What's up with this meme?

MF Doom

This nigga

>I want a chick who puts up with my shit and puts out/ like a little girl scout/

and

I am the sun of the future
25 years from now, I think
try recalling the Golden Age
when we heard these words for the first time
Please come back to the exact spot we're at
we're speaking right now

Never forget the Golden Age
Doncha hear that this song is forever
Never forget the Golden Age
Notice it didn't remain as remembered
Never forget the Golden Age
A quarter century from now
Never forget the Golden Age

It never used to make you sad
but now you lost what you never knew you had
This is an artifact of that
This is an artifact of that

If this is you, 25 years accrued
Disregard the following's for the old you
who hasn't heard this before
"Son I gotta tell ya bout the future see
It's a living hell, it's not at all like the golden age
They're gonna kill your comforts with worries
Pertaining to your health, Pertaining to your future
Pertaining to ya mama"

Never forget the golden age
A man of wealth you saw yourself someday
never forget the golden age - where is the soldier
he used to be so brave he left a martyr and
came back a slave

Neither teachers nor dads
could see the world that they brought ya to was bad
This is an artifact of that
This is an artifact, artifact of that

When the terrorists
spread the plague through
computer screens and we die
And they erase what was
left of the west
Just a shopping mall
In 25 minutes I want
you to come back
and recall the first time
In 25 minutes
The world's gonna crack
It's all gonna crack!

Remember this tune made you laugh
but these days a laugh's merely artifact
Artifact of that

It never used to make you sad
but now you lost what you never knew you had
This is an artifact of that
This is an artifact of that

>no mention of LenLen McJewface yet
Is he really this dead?

Singing should be appreciated as sound, the words are irrelevant.

Elliott Smith because

RIP Len :-(

Those are parentheses.

...

He's genuinely a fantastic lyricist, but people are bandwagonning these days because he has terminal brain cancer and will die probably within a year

example: Throwing off Glass

"Why is the world so creepy?", she asked
After a car full of haircuts drove past
A backseat full of the boys
I told her that, It isn't
That, that it's exquisite
But like love, it has it's barbarous threats
Still in spite of the cads
And the stoop-shouldered teens
I know I'm losing you
I know what that means, yeah
I told her that it isn't
That it's real exquisite
But like love, it can have it's
Stubbed-toe effects
And juts like after she heard the word, 'Iridescent'
And everything was iridescent for awhile
It wasn't long before she exalted out of nowhere
Isn't this exquisite?'
Once you've said, 'mmm' in unison
And, 'oh' in double surprise
And shared relief with a mutual, 'phew'
And a look in each others eyes

I tell her that is isn't, insisted that it isn't
Because like love it has too-cunning effects, yeah
I told her that it isn't that it's just exquisite
Because like love it has it's barbarous threats
"Why is the world so creepy?", she asked
After a car full of haircuts drove past
A backseat full of the boys
Breaking glass, throwing off glass

Joanna Newsom, no doubt.

Robert Ashley is king.

God, yes.
I haven't listened to him for a while, actually. I miss that very singular corner his music ambushes me in. Thank you, amico.
What else do you enjoy, musically?

I thought that was a guy holding his own beaten up nutsack.

Billie Joe Shaver is a great one, underrated because lol country

Sam Beam.
I mean goddamn.

Robert Ashley is a favorite as well.
Besides them two I would say that other great writer-musicians are David Berman, Bob Lind and Kate Bush. I don't know why Veeky Forums never mentions these names in threads like these...
But more generally I usually listen to music with few words (now that I think about it) like J Dilla and Harry Pussy.

youtu.be/jKl4Wpu75W0

Indeed. Berman and Bush also swim in my soup, along with Robbie Basho and Van Ronk, mostly. I'll give that Bob Lind chap a go.
Oh, Harry Pussy. I used to wake up to 'Ride a Dove' during my first year of university, but stopped after a few weeks. Got me tad fucked up, less round.

Wow, Grimes really let herself go.

"Higgs Boson Blues"

Can't remember anything at all
Flame trees line the streets
Can't remember anything at all
But I'm driving my car down to Geneva

I've been sitting in my basement patio
Aye, it was hot
Up above, girls walk past, the roses all in bloom
Have you ever heard about the Higgs Boson blues
I'm goin' down to Geneva baby, gonna teach it to you

Who cares, who cares what the future brings?
Black road long and I drove and drove
I came upon a crossroad
The night was hot and black
I see Robert Johnson,
With a ten dollar guitar strapped to his back,
Lookin' for a tune

Well here comes Lucifer,
With his canon law,
And a hundred black babies runnin' from his genocidal jaw
He got the real killer groove
Robert Johnson and the devil man
Don't know who's gonna rip off who

Driving my car, flame trees on fire
Sitting and singin' the Higgs Boson blues,
I'm tired, I'm lookin' for a spot to drop
All the clocks have stopped in Memphis now
In the Lorraine Motel, it's hot, it's hot
That's why they call it the Hot Spot
I take a room with a view
Hear a man preaching in a language that's completely new, yea
Making the hot cocks in the flophouse bleed
While the cleaning ladies sob into their mops
And a bellhop hops and bops
A shot rings out to a spiritual groove
Everybody bleeding to that Higgs Boson Blues

If I die tonight, bury me
In my favorite yellow patent leather shoes
With a mummified cat and a cone-like hat
That the caliphate forced on the Jews
Can you feel my heartbeat?
Can you feel my heartbeat?

Hannah Montana does the African Savannah
As the simulated rainy season begins
She curses the queue at the Zulus
And moves on to Amazonia
And cries with the dolphins
Mama ate the pygmy
The pygmy ate the monkey
The monkey has a gift that he is sending back to you
Look here comes the missionary
With his smallpox and flu
He's saving them savages
With his Higgs Boson Blues
I'm driving my car down to Geneva
I'm driving my car down to Geneva

Oh let the damn day break
The rainy days always make me sad
Miley Cyrus floats in a swimming pool in Toluca Lake
And you're the best girl I've ever had
Can't remember anything at all

"Red Right Hand"

Take a little walk to the edge of town
and go across the tracks
Where the viaduct looms,
like a bird of doom
As it shifts and cracks
Where secrets lie in the border fires,
in the humming wires
Hey man, you know
you're never coming back
Past the square, past the bridge,
past the mills, past the stacks
On a gathering storm comes
a tall handsome man
in a dusty black coat with
a red right hand

He'll wrap you in his arms,
tell you that you've been a good boy
He'll rekindle all the dreams
it took you a lifetime to destroy
He'll reach deep into the hole,
heal your shrinking soul,
but there won't be a single thing
that you can do
He's a god, he's a man,
he's a ghost, he's a guru
They're whispering his name
through this disappearing land
But hidden in his coat
is a red right hand

You don't have no money?
He'll get you some
You don't have no car?
He'll get you one
You don't have no self-respect,
you feel like an insect
Well don't you worry buddy,
'cause here he comes
Through the ghettos and the barrio
and the bowery and the slum
A shadow is cast wherever he stands
Stacks of green paper in his
red right hand

You'll see him in your nightmares,
you'll see him in your dreams
He'll appear out of nowhere but
he ain't what he seems
You'll see him in your head,
on the TV screen
And hey buddy, I'm warning
you to turn it off
He's a ghost, he's a god,
he's a man, he's a guru
You're one microscopic cog
in his catastrophic plan
Designed and directed by
his red right hand

Peter murphy.

I'm ashamed

what drives us on?
what drives us on?

i left something of myself in you
fourscore, twenty, thirty
in your body and in your flesh
in your vault of skin
i was nothing for you
but the shadow of another love
that one day for you
would shift the skies
to pastures blue
streaked with passing and loss
tortoise green in my eyes
from the moss of my past
you arise
and lightly then i saw you smile
with ivory throat and ivory eyes
at night i catch you before i sleep
and if i died before i wake
i prayed that you my heart might keep
i cannot hold your tunnelled eyes
near my heart any longer
all this love is nothing truly:
mist of moons' breath
grit of evening
the grass was green (i now recall)
before my own particular fall
i saw we were both really
masks on nothing
(the moonlight sweeping over northern beaches)
all the trees stand stripped
just silhouttes of memories
at night i have started to dream of you:
your eyes are wide
and shot through with seablue

I quite enjoy Rammstein for the meanings in their lyrics. While the music sounds like "2hard4u edgelord" Metal-thing, They are actually quite good with their lyrics often having multiple meanings in their songs. For instance "Dalai Lama" is a retelling of Goethes "Der Erlkönig" which works quite nice: dailymotion.com/video/x281ip_rammstein-dalai-lama_news

Earlkönig:
Wer reitet so spät durch Nacht und Wind?
Es ist der Vater mit seinem Kind;
Er hat den Knaben wohl in dem Arm,
Er faßt ihn sicher, er hält ihn warm.
(Who rides, so late, through night and wind?
It is the father with his child.
He has the boy well in his arm
He holds him safely, he keeps him warm)
Rammstein:
Ein Flugzeug liegt im Abendwind
An Bord ist auch ein Mann mit Kind
Sie sitzen sicher sitzen warm
und gehen so dem Schlaf ins Garn
(an Airplane lies in the twilightwinds
On board as well a man and with child
they're seated safe, seated warm
and so they get caught in sleeps yarn (fuck me on how to translate it, it basically means they fall for the sweet trap that is sleep)

>"I cum in the fuck."- Stephan Burnett.

What did he mean by this?

>off in the world, off in the world, a girl's vagoo, I'm lost for words.
I agree, ariel pink is a top tier lyricist.

Against The Nature"

Well I confess
I had myself a good laugh
Remembering times of
My provincial naive

When I was ready
To break horns of all the cows
Just to establish myself
As non-conforming

Well, time has passed
And I looked back with a different eye
And thought it's time to
Reenlist with wonder-why-guy
I reached-a for a pen to sign a peace treaty
But suddenly got up
And took to running wild

Against the nature
Against the grain
For as long and as far as you can
For only there lays entertainment
For a heart of merry-lasting man

What do you do my friend
When you are done with
Investigating bounds of reality?
Creating hundreds of amendments
For issuing of commandments
Ready to shoot yourself
Out of curiosity, but wait!
There is a way
Ain't nothing new to say
However

Against the nature
Against the grain
Run as long and as far as you can
For only there lays entertainment
For a heart of merry-lasting man

I wake up in a night
Turn on my lamp
Should contemplate direction of my vector
When I find small parcel from the lord
Fruit basket sprinkled with nectars
And there I sit and my legs are strong
All quiet only voices dining fearsome
I shove a piece of garlic down my throat
Come on hop down the stairs come on
You're all eternal falls of reason

Against the nature
Against the grain
For as long and as far as you can
For only there lies entertainment
For a heart of merry-lasting man

Ariel is great

Outside of steely Dan and early Bruce Springsteen it's hard to find good jazz, rock n roll, blues, all mixed

Toot toot. Make way for the meme man. Although it hurts to admit it I am not being ironic.

And the first one tore a picture
Of a dead and hanging man
Who was kissing foreign fishes
That flew right out from this hands
And when I put my arms around him
I felt the blushing blood run through my cheeks
And an eeriness surrounded when his tongue began to speak
And he said...Oh boy you are so pretty
Enough to wrap tight in rice-paper string.
And when I finally kissed him the whole world began to ring
Lost like a bell that's tipping over
With two cracks along both sides
And I knew the world was over so I took a look outside
And watched the fires that were reaching
Up to the weather vane and the tops of trees
And the waiting scene and the Sunday dream
They're all waiting here for me

>CTR+F "Chad Vangaalen"

Vangaalen is a Canadian shut-in who recorded most of his work in his own basement studio, writes his own lyrics and composes his own music. Severley underrated - his album Soft Airplane is one of my favorites.

Even better, he draws and animates his own music videos (youtube.com/watch?v=58rP44NSNNs)

You made a promise to yourself you'd find her and bring her back for the world to see. She is shimmering, she is beautiful. You thought catching her would set you free.

She was such a long way down...

With the line pulled tight, cuttin' through your hands you were up all night. Was it hallucination, or did your eyes see right?

You made a promise to yourself you'd find her and bring her back for the world to see. She is shimmering, she is beautiful. You thought catching her would set you free.

Seconded

>They gave me a useless education, a sub prime loan on a craftsman home, get my prescriptions filled, and now I can't get off, but I can sort of deal

Yeah, he's pretty great, but not because of those lines imo.

...

Same

My point was he's a really shitty lyricist, guess my sarcasm didn't come through well enough

nah, you mistake lyricism for poeticism, it's okay though, one day you'll understand the difference and understand why people like Tillman are good.

Maybe one day you'll back up your dumb fucking opinions with reasons and explanations.

Eminem. If you don't believe me just read "Lose Yourself."

One day you'll associate yourself with people you like as opposed to defining yourself through scoffing.
