Should Western knowledge be decolonized?

It's interesting how they try to use emotional pressure to silence the criticism. They claim that "this space is open", but it obviously is not. They could have asked "Well, why is it not true?" and went along with it, but they didn't, they choked the guy because he had an opinion they didn't like or they specifically chose not to hear out.

Didn't watch, I assume it's stupid. Here's my two cents though. I don't think colonization plays any role in shaping how we perceive and conduct science and also plays no role in math.

For subjects like history/anthropology, etc. perhaps you could decolonize somewhat. A lot of how that is taught is very Eurocentric, which in a way makes sense because since we are the descendants of colonial Europeans, however it would be good to either take a more neutral viewpoint or examine various different viewpoints.

We did try and are currently attempting to teach with this "decolonized" method now but it backfired. The tone of the lessons shifted from neutral to too far left and that's how you get shit like "white guilt." Obviously there is a lot of right-wing kickback and as such there is no one benefiting from this system. It just divides us. School doesn't exist to teach you morality. Teach history, keep it neutral.

Yeah, one of the major reasons why blacks are not making it is because they are decrying everything that made the white people succesful as "colionization" (whatever that is supposed to mean) and perceive people who follow these things as "race traitors" or "acting white". Here we have a young lady who wants to see the scientific method be gone and replaced by vodoo method because she feels so insulted by the fact that the scientific method was invented by whites.

Why do these people have to make everything about race? Scientific method is not white. What the fuck! It's universal. Just because whites were the first ones to stumble upon it, it doesnt mean it is "white".

They should realize that if you realize somebody is doing something better than you, than you simply copy it. Thats how the west also became succesful. A lot of things copied by the arabs, who also copied a lot of things from the indians, and so on. The chinese today basically copy everything from the west and they are quickly becoming no. 1. If you perceive it as surpression/racism/colonization/whatever to copy something that is clearly and without a doubt superior in its task, then you will never move forward.

I think you kind of skipped over the part where technology is absolutely essential for the existence of electronic devices, while on the other hand there exist many ways to produce clothing without slavery. Similarly, if you complain about poor working conditions in Asia while wearing clothes made in China, that's very much hypocritical.

It's worse than that. What user is implying is the only way your criticism of society is valid is when you live as an ermit in the woods.

Just because I benefit from society doesn't mean it's perfect and above all criticism.

The difference is whether you can reasonably expected to choose an alternative, whether you make the conscious decision to benefit from a system while criticizing it in the next breath.

I'm not implying that critizing a system you voluntarily benefit from makes your criticisms invalid, I'm merely saying it makes you a hypocrite.

No, it doesn't. Just because I'm a middle-class guy doesn't mean I'm an hypocrite if I think we don't help the poor enough.

I'm not calling them slaves, I was making an analogy to illustrate what your scenario looks like. You have to come to terms with the fact that countries like China are used for a huge part of consumer good production BECAUSE they allow poor working conditions for employees in order to cut costs and lower prices. You either promote better working standards for the Chinese and accept that they will lose jobs as they lose competitiveness, or you accept and perpetuate the status quo. A good way to affect change is to boycott products from companies that treat workers poorly. (The workers will be unemployed as a result of the change anyway.) Claiming to do one while you do the other and benefit from it makes you a hypocrite.

You're conflating what "society should do" with what "you should do". Who ought to help the poor, individuals or governments? Do you think you personally are doing enough to help the poor, to the extent that can be expected from you? If you don't, and tell others they should be inconvenienced in order to "help the poor", it makes you a hypocrite.

I think it's great to see someone wanting to hold on to their heritage and their culture.

What isn't great is suggesting that your culture's interpretation of the Universe is the only real one and all of "western science" needs to be deconstructed and replaced. If you want to bury your head into the sand and believe in black magic, so be it. But dismissing all of modern science because it is largely of western origin is negating fact simply on the basis of prejudice. This is clearly a girl who has made no effort and taken no time to understand science before making an opinion.

Were it to be proven real, science would absorb, study, cherish and advance "black magic" for centuries to come -- this is the fundamental nature of science. I think what we have here is a lass who's angry that her beliefs didn't make the cut.

"Colonization" doesn't mean anything. Boogeyman word used to stir up losers emotions. Ever hear rich merchants who benefited from more trade complaining about colonization? Its just losers whining because they were too stupid or slow to get a piece of the pie.
