiction. Stonehenge is also pretty good. The warlord chronicles, even though its more fiction than history I guess, is his best series
King Solomon's Mines t b h
I read his book about Belisarius and found it really boring.
I was impressed by Wolf Hall tbqh
I've read The Winter King and it was great.
You're saying the sequels are just as good?
Sounds good to me!
I highly recommend Gates Of Fire.
