Why are doctors such brainlets and why do they get perceived as being smart?

Who perceives them to be smart? To be completely fair, here we don't. Here we shit on them because they are inferior to me (us).

So again, who perceives them as being smart? Even bigger retards. Business students, arts students, political brain-washing students, etc. It is simple perspective. To an ant, a tiny little roach looks like a giant.

Can comfirm. I'm in medschool and majority are borderline retards. Retards good at memorisation, but still retards. I'm brainlet myself, but sometimes I can't believe these people will decide about someone life and death.

Borderline brainlet also in medschool, here. My IQ is probably average or maybe slightly above.

What stumped me the first year was that two, TWO people in my mandatory study group of 6 people asked the professor in one of our sessions (epidemiology) how fractions work. Seriously.

Pretty much every normie perceives them as being smart desu

Is that med or premed? Cause a literal retard can pass premed in the USA. Don't tell me students that actually have access to a clinic are this dumb.

I guess it's because med school is the hardest study to get into in most countries.

Just like in any other scientific field, you will find everything between literal retards and very smart people in medicine.

Also, mental spatial manipulation is really simple in medicine, it comes as no surprise to me that medical students are worse at it than e.g. engineering-, physics- and math (EPM) students. The skills learned from studying EPM are much more similar to the skills needed to solve IQ tests than the skills learned from studying medicine are (unless the IQ test is complete garbage, e.g. spelling and history and shit).

at 114 IQ they're smarter than a majority of the population. 100 IQ is, by definition, average. So, if most people think that doctors are smarter than they are, then they are statistically probably correct

>114 iq
>brainlet
>one standard deviation smarter than the entire population
>not knowing how bell curves work
you're the real brainlet OP, you're too Dunning-Kruger to realize those internet iq tests you've been taking are entirely inaccurate

The majority of the population fall within 80-120, so 114 isn't really a big deal, 100 is just the middle of the two.

I wonder if the medicine category includes people with their DO and not just MDs?

I'm just thinking there could be a similar situation to comparison of IQs among majors. Mathematics tends to be lower, but you have to factor in that "Mathematics Education" majors fall under the umbrella of Mathematics.

Likewise, DO schools are "medical" schools too, but they're basically "if you absolutely insist on becoming a doctor, but aren't smart enough to get into real medical school" schools.

i mean the only reason people think 114 is low is because they all circle jerk their high internet iq scores (i always get 130 and im next to braindead)

114 is literally in the 20th percentile (smarter than over 80% of people) as it's just under one standard deviation above the mean aka 100

seems about right to me

considering the average for a college student is already atleasy 115 they are pretty dumb

dude, atleast where I live people think that doctors are "the smartest of the smart" and that they are all legit geniuses. Fucking little shits act like they're better than me at university as well. Id kill myself if my IQ was below 130. lost all my respect for doctors, at 114 you might as well just use webmd fucking useless.

i have an iq of 130 and am a med student
iq is a measure of how much math, geometry you've done

most of the people around me will without issues earn math or physics degrees if they cared to

this

>iq is a measure of how much math, geometry you've done
thanks for confirming that med students are retarded

population-wise, the number of people who are allowed to study math and the people who are allowed to study medicine are very indicative

So what exactly can a person with 130 IQ do that a person with 114 IQ can't?

If you really care that you can rotate and invert the colors of a 3D object in your head 3 seconds faster than your doctor, and for this reason you don't respect him or her, you're a fucking retard.

just look at any iq test, and you'll see i'm correct
the patterns repeat, they're serial, there's arithmetic involved and symbolic representation even on the raven matrices, not to speak of other types of tests where you are asked to literally find next number in a math sequence or a letter, which is the same

>y-you are retarded
but i have an iq of 130 i can't be retarded according to you

They save lives, faggot. What do you do? Shitpost on Veeky Forums. Useless dumb frogposter.

How much does the average go up for graduates?

Med students are hard workers, but you don't necessarily need to be brilliant to memorize a bunch of stuff

Jej, I bet physicists studied how to beat IQ exams so they could look smarter than mathematicians. I've never met a physicist who wasn't a special snowflake who got triggered by mathematicians implying their math is terrible (it is).

They are smart because they chose a better career than you.

While doctors do make bank, they work terrible hours and are ranked among the highest in terms of unhappiness and job dissatisfaction

you have to actually find the career intrinsically rewarding in order to make it

The majority of the population also falls between 1 and 200. You can move the numbers around if you want. The fact that 113 is above average remains.

The truth about Veeky Forums's annoying obsession with IQ

If you are a doctor in a concentration that requires quick and critical decision making, such as surgery in the ER, having a higher IQ would (could) result in faster and more accurate decisions

You could visualize situations more comprehensively and operate with your knowledge more effectively

Speaking generally of course.

> all this circle-jerking about who's smarter than who

Sure is kindergarten in here

Your favorite scientists and philosophers were essentially engaging in dick-waving smarty pants contests on a higher level

competition is healthy you just need to apply that and produce

>one standard deviation smarter than the entire population
What did he mean by this?

you're pretty dumb if you believe that

Not these days bubby. We're flooded with mediocre schools and moreso flooded with mediocre majors

>id kill myself if my iq was below 130
>id kill myself if my iq wasn't in the 97th percentile
well i have news for you user: you're fucking retarded. those internet iq tests aren't actual iq tests, anybody with half brain can get over 130

my dumb as fuck ex gets 115, she is not smarter than 85% of the population

you are literally braindead for saying that, dunning-kruger everywhere in this thread

Well the percentile takes into account dumber races as well

imagine Jewish culture where you are patently mediocre if your IQ is 115

bell curve cuckboy 100 iq is the mean, sigma is 15, ergo one standard deviation above the mean is 115 iq.
one standard deviation is the 84th percentile

also forgive me i can't remember the symbol, i think it was sigma haven't had stats in over a year

dear lord i'm going back to /vp/
at least everyone is happily braindead over there

>so shit at his job he gets locked up

>If you are a doctor in a concentration that requires quick and critical decision making, such as surgery in the ER, having a higher IQ would (could) result in faster and more accurate decisions
>You could visualize situations more comprehensively and operate with your knowledge more effectively

This is baseless conjecture.

First of all, an IQ test mostly measures mental spatial manipulation and pattern recognition, both which are completely useless to a surgeon at any but the most primitive levels imaginable.

Second, working in the ER is one of the intellectually easiest jobs when it comes to MDs.

Third, the other jobs an MD can do don't require you to solve a problem in 10 minutes as opposed to 30 minutes. It's not like somebody will die unless you prove an hitherto unproven millennium problem in 3 seconds.

Fourth, being too intelligent has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to ER surgery; you will be much more likely to lose time by overthinking, in addition to the fact that you will most likely hate your job because it isn't intellectually stimulating.

Lastly, all clinical positions are experience-based, unless it's a completely novel disease, in which the patient will be transferred to a specialist anyway.

In the end, IQ does not reflect the skillset needed to be a good doctor at all. I'd go so far as to say that being smart isn't really a prerequisite either; any retard can become a doctor if he or she wants, though I guess the same goes for maths and physics as well.

It's conjecture, but it isn't baseless. Pattern recognition is relevant, especially the speed of it. You see X problem, you make the connection to Y solution, in enough time to ensure a patient's health, dynamically.

I don't doubt most of a doctor's life is routine and a critical situation like I'm describing may not be regular enough to care so much about a doctor's IQ.

But if you think an idiot can learn medicine, math, or physics, then you have never actually worked with real idiots. Ideas bounce off of their heads like sticks and these are the kinds of people who need to be spoon-fed remedial algebra freshman year.

I'm not interested in arguing the rest of the minutiae, I pointed out one application of higher IQ and I stand by it

/pol/ leaked again

this comment was unexpected

Tfw I'm almost done with my medical doctor degree.

american?

30 bucks you are black.

While you can study for IQ, it has nothing to do with math. That's what insecure retards tell themselves because they are shit at math/physics.

>study for IQ
How? Never took an IQ test, but I want to join Mensa.

whatever respective population we're referring to, i assume the article meant the USA

fake and gay
also
>medical doctor degree
?

I love when a guy tries to btfo someone but ends up just proving he doesn't have a clue what he's on about

>Ben Carson is SO SMART

I'm
polish
. I fully understand that I'm a brainlet considering I was studying theoretical computer science at first but it was too hard so I dropped out. However in medicine there is nothing hard to understand. Just pure memorisation.

begin a doctor isn't about being smart it's about putting the time and effort into the craft

Why do brainlets still use IQ?

>it has nothing to do with math
if you can't see the connection then you are the retard

not going to explain it to you

Because they're memorising machines whose parents told them doctors make lots of money. That's why only about 2% of the doctors like being doctors.

Most people feel better than gods with their piece of paper saying they're smart.
They're similar to that guy in Wizard of Oz except he always had a brain.
As in all professions, some of them can be helpful: others are toxic and harmful.
The helpful ones assume the harmful ones can't be bad cause they got a piece of paper same as them. Arrogance has some grave (sometimes fatal) consequences.

>He thinks I have a favourite scientist or philosopher

Nigger you dare

>Just pure memorisation.

Isn't this some form of intellgience? Or can anyone do it?

This girl I know is a doctor and she has never in her life said anything noteworthy, but I regarded her as intelligent because she got a good score in high school (more memorizing I suppose) and then went through medical school

Could I learn to memorize stuff? I study law and I've become a robot at research and applying the correct law, but I purposely don't even bother trying to memorise it because there's so many sections and cases. I just read my notes one, always understand it cause it's logical, then forget about it until exam/assignments.

>Isn't this some form of intellgience? Or can anyone do it?
It's not a form of intelligence, however, not everyone can do it.
Intelligence has to do with manipulating, not recalling, information. Of course that having a good memory helps with intelligence. If you are able to store information, you also have a larger quantity of it available to manipulate. Thus, you'll get used to manipulating that information and will hone that skill more frequently. It works as a stimulus really.
