Your desert island five

Post the five books in your collection that'll hold you over until the coast guard arrives or you die of starvation.

In Search of Lost Time
Les Miserables

undaunted courage is probably my fave ambrose out of the 4-5 books I've read by him.

better than reading the original lewis and clark journals imo if you want a larger perspective on that trip.

Who reads when you're dying

Infinite Jest
Rise and Fall of the Third Reich
JR
The Bible (because I probably won't read it in any other situation)
Heike Monogatari

I'd take my Oxford Anthology of Great English Poetry obviously, then Ulysses and the Divine Comedy for fiction, then Montaigne's Essays and a work of history, maybe Trotsky's History of the Russian Revolution.

Bible
Writings and Essays of Emerson
Slaughterhouse 5
The Silmarillion
Advanced survival guide of sorts

Yeah, but how big is it? The SAS Guide is about the size of my wallet. It's very easy to take places, tuck into a pocket of a backpack, fit into the glove box, generally find room for without taking up much space or weight.

You've got me there. This thing is paperback, sure, but it's about the size of...a big damn book.
