I'm all for increasing scientific literacy, but I have a feeling just from that thumbnail, this will immediately marginalize the conservative crowd whom which I believe should be the intended audience.

Jesus.

Why is "the science guy" not a scientist?

Jesus, this whole "Bill Nye isn't a fucking hack" thing has gone on for too long. We all know the only reason why he has any sort of nostalgia for us is that we got to watch TV in school. Then, a couple universities got the smart idea to have him speak there to give them the "were progressive and engaging vibe. Now this shit?

No. Fuck this.

Because in America the bar for scientific literacy is so low, even an engineer could raise it.

I will give it a shot, even though I think Billy is kinda overrated as hell, it seems like it would probably be nice as I loved Bill Nye back in the day. But I'm kinda afraid it will screw up something or come off as some kind of circlejerk "We're right, you're wrong!" show. But other things that kinda bothered me...

>Bill is back
He was never really gone to begin with... I'm not the only one who watched his environmental show with the infamous "Tranny fish" (Yes, some one said that on the show, it was hilarious) moment.

>talking about politics
And que inevitable bashing of conservatives so they will want nothing to do with the show, like said, you kinda want to educate them, not just scare them away.

>Alt medicine
Well, that might be pretty shaky.

>Sex
Alright I guess.

>Video games
Why exactly? What about them? The whole violence thing? I feel like that's been put to death already, but then again it keeps creeping back up. But for all you know, bill will probably claim the opposite

>Includes Fashion Model and full on comedian
Why? those aren't really science

BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL

>white pepe the frog at 0:16
>premiers the day after Hitler's birthday
Seems like /pol/ is their intended audience.

>BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL

I think the video gaymes episode might be about video game addiction, how much video games should kids play, can video games be used as tools for education, etc, which are more relevant topics.

BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL

Bill Nye the 90's guy has no appeal beyond 20-something college students

BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL

Wake me up when they do a gritty reboot of The Magic School Bus directed by Zach Snyder

>That "hologram" of Bill Nye's face at the start
>That vitruvian man symbol floating in the bottom of the screen for no reason
>That "funny" fighting pose
>Calling anything "[...] Saves the World" when it's obviously not 100% ironic
>The entire aesthetic of the set
>Audience members throwing balls at him
>People laughing without doing any real science
>A bearded overgrown hair hipster "xd I Fucking Love Science" guy batting a ball
>Mixing chemicals reminiscient of food dye so they create fumes outside an exhaust hood, no gloves, no goggles and not even a face mask with a fucking microscope, an oversized flask and an oversized beaker with a sticker on it lying around
>Tackling themes like SEX just to pull in people, TECHNOLOGY because you can't actually use big scary words instead of a vague undescriptive buzzword, ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE
>People dancing in their underwear on stage
>Both trivialising science and making a lousy joke "It's not rocket surgery, it's science"
>Some guy screaming at a woman's stomach
>Reinforcing a cult of personality by showing a bunch of irrelevant people that will appeal to the public, including actors and singers
>That hipster that plays right into every possible stereotype saying "I don't want to get too sciency" and the host's reply "No, get sciency, that's my jam"
>HOLDING SOMETHING THAT'S ON FIRE WITHOUT ANY SAFETY EQUIPMENT
>Also, a skull with a lit candle on the bench?
>A bobblehead of Bill Nye himself
>Again fumes outside an exhaust hood, but this time with a live fire that he's not even looking at and that's not properly contained
>All those fist bumps
>"I'M BILL NYE AND I'M HERE TO, DARE I SAY IT, SAVE THE WORLD" while doing that funny voice; holy fuck, how pretentious can you get? And no, this is clearly not ironic, he's appealing to the crowd that thinks he's actually some sort of genius and seems to at least partially believe it
>Dropping an expensive microphone just to look "cool"

You can call me autistic, a faggot, a no fun stick-in-the-mud, an edgelord, a "le wrong generation xd" 10 year old or anything else you want, but this honestly makes me sick. I can't even say I feel mad about this, it just makes me feel defeated that people think this is proper science communication. It's watered down, it's barely scientific (showing two chemicals reacting isn't science, explaining how and why they react is what's science) and it appeals to the lowest common denominator. I know I'm not the target audience for this, but is this really going to educate the target audience at all? Science isn't about fun and memes, it's testing hypothesis and making predictions.

How did we reach this point? Things weren't so bad a few decades ago. Sure, these kinds of programs existed, and they were also "fun", but I don't remember them being so fucking DUMB. Smartphones and the Internet should have made us smarter, but instead it created a generation of pseudointellectual cuntholes.

I hate everything, and honestly, if I knew the world were ending tomorrow, first I'd be scared, but then I'd at least be happy that all these people would be fucking killed too. Humans are a cancer and I hate all of them. I honestly, with all my heart and 0% ironically wish that all the people in that video die. I don't even want them to die painfully, just to die and stop existing, to stop perpetuating the cancerous culture they are a part of. I hate them, I hate them so much.

>Wil Wheaton

Why. I have always asked this. Why do they group autistic virgin sci-fi geeks with actual STEM people.

Why do they do this to me? Everyone fucking asks me if I like Star Wars and I am honestly not into that virgin shit. I have a girlfriend, I have a job. I have sex almost every day. I am serious person. Don't lump me in with those motherfuckers.

But I wouldn't blame Bill Nye. I blame production. They probably wanted something to hook in the sci-fi fags so that they get out of their virgin caves to watch the show.

But my point stands. I really think we should start campaigning to separate sci-fi nerds from us. We have nothing in common.

>showing two chemicals reacting isn't science, explaining how and why they react is what's science)
This is why Mr. Wizard was superior to Bill Nye. He'd show neat reactions and then explain, at an appropriate for the audience middle school level, what was happening. "Isn't this neat?" was the hook to get to the lesson instead of being an end unto itself.

Popular science long ago became a pseudo religion based on faith that if you dump a bunch of resources on people in lab coats that everything is possible. That's why personality cults such as Elon Musk annoy so much. Just produce results and leave the marketing BS to fizzy sugar water beverage companies.

Popsci is a problem too but at least popsci is science.

Representing popsci they have the veritasium guy (some youtubber). I honestly don't mind him too much. Bill Nye is also popsci after all so who cares.

But pop culture people are an actual problem. Wil Wheaton is a problem. Why is there? He is a pussy faggot actor/artist (read: autist). Why the fuck is he there? The answer is simple. To pander to be 500 pound, sweaty, disgusting, handholdless virgins who spend all day masturbating to Cortana porn.

Veritasium is retarded. They have several videos on subjects that come to the wrong conclusions.
Death to popsci. Death to it.

I would have much rather seen Bill revitalize Bill Nye the Science Guy, which was a wonderful show for children... this is for man-children.

Why not a reality show where he studies for an undergratuade degree as an adult learner?

>FEATURING NO ACTUAL SCIENTISTS

If you're making a popsci show for adults why the fuck are there no real scientists?

WHERE ARE THE SCIENTISTS BILL? WHERE ARE THEY?

Should have known better than to trust an engineer.

I want to see the 4-7 year long reality show of Bill Nye getting a PhD in Physics or Math.

HOORAY! I LOVE BILL NYE!

In today's episode, and every other episode, Bill debates a creationist.

The veritasium dude has a phd iirc.

>PhD in physics education research

Since when do we consider meme degrees to be real degrees? Please tell me because even tomorrow we were shitting on CS fags. When did we decide that meme degrees were actually worth something?

I want to see a 3 year long reality show where Bill Nye attemps to prove a correspondence between two previously unrelated complexity classes for his PhD but right when he's "about" to complete his proof someone publishes a paper proving that one of the classes is strictly contained in the other and he wastes 3 years of my fucking life.

>science show has black people in it
baka tb.h brainpai

Bill Nye the Bachelor of Engineering Guy

This man owes his entire life to the broken American education system for playing his show to kids instead of teaching them and instilling the nostalgia he leaches off of for a living now.

But is his science wrong?
I honestly don't really remember.
What I see is someone who at least managed to get laymen interested in science. At least a little bit.

This, does anyone really take him seriously, I mean actually take him seriously and not just agree with what he says because "He's Bill Nye the science guy" and the nostalgia around him. Millennials like him because "Wow, I saw him in class as a kid! 90's forever man!", teachers like him because he essentially saves them work.

As much as I like him and can appreciate him, he's essentially a meme. His science is pretty legit, but let's be honest, if he didn't have a show on PBS, no one would really give a single shit about him. He'd just be another Engineer that talks about science a couple times on the news.

I think he needs to back to where he belongs. Children's television.

Seriously though the biggest thing Nye has done for science was to make a kid's TV show that was able to do what a lazy teacher couldn't. None of his stuff since has had the same impact because the only people who care what he says already agree with him. The way to stop scientific illiteracy isn't to debate creationists on TV. It's to educate their kids. Get them while they're young so they don't grow up like their parents.

...

Was Beakman's World a good show? I was past the target age when it came out.

Higher quality version senpai.

Someone's gonna teach them how to make meth anyway, better they do it right.

Alt medicatine and anti GMO is more of a liberal thing

Speaking of GMOs, Ever watch the Eyes of Nye? You know, the short lived 2005 series Bill Nye had that was geared towards a slightly older audience and talked about shaky science subjects like evolution, GMOs, cloning, etc? It had a pretty good episode on GMOs that had views from both sides, and eventually said "We need to have some responsibility with GMOs".

I feel like this new Netflix show would probably do better if it were more based on Eyes of Nye... actually come to think about it, it just looks like another retreading on Eyes of Nye

They are doing a Magic School Bus reboot...

Hopefully the alt medicine episode will be anti-alt medicine, like showing that chiropractic and faith healing don't work.

Bill is such a fedora tipping intellectual I can't imagine him agreeing to do a show where they show quackery as valid

>Bill is such a fedora tipping intellectual I can't imagine him agreeing to do a show where they show quackery as valid

Is that wrong?
People scream "fedora" when other people fight retarded ideas (like pseudoscience or relligion). How does that make any point?

>featuring karlie kloss

It's pretty fucking obvious that the show won't be in support of anti-GMOers and alt-medicine users, when most published research doesn't support those views. I think meant that they will debunk the bullshit the libs believe in too, so the show won't just be about muh dumb climate change denialists trump supporters.

Jesus
Muhammad

Why the fuck would I care about this

I'll give it a shot, but I'm not sure Nye is suited for an adult audience.

Then again he could probably just do the same grade school shit he did in the 90s and the plebs would still be amazed by his big words and containers full of dry ice.

That's nothing

>It's pretty flocking obvious that the show won't be in support of anti-GMOers
youtube.com/watch?v=GKm2Ch3-Myg

the only people i ever see fawn over bill nye and neil tyson are arts majors. also

>karlie kloss

kill me now

Strange, don't know how I accidentally made fucking into flocking

Just sorta wondering, anyone else saw the Bill Nye series made after Bill Nye the science guy?

That's pretty obviously not real.

I watched it as a kid and from what I remember it was really good.

I always loved how at the end of every episode that guy called in and complained about all the scientific inconsistent in the show.

I respect Bill Nye for his work back at Disney but whenever Bill talks about something not in any way science related he just comes up with the most asinine things. Like after the Paris attacks in 2015 when he said that the Syrian migrant crisis was caused by global warming I legit felt like punching him in the face for not having a grasp on reality. That said, this show looks pretentious as fuck, it's like IFLS had a TV show, and some of these people are the last thing someone would associate with science. Diamond Stone is a NBA D Leaguer for Christ sake.

Yet another dumb show telling a load of bullshit that will create another generation of IFLScience kiddies convinced that they got interested in truth because of TV.

makes me laugh every time

now that i refuse to believe

Apparently it was real, I can't find the full res image, but I can believe that a bunch of people who follow her don't know anything about programming.

I barely know anything about programming, and even I know the one on the left is actual code, and the one on the right is dumb "Babby's first 'which number is bigger' program", which doesn't even work because she wanted to be "lol so random"

Trailer looks horrible. Bills entire shtick made sense on Bill Nye the Science Guy. He was trying to make ostensibly boring/esoteric shit interesting to kids.

This show is obviously not aimed at kids, it's aimed at the people who watched Bill Nye growing up.

>it's aimed at the people who watched Bill Nye growing up.
This is pretty much Bill's weakness, unless he moves on and actually aims at an older audience and not just the "I grew up in the 90's" crowd, he's kinda screwed once Gen Z comes in. After all, in one year people born in the year 2000 will start turning 18

>this show looks pretentious as fuck, it's like IFLS had a TV show
That is literally, exactly what this show is.

He studied mechanical engineering and graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1977.

dropped

>the "science guy" isn't even a real scientist

>liking Bill Nye
kys

I don't think Bill Nye needs to aim at an older audience. The Issue Bill Nye has right now is he's aiming at the older audience while pandering to the people who grew up on him. The older audience didn't grow up on him and thus don't care about what he has to say, and those of us who grew up on him aren't that do care aren't the people he needs to reach. He needs to aim young again. Debating a creationist might be more fun, but teaching kids is more productive.

It's Carmack's (actually not Carmack's) fast inverse square root hack from Quake 3, but with all the comments stripped off. There's no way in hell that someone without a clue googling "ugly code" picked something like that by accident - they would have had to have edited it themselves to remove the famous comments, at a bare minimum. It would be like someone claiming "guys can't paint" and comparing a pink finger painting to The Scream, but with the sky replaced with a stock clouds image.

It may have been a real tweet, but there’s just no way in hell that was made by someone being sincere.

>A bearded overgrown hair hipster "xd I Fucking Love Science" guy batting a ball
>Hunter Pence

no, because it's pretty clear to anyone that he's just butthurt and is using this go around as a political soapbox

kinda pathetic, really.

>Mr. Wizard

It was great. But it was a product of the 80's where low production values were still acceptable.
