Best book I have ever read, what is yours lit?

I can not easily pick the best, but for the year 2016 I have really enjoyed this one.

Siddhartha for me too, good tast OP

I also love Siddhartha. Probably my best. You should read Narcissus and Goldmund.

Siddhartha was good but I liked Steppenwolf better 2bh
As for best book I've ever read? No idea.
Best book I've read this year? The Setting Sun by Osamu Dazai

Plebs

And along with The Master and Margarita

journey to the center of the night or
blood meridian or
Infinite Jest

I just finished this book yesterday. It's incredible.

Unironically Ulysses

Siddhartha
Infinite Jest
Crime & Punishment (most Dostoevsky tbqhfam)

This book is bad and you should feel bad.

(you)lysses

don't talk shit about Hesse or I'll fuck you up

It's amazing how every faggot on Veeky Forums loves the same 5 books. You guys are fucking pussies.

Damn right I'm fucking pussies

Sorry about your dissociative identity disorder.

i particularly hate siddartha. it is what i call a brainwasher book.

Mmmmm, such mastery of language, and such a feel good story for such depressing content.

Idk why people like Siddhartha so much. It felt like run of the mill Buddhist/Hindu ideas put into a novella

Like it wasn't...bad or anything. IMO kinda flat though some parts were powerful to me. I just don't understand how it's the best you've ever read.

It's been a long long time since I read that book. Very good, for some reason I loved his journey, the fact that even when he seemed lost he was on the path he set out to take. The river stuff was kinda dumb, I don't see why people thought Siddhartha was any more wise than the ferry man.

Best as in favorite? Probably Flowers for Algernon.

Doktor Faustus, Thomas Mann

Siddhartha was alright. It was nothing special, but it had a nice message and is very short.

The best book I have read in 2016 is still undecided between pic related and Journey to the End of the Night.

The truest form of cancer there is

My favorite book is Candice :)

Unironically changed my personality around in high school. Lame surface level mixture of Seize The Day and just keep swimming philosophies but hey I'm happy as a clam and I thank my boy Pangloss for that.

I read it once a year around Christmas.

My favorite book is probably Ulysses or Portrait of an Artist but I usually say Till We Have Faces. I also really liked Song of Solomon out of what I've read recently.

Haven't read Till We Have Faces in a long time though, so that answer's not great. Beautiful book though.

How can you read a book every year and still misunderstand it?

Why did you guys like Siddhartha? I got bored and gave up even though it was short. I just saw it as "DUDE CAN'T KNOW SELF ENLIGHTENMENT LMAO" ,if I recall correctly

Ur mad lmao

...

>hesse
I remember when I was an angsty teenager too.

Candide. I like what I've heard about Voltaire, I'll have to read his works eventually.

My God, the plebs are at it again.

The only contemporary author who can be considered on par with the classics.

>Reminder that you're a pleb if you can't read French.

Literally couldn't even enjoy this book because of the poo in loo context

What I like is that the cancer he calls patrician also have no opinion of their own.

I liked this contrarian post

The Art of the Deal

Radiant Terminus.

I really like the harry potter books, if i had to pick one maybe half blood prince, i haven't really read most of the stuff you guys said here, how does it compare to harry potter ?

Harry Potter is better.

"En tid for alt" by Knausgård, he has really mastered the Norwegian language like no one else in newer times
