I've just finished plowing through some of Vidal's work and I found Burr and Julian to be fantastic historical fiction.

Also, I'm known to recommend Mary Renault's Alexander trilogy, particularly The Persian Boy. They're so beautiful and well-written that I feel as if a part of me died in that time period when I finished reading those books.

The Legionary series is really good ancient Roman military fiction

Both of those series are really great, but not as good as Masters of Rome.

Any good fiction about ww1 or ww2? Preferably from a british pov.

Why doesn't more historical fiction make the canon?
