I dunno. Let's take a trip in our little rocket ship to the 1800s to see what kind of world it was!

It's been a problem for a long time, but now it's getting attention from mainstream media. This is a good thing.

The only way you can, debunking the most prevalent pieces of anti-scientific or nonfactual pieces floating out there. Radically right conspiracy theorists are too far gone for any evidence to affect them, but we can still fight for the the support of those closer to the middle, not completely decided and open to factual discussion that'll hopefully lead to better informed policy thinking.

By sitting back and letting King Trump exterminate the darkies while letting capitalism pollute our air and water, you stupid cuckfag /s

>post-truth
We're in a post-irony world really. We're seeing institutions we once held as infallible (e.g. the media) shit the bed for the past couple of years with regards to the election like blame Russia for something it didn't do. At the same time these same institutions don't see the ironic and idiotic parallels this has to things like McCarthyism and other things they would say the other side would do in a negative light. Also, we're seeing the American left become more pro-war, pro-segregation/racism (albeit against whites) and comparing a man that's been a lifelong Democrat to Adolf Hitler.Oh yeah, now the left sees the Bushes and McCain as the ideal patriots now that they gave their support to Clinton in the election or said that Russian interference was the reason she lost (disregarding the fact that she didn't make any appeals to the white working class during the whole election while that was Trump's main platform and this demographic lived in the Rustbelt, whose ecnomy didn't actually recover after the Bailout). Also, noe the left is imitating the Tea Party and using literal retards to further their agenda and get their voices heard, despite losing the most power in the Capitol since 1928, with the whole Congress and Presidency becoming Republican. And now they're fine with women being raped by Muslims, even thought their feminists or corporations even thought they are largely anti-capitalism (or at least support some major tenet of socialism). Or talk about social issues at fervent rate when most of the ountry (including most in the opposing party) care less about them and more about the economy/nat'l security and the like. You can't say that we're living in a post truth age when literally your whole philosophy is contradictory to the actions/thoughts you make/think. It's just obsfucation of reality by your own biases and surrounding yourself with sources that you deem true because you like them, but I doesn't realityt have a liberal bias?

Hasn't science always been post-fact?

To paraphrase Kuhn, the history of science indicates that any given time there are a set of "facts" that scientists agree on, because they make accomplishing specific tasks useful, but which will disregarded in favor of new "facts" whenever they cease being useful.

>McCarthyism
media aside, the us government was chock full of open socialist/communists and McCarthy was reeing about it

>we used to collectively believe things becuase I project such

No one with an IQ north of 105 has, at any historical period, ever held the media to be /infallible/. Just because you're dumb doesn't mean that relevant people were, or are.

>reason
>facts
>"truth"
Fuck that. These are modern idols.
Everyone needs to understand that facts depend on interpretations and among lots of facts and you can push the ones that serve you better.
Reason or logic too, it can be used to justify anything you want, and truth is only a relation.

We live now in the post-truth world, accept that, and that's a good thing. Enjoy your stay.

ah, a wall of text of right wing talking points.

how much does a sockpuppet gig go for these days anyhow?

Condensing them all into a single semi-coherent post is pretty impressive though.
They can just post screencaps of that for every response from now on.

Yet you use terms from the media like "post-truth" and "fake news" as if they're going out of style
Nice non-existent argument. Tbqh, the right does this on a regular basis too. The left is just going into autistic maximum overdrive currently, so it's more relevant for them now than a right-winger really.

If you can't see how the term "post truth" applies to both sides then you're literally an uninformed brainlet.
American politics are becoming extremely polarised and a lot of people are living in bubbles hearing drastically different things about the same events more than ever.
>inb4 le radical centrist

Misinformation is not unique to any political side. Any discussion about it should begin with that premise.

Politics were always like this and will always be, that's nature, and this is not a bad thing.

re-read the first post that you cited and replied to. that post contained neither of the phrases that you used in the first part of your reply, to argue against same post. It sounds as if you have confused me with another poster in this thread. Did you know that different random people particiapte in Veeky Forums threads all the time, and that there is a real probability that I am not whoever you had in mind from the above?

Yes and no. Yes, there's nothing new under the sun, but we are going through an especially polarized period compared to the past 25 years in American politics.

>Nice non-existent argument.
There is no argument because you actually have to make a sensical statement to respond to in the first place.
Dumping 50 different talking points in a single post and then proudly claiming a refutation hasn't been offered is ridiculous because nobody in their right mind is going to bother doing a point-by-point rebuttal to walls of right-wing copypasta.

Of course the right does this, they're the only ones that has to, their president is a fucking buffoon and they have to help cover for his every fuckup. When Trump's administration says the murder rate is the highest it's been in 47 years, we just have to point folks to statistics from the department of justice.

If the right-wing is serious about honest debate, pick one particular topic, like the merits of the idea that climate change is a conspiracy funde by big science and spread by the chinese. Then get a right-wing outlet to moderate a debate between experts on both sides of the fence.
That is how mutually enlightening debate can happen. Not with spamming so much bullshit nobody is going to bother tactics.

The emperor has no clothes, never will, you and I will both suffer for it, and no bullshit walls will change any of that.

>right-wing copypasta
>Everything I don't like is right-wing
> their president is a fucking buffoon and they have to help cover for his every fuckup
1) He's your president. Deal with it faggot
2) If he's such a fucking baffoon and already a fuckup, why is Wall Street booming. He's already delivered on his campaign promises in 2 weeks meanwhile Obama couldn't do that in 8 years. George W. Bush couldn't even deliver on his promise to do jackshit during his presidency.
>When Trump's administration says the murder rate is the highest it's been in 47 years, we just have to point folks to statistics from the department of justice.
When did he say that?
>If the right-wing is serious about honest debate
If the left were serious about a debate, they would discuss how openly corrupt their politicians and.or how incompetent they are. A fucking campaign manager of Clinton's fell for a fucking phishing scheme, Clinton couldn't even address her fucking base properly and let's not mention the open collusion between MSNBC, CNN, NYT and WaPo exposed by Wikileaks by the DNC leaks. No let's just call everyone racist for wanting their fucking job back and talk about social issues nearly everyone whose not a Democrat (whether it be Independent or Republican) doesn't care about anymore seeing that there are more important economic and nat'l security issues and affecting our country right now. I mean, realistically who cares if global warming is real? If it's real, we're fucked because we need industry to generate a living. If it's not, oh well. I'm honestly more concerned with the current wave of neoconservatism/liberalism and how they want to create an artificial wedge between us and Russia, because that will probably end in nuclear war. which is WAYY more frightening than global warming could ever be.

I care about conspiracy theories generated by the left about Russia "hacking our election" when their candidate lost, because angering a fucking nuclear power without any evidence is a fucking great idea. If the left wanted to have an honest debate they would actually talk about why the fuck they lost the election and rationalize it in terms of certain demographics and socio-economic measures instead of going fucking nuts and blaming the FBI and some Russian tin horn dictator for the worst presidential candidate's staggering losss. But you don't you continue wanting to act like fucking haughty autists. So fuck it. At this point, it's pretty likely Trump will be a 2 term president anyway, since the Democratic Party is starting to split among ideological lines and is pushing itself further left. Not to mention the fact that there are no good candidates for 2020 So enjoy 8 years, cunt.

Is anyone left in the middle on climate change?

Stoped reading and watching everything that is mainstream media.

>democrat voting nigger cant read
what a surprise.

Well, on the one hand you got this bloke who believes climate change isn't real, and has some interesting beliefs on vaccines, but at the same time, the left wing and all the media are so capable of completely and intentionally misquoting something until the masses believe complete lies.

I think it makes one want to pursue science and math even more fervently to escape from this world of idiocy that we live in. Just keep your research subject wide so you don't suddenly become bereft of all your funding. Like, make sure your research and your skills are transferable. Although I think in general that's an attitude you should exercise in general, no matter how stupid the world is.

I un ironically support even I am a math and science guy

He may be wrong on climate science and vaccines but his HONESTY is what politics desperately needs.

That he actually gets shit done

>1) He's your president. Deal with it faggot
Him being the legitimate president and him being retarded are not mutually exclusive things.

>2) If he's such a fucking baffoon and already a fuckup, why is Wall Street booming.
The markets are expecting an administration of deregulation. This is not necessarily a positive thing, unless you subscribe to laissez faire theology.

>He's already delivered on his campaign promises in 2 weeks meanwhile Obama couldn't do that in 8 years.
This is a rather broad sweeping assertion. Trump and Obama promised many things, Obama did not meet some of the things he promised. Thus far the only impacting thing that came to fruition is immigration ban, which was nullified in court. The other very recent impacting action was a illegal immigration crack down based on "criminal act", which is effectively a lowering of the standard of what will get you deported. All the other EO's were symbolic at best.

>When did he say that?
whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/02/07/remarks-president-trump-roundtable-county-sheriffs
>"THE PRESIDENT: And yet the murder rate in our country is the highest it’s been in 47 years, right? Did you know that? Forty-seven years. I used to use that -- I’d say that in a speech and everybody was surprised, because the press doesn’t tell it like it is. It wasn’t to their advantage to say that. But the murder rate is the highest it’s been in, I guess, from 45 to 47 years."

>If the left were serious about a debate, they would discuss how openly corrupt their politicians and.or how incompetent they are.
Your perception of corruption and incompetence is not really aligned with reality. There was a significant talk about collusion between DNC and Hillary Campaign, prior to Nov. 8.

>A fucking campaign manager of Clinton's fell for a fucking phishing scheme,
Phishing schemes are typically employed as wide dragnets, not surgical attacks. Someone was bound to fall.

>Clinton couldn't even address her fucking base properly and let's not mention the open collusion between MSNBC, CNN, NYT and WaPo exposed by Wikileaks by the DNC leaks.
The only evidence of collusion between the press and HC campaign was the one question forwarded by Donna Brazile regarding Flint water pollution. She was later fired by CNN.

>No let's just call everyone racist for wanting their fucking job back
Hillary made one statement about "basket of deplorable" which later got spun into her calling people racist. She retracted that comment later, despite it being justified.

>important economic and nat'l security issues... who cares if global warming is real?
This is the pentagons thought on Global Warming and it's potential impact on global security:youtube.com/watch?v=gEPdOZbyzbw

>and how they want to create an artificial wedge between us and Russia, because that will probably end in nuclear war. which is WAYY more frightening than global warming could ever be.
I will follow up on the absurdity of this thought process later...

>I care about conspiracy theories generated by the left about Russia "hacking our election" when their candidate lost
Trump made repeated statement regarding the compromise of the electoral system prior to Nov 8. He never actually stated that he would accept the results has he lost. Both the Jill Stein Campaign and Hillary campaign have made clear statements that they did not find any significant signs tampering or hacking.
hotair.com/archives/2016/11/26/white-house-team-hillary-yeah-theres-no-evidence-the-election-was-hacked/

This is separate from claim that Russia orchestrated a multipronged organize campaign to undermine the potential candidacy of Hillary, undermine confidence in the electoral system and eventually support the candidacy of Trump.

Multitude of prominent post election party officials including Bernie, Warren, Keith, Al Franken, Schummer have made similar statements.

>Him being the legitimate president and him being retarded are not mutually exclusive things.
So Hillary Clinton was so fucking useless sje lost to a retard?. SAD!

>Obama did not meet some of the things he promised
Like closing Guantanamo, being transparent and stop the invasions of privacy started by Bush. Oh yeah and get out of the Middle East. Meanwhile, Trump effectively the TPP on day 1, made motions to renegotiate NAFTA and is starting to look at plans for the Wall.
>There was a significant talk about collusion between DNC and Hillary Campaign, prior to N
I didn't see it anywhere on Salon, Being Liberal or all these supposed sites AND MSNBC and CNN talked about was how Trump was literally Hitler. Only FOX managed to do some actual mentions of her corruption scandals in an in-depth manner that didn't go to the tune of "she made a mistake in office";the same fucking network that sold us the Iraq War actually managed to do basic newscasting better than all the other stations. That's literally a fucking shame.

>Phishing schemes are typically employed as wide dragnets, not surgical attacks. Someone was bound to fall.
Yeah, but it tells you the level of intelligence within the Clinton campaign and the DNC as a whole.

>The only evidence of collusion between the press and HC campaign was the one question forwarded by Donna Brazile regarding Flint water pollution. She was later fired by CNN.

not the guy you're responding to but democracy is weak to retards. it's the biggest flaw!!

>Hillary made one statement about "basket of deplorable" which later got spun into her calling people racist.
Because she called them racists, xenophobes and sexists at a private gala where she wasn't expecting any footage to go into the public eye. It's the exact same shit as Romney's 47% speech only more damning since she was actively calling her base deplorables. And you call Trump retarded. Hillary Clinton did more to alienate her base than any candidate for the office of president ever. She didn't address any economic issues (which affected her base predominantly). She didn't talk about why she was more qualified than Trump (probably because she wasn't). Her campaign was a shitty version of McCain's or Romney's (which were already pitiful) pitch that "At least I'm not that guy"

>Trump made repeated statement regarding the compromise of the electoral system prior to Nov 8.
When? He said if I win, I'll respect the results of the election.

>This is separate from claim that Russia orchestrated a multipronged organize campaign to undermine the potential candidacy of Hillary, undermine confidence in the electoral system and eventually support the candidacy of Trump.
Well, extreme claims require extreme evidence and I see no evidence the Russia did shit. The people pushing this idea are either connected to the gov't or connected to the 17 agencies that lied about why we went to Iraq. Until we actually uncover any proof of this it's pretty much a conspiracy theory. Not only that, but really, what could Russia have to gain under Trump: a somewhat competent leader who can stand on his own two feet and not be carried around and thrown like a sack of potatoes. Meanwhile:
nytimes.com/2015/04/24/us/cash-flowed-to-clinton-foundation-as-russians-pressed-for-control-of-uranium-company.html?_r=0

>Multitude of prominent post election party officials including Bernie, Warren, Keith, Al Franken, Schummer have made similar statements.
Then why the fuck are they encouraging autists to chimp out over Trump? That's going to move the Republicans further right , along with the Independents and moderates. No one liked the Tea Party in 2012 for the stupid shit they said they sure as hell won't like ANTIFA for the dumb shit they do in the name of leftism.
>youtube.com/watch?v=gEPdOZbyzbw
See this is example of clickbait. It overdramaticizes some idea to the point of absurdity. The world isn't going to go to shit if global warming is as dangerous and scary as the modern left would have me believe (which is another example of too much drama). Things will change for the worse in a slight manner and we'll adapt to the changes, like we have been doing for the past 40,000 years. What makes global warming any more of a threat than an Ice Age, especially when we have technology to produce actually useful alternative energy (nuclear, geothermal, hydroelectric energy) and mine cleaner coal? Nothing really. You're just being overdramatic over nothing. If this were nukes we were talking about, we'd be fucked. But thankfully, we're not talking about nuclear weapons.

Can you fucking faggots go back to twitter already? The term "fake news" was started by the left. So sick of these fedora tipping circlejerks

I'd like to add to the Russia point: Hilary Clinton was the worst presidential candidate EVER. I've never seen some one make so many mistakes on the campaign trail before: she:
1) Was hilariously corrupt yet thought she would get away with it

2) Didn't know how to address the white, working class while Trump not only could do that, but address the evangelical Republican base decently as well

3) Have a stiff and unnatural appearance 90% of the time, resulting in her looking sick or ill (honestly she probably was).

4) Not actually answering questions relating to her private email server as SoS or the DNC emails. She actually was stupid enough to confirm it was her emails in the DNC leaks.

5) She didn't even visit the rural part of the Rustbelt once. Bill Clinton, mind you, did this multiple times to get himself elected. Trump did the same. Most of his stops were in rural PA, WI, MI or OH (there were some in MI as well actually). Hillary Clinton didn't even visit WI once and only visited the urban areas of the Rustbelt, places that were already D-leaning.

6) She expected the media to do her campaigning for her, although they have an even lower approval rating than Trump AND Congress (Congress' approval rating is about 30-40% last time I checked).

7)"Muh Vagina" was her only pitch. Meanwhile, Trump was talking about growing the economy by bringing jobs back and building a wall to ensure domestic tranquility and just in general things that resonate more with Americans now than 8 years ago.

8) She has a shitty gov't track record. She voted for Iraq, she was involved with the destruction of the Libyan state and the Benghazi attacks that left 4 of our men dead. Not to mention her record of supposedly harassing women for Bill's sexual escapades.

If you really think Russia had anything to do with Hillary Clinton being a shitty candidate, you probably should just kill yourself right now.

subtle troll 10/10

Let's also not forget about Seth Rich, a DNC insider who would have all the passwords necessary to leak all the DNC materials who was killed around the time of the DNC convention under very suspicious circumstances. Note this is where the original claims of of Russian interference surfaced. realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/10/09/donna_brazile_wikileaks_documents_are_crap_post-marked_from_russia.html?_escaped_fragment_=#!

The most likely case is that a DNC insider leaked the goods on Clinton and the DNC and in response the DNC blamed Russia, because they're even more incompetent and autistic than the neocons in the Republican party. They only toned down the language relating to hacking because they found literally no evidence: because there was none in the first place

>post-truth world
