The problem is this insistence of labeling people "gay" or "straight" when it literally has nothing to do with attraction to genitals. Practically all attraction outside of pornography has nothing to do with genital appearance. it's secondary sexual characteristics.

Scientifically, there's no such thing as gay or straight. There are hormonal predictors which influence the kinds of qualities which attract someone. Typically the more masculine attraction factors are assigned to women and more feminine factors assigned to men. However, there is a spectrum with what men find attractive in women and vice versa.

This is where the social construct comes in. Humans prefer to think in simple binary systems, so we created the word gay to define people who belonged in the less popular of the binary groups. What really occurs in nature though is the spectra which we're conditioned to see in binary terms (some men like more masculine women than others) are really one larger spectrum (some people like more masculine people than other people).
