because its near on pointless, whereas science, a subject that obv greatly advances humanity, is seen as boring. Go figure

Who says they dont?

Intellagence people don't watch TV.

Repetitive and the outcome has no effect on anything.

Sports are fun to play due to the mix of exercise and social features.

I love watching ladies tennis.

You aren't smart

>Repetitive and the outcome has no effect on anything

Just like shitposting on Veeky Forums!

How is watching sports different than reading fiction or watching a movie?

bc they were bullied nerds in highschool

I watch WWE and I'm into Pro Wrestling.

I like watching curling.

I like Golf

We're talking sports, not fake TV drama shows

M.Sc. Statistics here. Director of analytics for a telecom firm. I love hockey and football.

The thing about your suggestion is that it only takes one counterexample to disprove.

Its watching apes do physical activity and being impressed by it constantly, only an imbecile would watch sports, however it is understandable if intelligent people like to play sports since our ape brains love physical activity.

I cant comprehend why most of my gender fellates football or basketball players, its very weird.

footie is pretty good, playing and watching

its a common misconception as the loudest sports fans arent necessarily the smartest

>tfw to smart too enjoy sporst

>M.Sc. in statistics
>overlooks the fact that intelligent people are statistically less likely to watch sports

But you're not intelligent

Post ONE study

my diary desu

You're a woman? That makes sense for why a woman would watch men play sports because it's like softcore porn.

American football is a top tier turn based strategy game and if you don't recogize that you're literally a brainlet

you are actually wrong.

his statement generalised (means all or almost all).
I wouldn't expect anything else from a dirty statistician.

Women's tennis is objectively the sport of patricians.
>Matches aren't 5 hours long like in men's
>Pretty girls
>There are more than 4 relevant players

Who /pliskova/ here?

The games lack any element of thinking. It is a passive activity that most of the time is predictable (bad team vs good team).

That is why I do not watch very many sports. I think your statement is completely wrong though. I know lots of educated people that enjoy sports.

Not the same user, but just wanted to let you know that your statement reveals how much of a brainlet you are.

Because intelligent people are much more aware that you're very unlikely to win by betting on sports.

But you don't think I'm wrong?

>it is ultimately meaningless escapism in a world filled with meaningless escapism, so if you are going to waste your time might as well waste it on something else
>watching the main american sports like NFL and NBA is to indirectly support women beaters and gang members
>the whole industry is purely for money and not for any values that benefit society

Fitness is pointless and time is relative, we have already replaced our organic bodies with superior artificial robotics ones. We just haven't got their yet.

>we have already
>We just haven't got their yet

But I love them and I'm more intelligent than you

i do

>Why don't intelligent people watch sports?

They already know the outcome :^)

Seriously though its just easier to read about it in the paper or something.

>I cant comprehend why most of my gender fellates football or basketball players, its very weird.

Phrasing.

Used to be, most nigger football players are too dumb for strategic plays.

Only le nurd fucking love science faggots and pseudo-intelectuals don't watch sports. Most of my professors watch at least two sports and love to talk about it.

Because they're intelligent.

We statisticians are a grimy lot... What with our addressing of real-world problems instead of worrying about writing a paper about some nonsense about algebraic topologies. What pigs we are.

That said, the expression "don't watch" contains a NOT statement, suggesting to me that I've counterexample would be sufficient to reject the null.

Source? Send me the ArXiv link and I'll read it tonight instead of watching old MXC videos on YouTube as I had planned.

a lot of wallstreet quants are obsessed with sports

confirmed. I watch TV less than 20 hours in the last 6 years.
I like watching sports too, not the kind of dumb ones that 22 people chase after a tiny ball.

Do they actually watch them recreationally though? I have interest in the NFL from a stats point of view and I understand the intricacies of the positions and strategy from playing football growing up but I actually find sitting down and watching 3 hours of it to be painful.

yes, they enjoy observing and learning about the framework regarding skills that individual players have and how they play into the bigger picture, there's enjoyment in the memorization and prediction aspects- just like some people enjoy doing math for hours on end while other people can't stand to look at math problems. Watch moneyball. Also I'm sure a lot of people watch it recreationaly because theyre raised in households where sports are deeply valued- you spend time with your senpai being passionate and cheering on your team and that leaves a lasting impression.

because its a waste of brain space and time. There are only so many hours in the day and sports don't make the cut as one of the things worth giving a shit about.

My lack of giving a shit about sports does cause me to need to be more creative for small talk subjects since pretty much everyone auto defaults to filling empty conversation space with meaningless sports gibberish.

the most intelligent sport is indy car racing. massive amount of calculation for grip, calibrating the vehicle to its best condition.

TURN LEFT DALE

1. they think they're not supposed to like it because of who and what they are
2. they spend their time on less physical things so they don't get the vicarious physical enjoyment that other people get from sports

My boss is a genius and he loves talking about sports...

I don't believe intelligent people don't watch sports.

Intelligent people likely don't care to get invested in something that is horribly boring to begin with because of societal expectations.

I highly doubt that there's a human being out there that saw some dudes throwing a football around on TV and thought "WOW, HOW EXCITING"

I don't believe there's anyone out there that is really above the enjoyment of football even though I don't watch it myself.

Because they know that doing sport yourself is more fun and healthier than merely watching it.

M-Mr. Mathews?

>My boss is a genius
>he loves talking about sports

Pick one

>I have a job
>I don't have a job
guess which one you picked LOL

guys are you to intelligent to lift?

When I want to exercise my body, I do manual labor that creates something instead of hitting the gym where my hard work is pissed away twice. Once by the fact I'm not doing anything while in the gym and again by the fact I had to work to make the money to spend on the gym. The latter drains your resources directly while the former builds lasting things.

>guys are you to intelligent to lift?

I enjoy weight training and spelling the word "too" properly.

he looks microcephalic, lol.

TOo much GH made his face gorillalike

no

found the canadian

it's kinda boring.
I'd rather play.
Getting into fantasy football stats isn't too bad tho.

>because its a waste of brain space and time

but you're posting on Veeky Forums in a relatively pointless thread. not sure you're in a position to say what is and isn't a waste of time

Not true.
I would totally watch that girl doing her sporting activities.

>tfw too intelligent to be smart

My hypothesis is sports are too primitive for the intelligent. Not much brain stimulation is in sports if you are informed about space/time and human psychology/behavior. It could seem rather perpetual.

I find sports to be fun when I'm with friends and family. Doesn't matter the sport, it's just a deep human interaction that sits well with me.

He is in a position to say, he does what he thinks is valuable to do

I don't watch sport, I do sport. Mostly biking, lifting, and climbing.

>That said, the expression "don't watch" contains a NOT statement, suggesting to me that I've counterexample would be sufficient to reject the null.

I agree that it strongly implies it but doesn't mean it's meant that way.

also as a statistician you should know that phrases claims can be interpreted in different ways without neither being wrong or right.

why don't intelligent people shitpost on Veeky Forums

oh, we watch sports.
in fact, I'm watching some sports right now.

im not either and i dont really watch them. i watch maybe a couple games a year with my grandpa. i just find video games way more fun as standard entertainment desu, i prefer active engagement.

youtube.com/watch?v=MusyO7J2inM

You mean Le Mans 24 hours

>spelling the word "too" properly.
baited

>My hypothesis is sports are too primitive for the intelligent

That's the appeal for me though. I don't watch TV etc. but watching hockey or football is really exciting for me. Every game is like a little war and both teams fight to win.
Not everything I have to do has to be on a high intellectual level, I really enjoy lifting too and would recommend it to everyone

at least here I get to articulate my opinions and understanding of complex (usually) subjects and engage with other individuals on topics I find interesting.

Beats passive viewing of sports contests or pointless discussion of the same.

They're boring as hell to watch on TV and there are about a million commercials so the games take forever. I guess watching with other people makes it a little better, but still extremely boring. Especially football.

I seriously don't understand how football is exciting to anyone - hardly anybody actually knows more than two or three of the positions or half the rules and there's about ten minutes play for every hour of commercials. Hardly anyone even plays real football in America compared to all the fatfucks who watch it all weekend.

why are you so insecure that you constantly need affirmation that you're usefull?

they do...I was watching this in a stadium with thousands of them.

I watch shooting, archery and darts

And I'm one of the few people that have had a real IQ (none of that online shit).

>why are you so insecure that you constantly need affirmation that you're usefull?

its also fun to laugh at the morons on Veeky Forums so there is that too... Nothing brings a smile to my face like crushing the soul of a theist after a long day at the office.

I'm a PhD student and I watch cycling. That's it though. And only the Tour de France, really.

This has to be bait. I almost fell for it too

Veeky Forums told me any idiot can get a PhD so that doesn't matter

Plenty of intelligent people do. Especially more subtle and complicated sports. Usually it's because that's what they grew up with, it's a part of their culture and personality. Though often nerdy kinds of people don't have time or a pushed away from sports. Some might not see a point. Personally my country is really into sports, even more than playing it they're into watching it. I never watch sports, it's too boring and I can never ascribe to the vibe of supporting a team and getting into it in that way, or into anything in that way. However I like playing them as it's infinitely more engaging and enjoyable.

>implying fitness isn't integral in a healthy and intelligent mind and well-developed overall body

...

> (OP)

>And I'm one of the few people that have had a real IQ (none of that online shit).

>that have had a real IQ
>cannot even finish the sentence

So I guess your test was not in the triple digits?

> Disputes what "don't" means.
> Suggests I consider alternate facts.

Trump voter detected.

Why do people who are obsessed with appearing intelligent to their peers so loudly decry sports?

mainly because it is a waste of time, there is always something to learn

>MS and not PhD
>Analytics and not data science master race
>Telecomm and not tech

You're not helping, user.

Motocross is cool. I like thinking about all of the physics behind everything they do.

dumb brainlets have ben told
good job comrad

I like plenty of sports as concepts, but I don't find myself choosing to watch them in my free time. I would if they were placed in front of me. I think I'm somewhat intelligent.

A lot of intelligent people watch sports. You're off to a pretty bad start, OP.

The only smart person I know who watches sports is my girlfriend's Dad who's a doctor.

He's also the most normie person on earth, it seems like he wants nothing more than to surround himself with mundanity to spite his intelligence. Being a genius is actually a very isolating thing so many exceptionally intelligent people will put a lot of effort in "dumbing themselves down" for the sake of fitting in.

Only retards call people who know more crazy.

Boxing is infact the most scientific sport
