Why dont our bodies have a comftorable way to die

what i mean is that, when we die, its usually a horrific process and our bodies hold onto life until the bitter end, even long after the prospect of spreading ones seed could hold any benefit for the species. So why cant our bodies just sense when were "on our last legs", and just simply "turn off" or at the very least give us some sort of subconscious option to just drift away peacefully. Really seems like a logical next step. Why is life so afraid of death?

euthanasia is becoming legal in some places

No evolutionary pressure for peaceful death, or great longevity for that matter. Anything that happens after we've passed on our genes and raised our offspring can't be selected for.

Why is life so afraid of death?
Why is being, a snapshot of something that's able to perpetuate itself with nuanced energetic changes, afraid of becoming the sole thing it set itself apart of.
Would you want to go back to the fucked up parents that locked you in the basement as a child after you've grown into an adult and have a relatively normal life?
And we do have comfortable ways to die, we just don't want to die per se.

cardiac arrest is basically what you are describing, so it happens sometimes

This. Again, if God existed, he would be a shit engineer.

Sadly not enough places, and you almost always have to be terminally ill in the places that are becoming a little more accepting of euthanasia.

I just don't get how we know to give animals a peaceful death, but we don't give the same respect to humans. It's kind of disgusting and seems like a superstitious, religious relic.

What this guy said.

It's argued that there is in fact evolutionary pressure AGAINST longevity (namely intergenerational competition)

I think about this every time I see one of these guys.

well if you believe NDEs are the product of the brain, maybe it's better to just go through it naturally

If we ever do figure out how to live forever, we will also have to figure out how to upend and revolutionize billions of years of evolution within the narrow window of a single generation, or that's the end of the species.

>namely intergenerational competition

Damn boomers living longer than they were supposed to live.

>bitter, bitter, bitter

High intelligence itself might be the end of the species. Evolutionarily speaking, it's a recent concept that hasn't yet found a stable niche (after all, our development never stopped surging).

Intelligence is an evolutionary spandrel or blind alley. It arose due to social as opposed to natural pressures. These dead ends have a way of disappearing as soon as the slightest natural pressure causes them to become an impediment.

Except that its unprecedented in its capability of guiding and potentially supplanting the effects of evolution. We already have a rough idea of how to do this, just not the will.

OP. Listen here. Focus.

Whenever.. no look here! Here, focus!

Now. Whenever you have a WHY-question about organism. The answer is always EVOLUTION and NATURAL SELECTION. You learn that concept by heart and you will never have to bother yourself, or anyone else, with such idiotic questions, ever again.

EVOLUTION. NATURAL SELECTION.

I already pretty much knew evolution was the answer, but was interested in everyone's opinions, it just seems kind of disappointing that nature cant cut us (all living creatures) a little slack, and give us the option of a peaceful death, i guess we as humans simply have to work out a solution on our own if we want one.

I've always wondered why our brains compel us to scratch when our skin is itching, since it only serves to damage our skin, it makes no sense.

Removal of parasites, leeches etc?

Well apparently the 'itching' sensation is caused by subcutaneous chemical reactions, external parasites.

God made it did this way to reward restraint.

no selection pressure for it

Wrong.

The correct answer is: selection pressure for other traits was/is larger.

>Again, if God existed, he would be a shit engineer.
This is what redditors actually believe.

>if God existed

These fucking brainlets and their """atheismos philosophy"""". Don't you realize how god fucking damn amazing life and universe is?

Do u have no imagination? Do u seriously think there are "scientific laws"?

> auto-immune disorders are there to make sure we don't get too uppidity thinking we are the new Gods
this is what Christians actually believe

what is the evolutionary impetus to make death comfortable? There exists only the opposite, if anything.

>what i mean is that, when we die, its usually a horrific process and our bodies hold onto life until the bitter end
Don't be such a pussy, it's not that bad. It's all a matter of attitude man.

Anyway, the answer is: Life is setup to really really avoid death as much as it can.

Because those who fight to survive against all odds are more likely to live. The hope of living on keeps people surviving and reproducing. I don't know about your depressed ass, but I would fight to the bitter end no matter what the situation, because that's what it takes to survive.

Or maybe it's because we value human life greater than that of our pets? We don't let our fellow humans give up and die, because if they survive, they're going to be really glad that you denied them an easy death. This isn't relevant to the terminally ill though. If they're only going to live another week of extreme pain, then yes it is much more merciful to let them go

When I hate living... Viagra, Meth and lot of hookers, should eventually kill me

Being anti-annoying reddit atheist =/= being a hardcore Christian.

>if they survive, they're going to be really glad that you denied them an easy death
Is this really true?

No matter how sad i get about my existence i will fucking kill you if you try to take this gift from you. Fuck you this is all we have

From me i guess.you probably understood that tho already
