Math, Physics, Chemistry.
What's the easiest to get a PhD in?

I mean, math is probably a lot less competitive than Chem and Physics, since I assume less people want to major in it. Anyone want to confirm?

Physics is just applied mathematics, chemistry is just applied physics

I hope this is true.

Math has more than twice as many graduates as physics. Same story with chem.

Yeah I just looked it up, in terms of popularity:

Math>Chem>physics

Interesting.

For a smart person probably physics.

why would physics be easier than chemistry?

It really depends on your area of research.
Grad school is not about classes or grades, it is about doing research.
This means that you choose your own way.

How does he breathe through those microscopic airholes?

XKCD is just applied memes

Currently doing PhD in chemistry, it's a really easy path I found

Dads $$$$$$$. Judging by Veeky Forums approach to science, plainly obvious.

what school/research area

He's more into electrocuting them though.

>be fundamentalist
>apply armchair understanding of Pavlov to human sexuality
>fail to produce desired outcomes
>keep going for decades with little/no change

That is surprising.
My impression is that it is easier getting a relevant job with a PhD in Physics than the other two.

We have had job postings for a while and too few interested. And salary isn't too shabby either.

t. Physicist

Whats your research in?

I did superconducting electronics, part of solid state physics.

For career safety as in an escape route to industry I believe solid state physics is the best way. Lots of interesting things (though not in superconductivity at the moment) in nano tech, 2D structures and opto-electronics.

I left the field a few years ago, now I am a patent attorney. It is surprising how much I learned from research that comes in handy in my present work. A lot of my colleagues have a a PhD and in some countries, like Germany, people expect a patent attorney to have a a PhD.

im also doing a chem PhD.

what field? i am not finding it easy at all so far. I'm doing good work, but I am incredibly stressed out and i think Im developing a drinking problem.

That's comforting to hear. I'm trying to go for a PhD in optoelectronics, what do you think of this guy's work?
