how Veeky Forums is being an art teacher because that's what I think I'm destined to do in life

Not very, desu

Dari Linguist in the Air Force.

me. trying to avoid it but im already at law school

Honestly, having the soul of a NEET is the most Veeky Forums thing. Either not working or working just enough to live "comfortably" (comfortably by Veeky Forums standards, not necessarily by the world at large) and then spending the rest of your time reading/writing.

I teach HS English. It is actually much less Veeky Forums than you might think. I spend as much time talking about teh content as I do whatever else comes up. It's fun, but you need a certain personality and habits of learning. I know a little bit about a lot of shit, which comes in handy.

this

I am planning on becoming a high school English teacher (French certification as well, but English as the primary). How hard was it to find a job? Do your students act interested at all? What do you have them read?

Priest who gradually comes to doubt and then disbelieve in God, but who must continue to tend to his flock out of a sense of devotion

checking in. starting law school this fall

You guys are morons. There's nothing Veeky Forums about law school, and even less about working as a lawyer, at least in biglaw (which is probably the absolute best realistic outcome for most grads). You will work endlessly, all your personal relationships will fall apart, and you'll likely never write anything again.

If you work for the gov't you'll have a better shot, but the pay's shit.

Not Veeky Forums. Your mind gets warped after 6 or so years of proximity to all of the bureaucratic nonsense.

This was done in a Bergman movie, winter light.

where do i apply?

>govt
>better shot
>the pay isn't good
I see you don't know shit about government work. It pays well, but is entirely un-lit.

How Veeky Forums is becoming a painter? I'm getting my degree with a specialization in oil painting, I spend the rest of my time reading poetry and shit for creative output at the library..

Having a law degree is a huge help in integrating with any industry. Law + [Insert Masters] = Independent Consulting, can do whatever the fuck you want and make six figures a year barely trying.

it's a long road but fuckit, been in the education system 16 years, what's another 5?

Are you fucking kidding me? Everybody I know who went to gov't works reasonable hours. They leave by 6 or 7 most nights. Some have flextime where they get Fridays off. They can be as Veeky Forums as they want.

They also started off at 60K a year, which to my mind is super shitty after 7 years of school.

I'm in seminary now, kinda fearing it will happen to me. The silver lining is becoming Veeky Forums I guess

>tfw working on a philosophy degree
>tfw my only opportunity after graduation is Arby's night manager

Might as well go to law school and be an in debt Arby's night manager ayy lmao

This is by and large false, and everybody thinks this for some reason. I knew a few people who went to MBB, but it was nowhere near automatic.

Thanks for the advice.

Priest spends a lot of time dealing with people's problems.
And the amount of reading required to do a good work in your parish is reasonable, so most of the time spent reading will be devoted to christian authors.

OP I want to know that too, going to finish engineering here in a good university but lately I'm hating each hour I spend in the university to the point that watching the lectures are only improving my self-hatred.
I'm planning on trying the diplomatic career. Here in my countr you need to have a university degree and pass on a few exams and selections.
The subjects go from law, history, national history and the history in our foreign policy and the foreign policy nowadays, plus knowing at least 2 languages outside the native and english (so at least 4 in total).
My uni degree has nothing to do with humanities, nothing that I learned will be useful, so I'm screwed and in comparison to the guys that prepared since their teens (i.e studying law or history, or any humanities course) for that exam I'm completely behind.
At least I know english already HAHAHA.
Help me senpai

No problem. I don't mean to be too negative. It's just that it's incredibly unlikely. Even coming from HYS, where MBB sometimes come to OCI, the success rate isn't fantastic, and you'll just start off in an MBA position which raises the question of why you wouldn't just get an MBA.

>How hard was it to find a job?

Not too bad. I have a decent publishing background so that made me a bit of a novelty.

>Do your students act interested at all?
Yes, a lot of them are interested. Mostly they are just interested in talking about things, and sometimes that includes the course content.

> What do you have them read?
Standard HS boilerplate curriculum. 1984, Lord of the Flies, Hamlet and other stuff Bill supposedly wrote, lots of various poetry in English. I do not teach any elective courses, but those that do have a lot of fun. An English instructor in my school teaches a film course, and another teaches journalism. the directions you can take and the courses you're assigned will likely depend on the size of the school. Larger districts can do a ton of cool shit.

It's a pretty hard job, though, with grading done by the ream, so during the shcool year i don't have much time for things that aren't work. I don't mind though, for I've got almost all summer to nurture my NEET tendencies.

If you've got a dual cert you'll have an easier time findign a job. Myself, I was so impressed by the special ed kids that I'm adding a sped cert, which will basically guarantee a job in just about any district.

Get your sped cert when you can, if you can handle it. htere are literally hundreds of positions available in my state right now.

oh, and the first year will likely be the worst year of your life. Just be prepared. I ended up on benzos and drank a whole lot of vodka.

>other stuff Bill supposedly wrote

Thanks for all the info man! Just out of curiosity, what state do you work in?

Why was it the worst year?

I can only imagine suddenly spending a LOT more time around teenagers increases suicidal ideation

At this point, NEET or minimum wage part time job and spending all your free time reading and writing.
You can study all the technique and theory stuff as well as knowing the canon just with an internet connection and your local library.
Go and try to top James Joyce, someone has to do it.

It better be a t14 or you're fucked after graduating

Dealing with problems and reading seems pretty /it/

:D

if i stop the momentum at this point i'll probably just kill myself so onwards and forwards

You'll be over 100k in debt you fucker

Inspirational post. Thank you.

No prob user. I'm in WI.

For me, the first year is a paroxysmic torrent of anxiety and work. You're workign all the time, under the scrutiny of your colleagues, administration, and hundreds of teeangers. You're doing somethign for the first time, every day, four to six times a day, for 180 days, and a good chunk of your audience is actively looking for ways to dislike you. If you don't get used to it and render an iteration of your personality that can thrive in this, you're oging to be miserable. In my case, I had 24 hours to prepare prior to my first day.

I found myself waking upat 4am just to have time awake that was not being in, going to, or leaving school. I thought about quitting all the time. I'm very proud that I did not leave, and simlarly proud of hte resolve and resilience I developed.

Actually I've been offered some substantial scholarships. Currently deciding between going higher tier vs. scholarship package.

Don't even go unless it's HYSCNN desu

Drop out if you're not in the top 50% after the first semester

Chef
Forest ranger
Transnational train conductor
Deep sea diver

why can't i find a single job that sounds appealing?

You're lazy?

I work for 6 months, then take a year off. This is the third time I've done this. I'm a programmer / IT contractor. I can't imagine working full time and producing anything of merit. All I can ever seem to write during my 9-5 months is depression porn, akin to something you might read on /r9k/. Day jobs are just soul destroying.

>Forest ranger
this

> depression porn

do I want to know what this is

> Chef

Extremely time intensive and stressful. Can't see this working.

> Forest ranger

Yh that could work

> transnational train conductor

I...I guess? I don't know, can they just sit there and write or do they have to finger a knob every now and then?

> deep sea diver

> career

>diver
>deep sea

And where do you get the monies? How many jobs for this shit could there honestly be? Unless you want to open like a tourist deep sea diving place... which would be dope.

This guy is a good example.

>And where do you get the monies? How many jobs for this shit could there honestly be? Unless you want to open like a tourist deep sea diving place... which would be dope.

I think that user was referring to a job that requires welding underwater, on oil rigs, for example. It's one of the most dangerous jobs in the world but it actually pays you for the risk you take and it sounds incredibly cool. You work your ass off and travel and, I imagine, gaze wistfully at your bank balance while you lie in your bunk.

C'mon Veeky Forums. We all know who we are by now at this stage of things.

i think the less political houellebecq is typical

Dan?

>tfw will never be a detective

doing regular police work (shitty beats, catching speeders, escorting drunks) is so uninteresting fuck. best i can console myself with are noir stories

What's more Veeky Forums if my business fails: go back to grad school for a PhD in a social science (poli sci or sociology). This would allow me to author nonfiction books at a liveable, comfortable wage while also not making parents and family think I'm a degenerate.

Or, go to a mid-tier Canadian law school and try to make it as a legal journo/jurist/public interest lawyer. I like legal questions and technical and argumentative writing but am an awful speaker and am clumsy in person.

Current doing an MA in political science and have a promising research thesis I'm converting into a nonfiction book to self-publish. Got all As in my courses. I could probably go to a decent school for a doctorate further down the road.

Can't wait till this is all said and done so I can launch my company. It's my only chance at a non-conventional wageslave job, but I have to have back-up options.

What're you going to do for money in the mean time

he is going to get rich with his paintings

I got a job at the library, I get paid shit though

Insurance salesman

>Current doing an MA in political science
I'm currently finishing a BA in English and realizing I've completely fucked up. How difficult was it to get into your program? How do you feel about it?

Chekhov was a doctor

Unemployable drunk.

Wealthy gf, so I make a little pocket change with on demand app gigs. Frees up time for whatever I want.

Have a Phil degree, was going to go conventional with grad school then career, but I just don't believe in that life now and my needs are taken care of so what the fuck.

But I wonder now and then if I'm missing out not being the unknown citizen.

How kafkaesque

...

I always thought "museum curator" would be a "Veeky Forums as fuck" profession.

Inch a uni student and I also work at a distillery making craft liquor. I think it's kind of Veeky Forums. I actually have a fair bit of time to sit around and read part of the day, and I'm studying basic Veeky Forums shit at school (undergrad on pre law track). So yea, about as basic as Veeky Forums comes now that I think about it.

Damn.

Does it pay alright?

Web Developer if I'm going to be honest.
