Who /not stressed about finals/ here?

who /not stressed about finals/ here?

Finals aren't anything to worry about as long as you participated in class throughout the semester and actually made an effort to learn the material well.

Everyone is doing all this last minute cramming and all these crazy study sessions and it makes me feel lazy, but I honestly don't or have never felt the need to go crazy with studying before finals. No more than usual

>tfw took only classes without finals

wtf. what kind of joke uni do you go to

>studied 2 hours every single day, from the start of the summer to my last exam
>breeze through everything
>day after my last final, get the reading list for next year
Feels good being a giant loser

its called grad school

:)

>get out of final because i have an A on the condition that I get a minimum grade on the last assignment
>it's a real hard assignment that will probably take me longer than studying would have

Your grad school has P.E. requirements?

How about moderate stress?

I do spend lots of time reviewing before finals, but it's not too bad. Usually just about 8-10 hours per class spread over 1-2 days.

Except Ochem. I have been doing 2-4 hours a day, 4-5x a week, and I STILL have 8-10 hours of stuff to do tomorrow after doing about 7 hours today. jesus christ

you're lowkey a winner tho

>P.E.
? what's this

Also chem here and I find it maybe a little to much if you've been to every lecture and understood the material from them.

Things work differently in different countries but I never really had to stress much as long as I left classes, having understood what I was taught, I spend around 3-4h per class per week and it's mostly solving exercises and older exam papers. It hasn't failed me yet.

That's how I am with my math classes. I spend maybe 3-6 hours a week on math and get As

but this Ochem class is killing me. I cruise on about 2 hours a day, and turn it up to 6-8 hours a day around exams, and I STILL am getting like 40-50% averages. The class average is like 35%. I dont know why I am so bad at it

From experience Ochem 202 has been the hardest class fro me to get a good grade, even thought it shouldn't have been. Having a good book helps, having a predictable prof and access to past papers helps most. Just go and always check on your mistakes to see how your professor grades.

Penis Einstellung

My final is project based

literally nothing to study for

>don't participate in class at all
>don't even look at most of the course material
>study/learn the material for the first time for two days per class before exam
>ace exam
>feel good knowing that i'm not a brainlet
>then remember that non-brainlets would actually participate in class and learn the material before two days before the exam

I've been doing this for years now and every time after I say "next semester, I'm actually going to study and learn the material during the semester and not two days before the exam because the exams will be harder next semester" and then I never do it. I wish I had the willpower for it. One year I'm going to completely shit the bed and fail everything but that fear doesn't motivate me enough to study throughout the semester.

C's get degrees. Who gives a fuck.
Half this shit you're never going to see again anyway.

You've never took real analysis courses I see.

C's don't get you into grad school

Ayy lmao got real anal final in a few days.

I really hate the fact that fucking everybody told me that grades in uni don't matter. Then I start lurking Veeky Forums and ask my advisor and fuck me do they matter.

How fucked am I if I don't have a perfect GPA for the first two years? (I'm in Yurop, but I have the equivalent of 3.5/3.6)

>grades in uni don't matter
t. second and third-class degree holders

Your first year grades almost certainly won't be part of your degree grading. Your second year results might be, but you don't need a perfect GPA for a 1:1. You're not fucked at all.

you're obviously not challenging yourself hard enough.

Grad student here. It depends entirely on what program you're trying to enter (at least in the USA). For some, the admissions committee will focus more on your so-called "major GPA", so your general course GPA doesn't matter as much. You usually also have a field in your application where you can explain yourself, or at least I did.

Mate wtf? I studied a max of 2 hours for my chem exam and got an 89 post curve, chem was also my worst class this semester next to anthrop

If I fucked up earlier in my schooling but have had good semester GPAs the last couple years will they look into that?

I honestly feel exactly the same way. Talking with people on the internet about grad school for physics has me stressed because they all say they got 4.0s in their regular gpa (non major gpa) and I'm wondering how. I'm going to get two bs this semester for classes that are nonmajors but for w/e reason I still think it will hurt me.

So if I make it to applying to grad school could I explain that I didn't do as well in these non-major courses because I didn't put as much effort into them as my major courses?

>grad school
Obviously.. But that's only 10% of the student body.

Meanwhile, 90% of the remaining student body stresses over finals, so 81% of students are stressing for no reason.

I already have a job lined up my gpa means dick.

You aren't anything but a soo-to-be winner, just let yourself into some distractions tho, to relieve some stress.

The rewards are you'll feel more secure and happier about youself. In long term means, you'll stop having negative thoughs, like thinking you're loser when you clearly aren't one.

Don't let your social circle shape you when you have the potential to exell by yourself, it's just that when people sees the brightness in you they try to drag you down with their missery. Do sports, have a hobby and get some friends (quality and human friends) to develop your confidence. There's good people awaiting you, but nothing comes easy in life, specially the high rewarding things, so get out of your comfort zone and start doing your life, fucking spoiled and ungrateful manchild.

You're free to put whatever you want in your statement of purpose. There may be better places on the application depending on the school.

A great thing to do would be to have one of your letters talk about this. If you have a prof that knows you well, maybe someone you've done research with, that can go a very long way. Just mention to your letter writer that you're worried about that and ask if they would be able to say something that would explain some of the low grades.

I'm not in physics but I don't think you need a 4.0 even for most top programs. Good letters and good statement. (And a decent GRE.)

That's quite the deduction you made

Refute it

No, it's fine. Just wanted to point out that what you posted is boring as shit. Literally everyone knows that.

t. business major

I stress for finals a lot and you can probably guess why. Most of it is because I excel at cramming, and am able to pull off As in most classes by studying 2 - 3 days for 12 hours/day before a final. I have never needed to keep up with my coursework because my final grades reinforce my shitty work ethic. Do I want to do coursework every day? Absolutely. I just never do it.

Also, I know my work ethic is shitty. I've known for years now that cramming is a terrible approach to any aspect of responsibility. I just do it. It affects me negatively, and the enormity of self-loathing that occurs during the exam period is really depressing. But every time I try to create a routine, I just fall back into my shitty habits and end up being behind on everything.

If you're still reading this, any tips that helped you with your work habits would be appreciated. Pretty sure I failed my first class as of this mornings exam, so it's time for a reevaluation at my shitty work ethic.

TL;DR: I cram because I'm good at it. I hate myself for it despite knowing it's entirely within my ability to stop doing it.

I'm doing aero engineering at a pretty good university.

Sympathise with you mate. I don't get stressed when I cram though, I'm always pretty chill.

I wish I was any good at cramming but I'm retarded. After maybe 20min tops of reading I start mentally thinking about how I'm only studying so that I can finish and go waste time doing shit like browsing here.
Then I start paying less attention and not grasping what I read at all, just trying to do enough that I feel okay with stopping.
I don't think I'll ever have the motivation some people have, rolled low willpower

>tfw intelligent enough to ace exams without studying the material or attending lectures
Get on my level.

>People who scramble down obscenely detailed notes so they can cram later
I'm a huge advocate of just enjoying lectures. If you like what you're studying you won't lose your attention. I don't take many notes in class so I enjoy the lectures thouroughly and generally do fine on tests.

I agree with this post. It should be mandatory for profs to have lecture formatted to PP presentations (or something where the examinable material can be accessed through an online coursework program). I enjoy taking notes in class to reinforce my understanding, but I don't believe taking notes should be required in lecture. School is about learning, so let the students learn in class and study freely on their own time.

Great. Let's test this claim.

How can I compute the permanent of a general integer matrix in a polynomial number of steps? Let's say that you have access to a SAT oracle.

I used to do this all the time and I finally broke it so I might have some tips for you.

I'm studying computer engineering and freshman year I would do exactly what you said, cram all the time before tests and not study along the way. I was always really interested in engineering so that's why I chose it but I knew I wasn't really deeply learning the material by cramming so I had to do something.

My biggest tip is go to the library on your campus to study. Don't go to a cubicle somewhere, sit at one of the tables out in the open. You won't be able to get off track as easy because everyone will see you browsing Veeky Forums or watching porn or whatever you normally do so it's way easier to sit down and do your work and not get distracted by random articles/video's ect... its also dead quiet in there which makes it a lot easier to think critically.

The library is literally the only place on campus I can study, if I go anywhere else I can maybe get stuff done but it will be 1/10th of what I can get done in the library.

Also, you probably got into science because you thought it was cool and interesting so just think about that when you're deciding if you want to study or not. When I feel like not studying I remember why I started doing this in the first place and think about all the things I could potentially accomplish if I do really good and that always motivates me to work. It is important that you actually like the field you are studying though and not just doing it for money. If you don't think what you are studying is interesting you will not be able to get to the top of your field.

1. go to the library and study no excuses
2. If you feel lazy think about what motivates you and use that as energy (being an astronaut, inventing some new crazy thing, doing novel research etc...)

>Do I want to do coursework every day? Absolutely. I just never do it.
No you don't. People don't just "never do" things they want to do. Nobody has the problem of not being able to force themselves to shitpost, for example. Maybe you feel like _should_ do it but that's very different.

You're evidently not in classes you like, because if you liked them you wouldn't avoid them until basically held at gunpoint. The ideal solution would be to either find something you actually want to study so studying is less hard.

If you don't want to study anything and just want a job out of uni, then what the other user said is probably best; remove the possibility of getting distracted. If you need to study thermodynamics, take your thermo textbook and some paper to a table in the library. Nothing else, and certainly nothing electronic (this especially includes your phone). If you can't do anything else but study you'll probably do it. It's less boring than sitting there like a rock.

the truth is boring and everyone knows it. ok.

sick thread then.

>I have a 3.5/3.6
>"OH WOE IS ME LIFE IS OVER"

you're pretty fucked desu if you want a good job. It might be different in europe, but the competition in the US is absurd. If you aren't literally perfect in every way, then the position is going to go to someone who is.

Even though the admission requirements don't state that you need a 4.0, you literally need one because if you don't then they have no reason to pick you over the guy with a 4.0.

False. Research, work experience, and recommendations may easily make up for a few Bs.

Ah then yes

I'm not stressed anymore because I've already failed one class.

feels bad man

I don't miss this shit in the slightest. I love this time of year now because I just work a normal job instead of loathing upcoming exams. Granted there was some fun in trying to figure out how I could sneak answers into a class for certain finals.

There is a huge supply people with 4.0s that also have all of those things. Don't kid yourself.

>two essays and a final project
I can bullshit through the tests EZ, why are they doing this to me ;_;
>inb4 lolmanities

Good post, I've made tremendous progress in math since I started doing my coursework in the math center (basically like the library but even quieter)

There are strategies to all this stuff for those who aren't naturally inclined. I used to do my homework while laying in bed and in hindsight it was very retarded of me.

Good thing more than half of those people have no actual problem solving skills and can't do much other than masterful regurgitation.

That's what essays and interviews are for, to weed out the autistic robots.

>Finals aren't anything to worry about as long as you participated in class throughout the semester and actually made an effort to learn the material well.
It's extremely surprising how accurate this is.

Organic chem != general pre med weed out chemistry

This. I hardly study for finals at all, and I almost always do very well. I go to class every day and do all the homework and take good notes. If you do that, being tested on the material shouldn't worry you at all.

Thats a nice fantasy. I wish it were true too, but it isn't.

>There is a huge supply people with 4.0s that also have all of those things.

no there isn't. only ~38% in the US have a degree of ANY KIND. this includes 2 year technical degrees and fly-by-night degree mill bullshit.

just having a legit 4 year undergraduate degree in STEM puts you in the top 10% of the country. now go look at what GPA averages are for those fields, now go look at the hiring rates for those fields. there absolutely is not a "huge supply" of people with 4.0's.

there is relative to any decent position

Stressing out over minor details is connected to a natural instinct for survival. One of those small details may have been the one that ends up biting you in the ass. Not saying it's the best survival technique, as stress leads to less ability to reason and make sound judgements, but it is still a natural animal instinct to ensure you think about things you may have neglected.

>decent position
what do you consider a decent position?

same

t. physics

>mfw grad school
>mfw only two finals
>mfw one of them is take-home

>0ne year I'm going to completely shit the bed and fail everything

you won't fail, but when you have to do solo projects/labs that are worth a huge chunk of your grade you are going to take a digger by trying to slap shit together at the last minute.

hope you are studying something without a lot of application.

who /bbc/ here?

Are you me.

t. math

You dont have a month break coming up though.

>watching HxH right now
>see this post
what did he mean by this

>do extremely well as a freshmen, sophomore, junior (3.5 GPA 3 semesters in a row)
>now I slack off as graduation nears and my GPA will still be above 3.0
>spend most classes on phone, doing minimum amount of work to learn
>still do better than half the class on tests

Is gradschool easier overall?

>failed pre-cal can freshman year

>aced calc 1 thru diffyQ

Pre-calc isn't even required for my major

If grad schools care, Why should they?

>cuz anyone taking precalc in college shouldn't be even be provided with basic human rights
Sure, but I aced all subsequent math courses.

I have three years of research experience and a 4.0 major GPA

Should i fail More classes to be more consistent?

Do whatever you want. I'd try applying to NASA.

Im only in Physics 101 and Calc 2 but I feel like I have to study this time in order to maintain my 4.0. This is the first time I am legitimately stressed about my final and am concerned that I wont get As.

I have a 90% in Physics and a 93.5% in calc. I'm so borderline that it's terrifying. Anything less than an A on my finals and I officially lose my 4.0.

Definitely stressing..

Also, am I brainlet if I don't understand how to do the ODE for Simple Harmonic Oscillators?

Don't worry about it. Twenty years from now, people won't give a shit about your GPA.

Just got trucked by a retardedly difficult calc final, feels bad man

Grad schools only give a shit about your last two years and obviously research

wait till you have to do your masters thesis, you will get a mental breakdown/depression.

t. you

I also do this
