Any Med students who can explain this shit?

I recently had a seizure and my neurologist gave me an MRI and EEG. He said that everything came back normal but when I read the report it said that "there is prominence of parietal lobe sulci with widening with respect to patient's young age, suggesting mild peripheral cerebral volume loss. The finding is non-specific". Should I be worried about this as a 21 year old? The rest of the report found that everything else is normal.

pic related triggers me hard, basically a surefire way to get some proteopathic disease.

>when I read the report

Patients shouldn't read their own charts and "reports." It causes all manner of problems; this thread is evidence of that.

But, it depends...

Yea maybe im just paranoid...the whole volume loss bit just freaked the fuck outta me

depends on what?

Diagnosis and prognosis: Brainlet.

Sorry...have no medical experience mane...was just concerned

Neither me, it was a joke. Seriously, hope it all turns out well. I would be scared to get an MRI done myself. I don't even want to know what degeneracy is going on in the old cranium.

LOL u hav brein damage LOL ur literali retard moran

Joke went right over my head lol. I feel you tho...the neurologist just seemed really calm and said there was nothing wrong with me and that the report is normal...but that one single line just made me terrified. I mean just the suggestion of brain volume loss is just a little unnerving.

...

>mild peripheral cerebral volume loss

It means you're posting on Veeky Forums too much

Lel. I knew this site would fuck me up one day

In all seriousness, the key word is mild and nothing there is really conclusive of a specific major disorder. There's a variety of reasons why you had a seizure and if you don't have any previous history of such problems then the chances are slim that this will drastically affect you. The EEG would've been a dead giveaway for epilepsy had that been the cause so don't worry so much man.

Are you on birth-control or anti-depressants?

Thanks for the helpful response man. Guess I was just freaking out over nothing but is cerebral volume loss that normal of a thing at 21? Even mild? Like this is probably a stupid question but does cerebral peripheral volume fluctuate or something?

Nah neither of those...took xanax for a while (.5-1mg a day) but stopped taking it after my prescription ended about a month before the seizure . Would that have caused the volume loss?

usually skipped a few days in between as well. Never took it more than 3 time a week but is that still enough to fuck up your brain volume?

Don't take any psych meds or hormones. (unless you have an obvious deficiency)
Birth control causes frontal lobe damage. Not sure what xanax does.

Too much booze probably

Do you sleep face-down or with the covers over your head by any chance?

volume doesn't matter its surface area and neuron #

Sometimes?

Nah Man maybe like twice a month...heard the same thing happened to Truman Capote before he died from alcoholism...dude's brain shrunk in half

That's reassuring...hopefully the neurologist was right.I remember him saying something along those lines too

For sure mane....never had a hormone problem or anything so probably won't need to. Maybe the doctor's right tho...I'm just fretting over nothing. Thanks for the advice tho

iirc Einstein had a small as brain that just had extremely high neuron density and a shitton more folds than the normal brain (Giving dramatically increased surface area)

Maybe I'm the next Einstein lol...or I just have a tiny head....probably the latter

You should always read your report. And ask detailed questions, he works for you.

I called him up and asked him about the whole volume parietal lobe thing and he said it's normal as you age. So Idk. Either he's really incompetent or im really paranoid

Youd be surprised the older specialists get the more complacent they get in their diagnosis. They literally have gotten sock of winning and think everything they do is right, this is a human flaw though not a dr thing. He very well could be brilliant in his field, judge by his demeanor and the way he tells you too calm down its nothing.

True...it was a father and son that both work in the same clinic. Dad was pretty much exactly like you described but the son was like in his early 30's, went to Washington University in St. Louis med school etc etc and he said the same thing. Pretty good resume, but yea maybe I'll get another opinion too

It means you're brain damaged.

You have 5 years to live.

Well it was bound to happen sometime

It's nothing.

More importantly, what were you doing when you got the seizure, what meds are you in, were you taking any drugs, does your family has history of patients with seizures? What exactly happened, what is this you consider a seizure? How much did it last?

Were you even asked any of these questions?

And for your information, the report says you're dumb, nothing more, but that's a pretty irrelevant finding though, there's probably a machine that analyzes all the shit.

Patients should be educated and they do have the right to read the thing, it's legally theirs but hospitals often forbid them from doing so.

However they end up worrying at anything they don't understand like OP and some may be even asshole enough to look for pitiful mistakes and sue the doctors. It's inconvenient, but i think they should always have the right to do it.

Shit is measured in percentiles. Hell you're worrying about something like "your middle finger is shorter than the 45% of the population". "Volume loss" doesn't imply you have lost anything, just that you're different. As i said, it's probably a machine doing the diagnosis, no one would be autistic enough to stop in that fucking little irrelevant detail.

The next time you visit a doctor, make sure he's a psychiatrist.

DUmb enough to get a 4.48 in high school, get a 2250 on my SAT and attend Berkeley and graduating this year with a 3.8 in Mechanical Engineering, but yea that was probably just sheer luck you're right. Wasn't doing much at the time... of the seziure... just had the stomach flu for a few days before...doctor said my sodium levels were dangerously low so it might have been Idiopathic

Does weed count? Smoked a few bowls the day before to counteract the stomach flu...maybe that caused it

Yea I'm definitely on the spectrum....I've seen a psychiatrist....basically just gave me xanax to deal with my social spaghetti spillin' it worked but didn't wanna over do it

Yea no history of family seizures. Lasted about a minute...Asked my gf if she wanted some coffee in the morning and then fell over hit my head on the stove and dislocated my shoulder. She found me on the floor and apparently I was shaking so she called 911 and said it was a seizure and I remember waking up in the ambulance just like wtf?

>4.48
>2250
>3.8
>American grading

The hell is stomach flu? Since your sodium levels were low it must have been that. Weed fucks people up as well, and since now you have a history of seizures you should try to cut it down or more will come along the road.

There you go, it's nothing. Next.

Sorry about the passive aggressive tone I tool here...just don't like it when people call me dumb on internet I suppose. But who knows...maybe I am

*took
fuck this keppra they gave me is really fucking with my typing capabilities

>engineer gets defensive and starts rattling off his brainlet stats
>he didn't ace the SAT
>he didn't get a perfect GPA in a meme grading system designed to give you perfect points for subpar performance in a meme major
kek

Lel. Basically just ate some taco bell and threw up for about three days straight. Nothing wrong with American grading mane...where you from? But yea the weed probably ain't helping you're right about that

Yea sorry mane...fucked up and only took that shit once to save money. But yea I'm probably not as smart as most of the savants on this board

Where'd you go to college btw? Your posts seem rather resentful.

You have stage IV pancreatic cancer. I have it too.

The hypochondriac in me agrees with you completely

The note suggest a case of cerebral atrophy but that is probably not the case, even if it is there should be no problems unless the atrophy becomes worse.

Prions be tasty, yo.

Fuck that sounds kinda bad...but everyone is giving me different opinions so don't really know who to listen to. Two neurologist looked at the MRI...first one said it was nothing and the second one said the same. But maybe they're just tryna not freak me out idk

Also Is atrophy reversible? The report says one thing and the actual neurologist said that the report was just a mistake on the part of the doctor who wrote the report so idk l...

*idk at this point

Also thanks for all the replies...nice to some other opinions on this shit...otherwise I'd still be spazzing the fuck out over that single sentence

*nice to have some other opinions
Damn phone fucking up my sentences

False and outdated, brain tissue that was stolen from his grave showed a superabundance of glial cells, ogliodendrocytes, etc. In other words, he had a better CNS support system than the average person does.

have you done drugs, ever had a stroke, or a head injury? either way you are probably a brainlet. I recommend noopept to try to grow it back.

Don't know about the brainlet thing...function pretty normally. Get decent grades in stem major. Just go into IUChicago which I'm pretty excitetd about. But I'll try it out I suppose. Like I said probably not as smart as you guys I suppose but wouldn't say "brainlet" especially since the three neurologist I've seen now say that it's not really a thing to be concerned about. Besides the month long Xanax script and occasional weed and booze not much drugs

*U Chicago

No stroke or head injury either...Jesus guess everyone gets called dumb or a brainlet here huh?

Yep...you're on Veeky Forums buddy...home of the insecure. Basically any dude with no knowledge of brain chemistry will just just call you dumb. I'm studying to be a neurologist student right now in my second year at med school and I can tell you... you're fine. The whole brainlet/dumb thing is pretty much just people baiting you

Oh and FYI don't listen to the dude telling you to go on noopept. As a med student I'm telling you that it's just placebo designed for morons like him

Please just listen to your neurologist...if you've gotten three opinions already from licensed professionals posting your results on Veeky Forums is just gonna have people start spouting this brainlet meme thing tryna bait you into thinking you're and idiot or some shit...pretty sure most of em probably just couldn't get into med school and just need someone to troll

*an

do you spend most of your time in front of a computer screen under artificial lighting?

if so your brain is atrophying due to the destruction of dopamine and melatonin by the blue spectrum of this lighting ..

ditch the indoors for the outdoors and maybe you'll reverse some of that loss. consider this your last warning because soon you will have lost the capacity to adjust sufficiently and the losses will increase and endure affecting the rest of your now unenviable and dull witted existence

I suppose I stay in front of a computer screen for more than I should. Well time to get a social life I suppose

>unenviable and dullwitted existence
Projecting much?

Could it already be too late for me?

>hit my head on the stove
Traumatic brain injury leads to volume loss. It says MILD, just stop having seizures and hitting your head on things and you'll be fine!

>Patients shouldn't read their own charts and "reports."
what, maybe if you can go to the best hospitals and doctors you dont, but when my grandpa was in the hospital i read everything they got on him every time I visited, and I caught 2 errors the nurses made in his stay there, when I brought it to the attention of his doctor he even mentioned there could have been serious complications if it wasn't corrected.

well your brain is OK..

Nigga why are you so paranoid? I don't understand. 2 Neurologists told you you're fine. You think they didn't see that line? You're also in a thread with just regular Joe's telling you you're fucked up.

Stop being so paranoid. It's useless in this case and it's just making you feel bad.

Also have you called your neurologist and asked what it means? Why not do that if you haven't?

>inb4 he tells you it makes you more susceptible to paranoia

>never take any hormones

>implying test and other anabolics have shown to change the brain in adult males

you can fuck off now

Agree with you. I did call him and he said not to worry that I'm just freaking myself out over a normal result basically what everyone in this thread has been telling me. Just getting paranoid over nothing pretty much you're right

>"this finding is non-specific"

means it doesnt really mean anything.

stop doing drugs why are you having new onset seizures at 21

So why don't [You] call the neurologist and ask him?

Even if that's true wasting all that potential in mechanical engineering makes you a grade-4.whatever fuckhead

For how long did you take xanax?

A month on and off. About .5 mg a day 2-3 times a week. Seizure happened like a month and a half afterwards tho so idk

You had a seizure OP, if there was nothing wrong, you would not have a seizure. The doctor and anyone else telling you otherwise is wrong. Enjoy the progression though.

Wow, looks like she'd really like a piece of his mind!

You can say that again!
It's certainly more than she can chew!

they are trained to be as dishonest as possible to to you user; they are like politicians. i told you the truth you wanted to hear
