They dont' want to show us the flat horizon
euros are building carbon fiber solid propellant rockets lol what a buncha clowns
Strong and light.
SpaceX will be underpricing them soon enough
They just have issues with launch rate right now
Even so, there's politics involved and ESA will find ways to secure launches based on European missions regardless of price.
Either way it's great that all launch providers are innovating, competition is good for all.
Successful separation of Sat!
Price isn't the only factor. All-solid rockets can be stored and launched at short notice and in bursts of launches in rapid succession. (technically Vega isn't all-solid, but the small storable-propellant upper stage isn't going to take longer to get ready for launch than the payload)
>there's politics involved
More to the point, there are military applications involved. Vega is essentially an ICBM.
Vega is one of the only small launchers that is NOT derived from an ICBM! It is derived from the boosters of the Ariane 5. Japan's Epsilon is the same (H-IIAs solid booster), whereas the American, Russian, and Chinese small launchers are all derived from their ICBMs.
