Not an actal problem

k

>we stop
What do you mean by "we", Peasant?

the diagonals of that trapezoid are actually 5.385164807, not 8

The common core doesn't provide any of these problems people get bent out of shape about.

These are literally just problems written by shitty teachers.

The common core just provides a basic syllabus of topics to be covered, it doesn't mandate that teachers use specific test questions. Why is everyone so retarded

Donald J. Trump.

Right-wing propaganda

Because they hear it's big government getting into education and will literally latch onto any claims that it's bad. Nobody does their own research.

I remember hearing people complain about common core math, so I went and saw what it was, and realized they had pretty reasonable expectations of math literacy.

You got your directions backwards

so if the triangles stand out on both sides eqally, then we can conclude that the diagonal side is sqrt(5^2+2^2) and therefore cant be 8

nigger who made this problem should be gassed

>When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth

No one ever said that the geometry had to be Euclidean.
In fact any first-year physics undergraduate (or well-read high-school student) will be able to tell you that it is incorrect to model reality using Euclidean geometry.

Most of the people I've seen ranting about this are entitled soccer moms who don't have much of anything better to do between draining their hard working husband's bank account so they try to help their kids with their homework only to find that things are a little tiny bit different and now the one job they had in a long time, they can't do and instead of brushing up on how to do it they feel entitled to rant on facebook with other soccer moms about how the (((evil government))) is (((brainwashing))) their defenseless kids with (((new new math)))

Yeah right, but the area of trapezoid is based on Euclidean Geometry.

The figure cannot be based on Euclidean geometry because that would lead to a contradiction, see

Patience..

You're assuming those are right triangles, and that the dotted line is necessarily perpendicular to the base.

Nothing in that image makes this necessary. You're assuming things now.

70 area units obviously

So I hope they teach how to find the area of a Trapezoid outside Euclidean Geometry since A = (b + B)*h/2 uses the ideal of area of a triangle in Euclidean Geometry, which is not the same for nonEuclid Geometry.

would be pretty easy if you had done problem 5 correctly, brainlet

>problem 5
...which would have been easy if you had done problem 4 correctly

...

op's a retard

cosine the 8,5 triangle. multiply that shit by 2. that's the area of both right triangles.

5x12 is the area of the square in the middle.

add them both together.

basically if common core is teaching you how to think logically and not throw a tantrum when presented with a mildly difficult problem (games that don't hold your hand), i'm all for it.

this program is going to produce fucking awesome mathematicians and engineers who don't afraid of anything.

go away, nigger

>Trigonometric functions have a wide range of uses including computing unknown lengths and angles in triangles (often right triangles).

>Trigonometric functions have a wide range of uses including computing unknown lengths and angles in triangles (often right triangles).

stop what? whats wrong with this?

that's correct except it's sine not cosine.

cosine is if you have hypotenuse and the short one

96whatever^2

Wow you guys are all top tier autistics.
Bitching about how incorrect the measurements of the figure are rather than just solving the problem for what it is, a high school tier problem.
Complete hardware abstraction layer failure, noice.
