Take an English class at a university in any major metropolitan area and you will run into literally hundreds of black students who read just as much as Chad and Diane from whatever flyover suburb you're from.

OP I'm gonna join in with other anons and suggest you invest in one of the books of annotations for Ulysses. It makes the experience a lot more enjoyable.
