A lot of DFW fanatics tried to say that it was just a joke, but DFW mentioned it in another interview insisting he was serious, and after his suicide Animorphs manuscripts were found in his house

Honestly it's unfair to judge him for it. Everyone has guilty literary pleasures

If those Animorphs executives would have just hired him he could have become the greatest Animorphs writer ever to live. What a shame.

This is just speculation, but I'm guessing he wanted to write Animorphs books that were a lot darker and a lot more introspective than the current series

These are fundamentally books for kids, and DFW doesn't strike me as a children's book kind of guy
