I need a recommendation Veeky Forums

gf is final year Russian student and has a pretty extensive knowledge of Russian literature, something that I don't really know that much about. Christmas is coming up and I want to get her some really good but obscure Russian literature, but I don't really know where to start.

Any ideas?

Tolstoevsky

you think you will impress her but theres a better chance at making it obvious how little you know about the subject

Vodka and a Putin poster

If you have acess to people in russia you can take any other girl here, foreigners in russia have many attention by russian girl and dont need stop in only one girl from here. All tan whores you know it. Foreignes in russia have special respect. It's my main recommendation to you.

You can read in russian? Many good obscure literature have only in russian language

I'm not really trying to impress her, just think it would be a nice gesture

How obscure? Name some lesser-known Russian lit she owns or talks about

Why less-known? Get her a nice, hardcover copy of Brothers Karamazov or the-like. Maybe Bely's Petersburg if you want something a bit different. But stick to the classics unless you actually know what she likes. No student of Russian will toss out a quality edition of War and Peace.

In Russian, obviously. Get her a book with the text in RUSSIAN.

That's a good shout. I mean, I know a couple of things she likes, like Anna Achmatova and Yevgeny Zamyatin, don't think she thinks much of Dosty

>don't think she thinks much of Dosty

you have a stupid bitch of a girlfriend, is she hot atleast?

Dosty is fucking pleb garbage and regarded as such in the Russia literary canon

Пpocтo выeби eё, oчeвиднo жe.

Dostoyevsky isn't more prominent in the Russian literary consciousness because of decades of Soviet hegemony, which opposed him because of his opposition to its eventual ascendancy. Fortunately the rest of the world recognized his merits

Actually just found out it's tolstoy she's not a huge fan of. I mixed it up– she likes Dosty and isn't a huge fan of Tolstoy

Post pics of her bookshelf

That makes it worse

Tolstoy is bad, my dude

Get her Petersburg, the novel

Andrei Bely probably would be fun for her.

Get her Oпaвшиe Лиcтья

By Rozanov

Viktor Pelevin? Danill Kharms? Don't know how obscure they're considered tho.

Who specifically do you think is shit

I hear Vladimir Nabokov is p obscure

just buy her a nice copy of a book you already know she likes

Thank you, yeah I know she loves Akhmatova

Oh shit that's nice. Do you have a link?

if she loves Akhmatova, give her some Madelstam, or a copy of Nadezhda Madelstam's memoirs

You've mentioned her twice now, maybe you should get her a nice edition of her poetry.

Get her something by Papa Dugin.

this desu.
Any real Russian academic would appreciate a nice first edition copy of The Brothers Karenina

All the trolls aside, OP, you can't go wrong with:

amazon.com/New-Soviet-Fiction-Sixteen-Stories/dp/0896598810

16 Soviet story writers catching the exact moment it all fell down. Tatianna Tolstaya is the giant of the bunch. Yes, she's related. Fire and Dust will be anthologized for decades. She'll appreciate owning this.

Definitely Bely's Petersburg

Recently read a collection of young russian authors in german, so no idea if you'd ever find those in english but I liked Alissa Ganiyeva,Valeri Pecheykin and Polina Klyukina the most. Other than that, something by Venedikt Yerofeev or Limonov wouldn't hurt either

Forgot about Gelasimov and Babchenko

Is she /our guy/?

deez fucking nuts. Tolstoy is fucking epic:

>Hadji Murad
>War and Peace
>Anna Karenina
>Ivan Ilych
>The Kreutzer Sonata
>...

...

Yuri Mamleev seconded.
