The issue is not identifying them and ignoring them. A large portion of our space and bump orders are taken up by this trash. I've seen many interesting threads die away at the far side of the catalog because of the same old /pol/ trash gettting posted and reacted to. Perhaps ignoring these OPs would be best, but you find the same nonsense premeating active threads of some value.

Actually I disgaree, I do find the novel post from time to time. You have to dig for them. As to why it is so shit here, well you said it yourself, the /pol/ trash is dilluting the average Veeky Forums post into nonexistence. I don't even care for patrician tier post at a constant level. Even just finding an interesting suggestion or hear what a like minded Veeky Forums poster thought of a book of interest is enough.

Every board worries about invaders. But if the board culture is strong enough the influence they have in the grand-scheme is almost nothing.

Last night I decided to dig through the archives back to 2011 when I started posting here, just to things have really gotten worse. Short answer: Things have gotten a lot worse.
Here's why:

Bad bait would get maybe 12 replies on average.

I actually came across books I hadn't heard of for years in the old threads, and anons were actually discussing them, they weren't just posts in an obscure reccs thread

Pretty self-explanatory. People put more time into replies. Even if they were trolling, the troll was better thought out.

Meme writers were talked about, but it was the origins of the Pynchon and DFW meme. People actually read and discussed the books instead of whatever ironic bantzor strings of reaction images that are predominant now.
Also interesting thing I forgot: there were loads more tripfags. We have to be the only board whose post quality has gone down with tripfags leaving.

The only plan of action is to goad the mods into actually deleting spam threads, or maybe even spam filtering things that are posted here a lot that are not lit.

There is one plan of action I recommend for everybody here:
No matter how frustrated you get with the shitposting, don't reply to it. Hide all shitpost thread, ignore all shitpost responses to your post. So many people are taking the bait to some degree, and keep these threads moving. Even if only the handful of us replying here do this, we may be able to make a dent in the issue of utter trash being bumped to the top.
Also, make more threads about non-meme books. Even if you don't think it will last, just try it more often, maybe some others will catch on. Don't just post about non-memes in the obscure reccs threads.
