You need to read the Bible to understand Western literature

>you need to read the Bible to understand Western literature

Yeah... but this is true though and the King James Bible is a masterpiece anyway. Whether you're religious or not.

>the King James Bible is a masterpiece

not a christian, but I have read it, it's amazing how many allusions and names become familar the more you progress

>he wasn't already acquainted with them via cultural osmosis

m8 just read it.

don't justify your apathy via fedoras, you fedora

Okay, but you do need to be aware of the stories becuase of their influence on all of Western Literature. Christianity is our culture even if were hardcore atheists. Its like being aware of the greeks. I dont worship Zeus but the greek worldview has shaped us beyond our ability to extricate ourselves from it.

If you grew up in the occident, you are a cultural christian whether you like it or not. Even Neitzsche was a cultural chtistian, as he was a cultural grecco-roman and a cultural european.

Just cause the bible takes so much time to read doesnt mean it isnt essential.

Everything ive said in this post is Truth.
You are shaped by Judeo-christian culture and being aware of said mythology is going to allow you to observe its effect instead of remaining blind.

>being kind of aware of somthing is the same as studying the source.

Youre just lazy. Admit it.

But it is....
Seriously, its undoubtedly influenced all english literature since.

>tfw the best books on the bible are deuterocanonical
If your bible doesn't have Judith then your bible is shit

>don't justify your apathy via fedoras

>tfw you use christianity as a sheild so you can delve into all kinds of esoteric fuckery, and back it up with apocryphal texts.

If you aren't familiar with the Bible and Greek & Roman mythology, don't bother reading anything else until you've rectified that.

Noted. Other deuterocanonical books worth? General Bible books recommendations?

Quit falseflagging.

>know thy enemy
Yep. Exactly. Although I wouldn't categorize Existentialism as the enemy. Just a non-factor, really.

The apocrypha is pretty sweet throughout. Just pick up KJV with apocrypha.

The Life of Adam and Eve is the first actual account i can find of Satan beung cast from heaven. Its a 1-3 CE text.

2nd Enoch is another great luciferian account.

And here I thought reading medical texts was worthwhile. You dumb delusional little shit.

Mmmmm-meh.

Amen.

>Although I wouldn't categorize Existentialism as the enemy. Just a non-factor, really.

Thats fair. I think the Nihilism engendered by Schopenhauer/Neitzsche/Heideggar/Sartre/Camus has been massively destructive to western civ.

Also, I know none of the above professed Nihilism and not all were "existentialists" but their ideals still have effect.

Sure, existentialism proper is only read by specialists, but the idea of meaningless existence with no fundamental basis and an emphasis on subjective meaning are rampant. Most people, if you discuss with them enough, hold an essentially existential worldview. This even holds with the majority of america being "Christian."

Fuck the poststructuralists. Just becuase you cant describe a house properly with words doesnt mean you should burn it to the ground. Especially since it keeps you safe from the elements. Theyre gonna be the end of us all if they arent continually beaten back.

Also, i notice the dangers of fundamentalism and dogmatic tradition as well

The Bibles influence extends far beyond Western literature. Just look at the plot of Evangelion.

Yeah, cause thats totally what he meant.
Fucktard.

Totally fair and true.
Im super ignorant of eastern pop- and classical-culture.
Im mostly concerned with Occidental strains, but the east had affected us immensley.
Thanks for remininding me to delve into them soon

What the fuck are you babbling about? By "anything" I meant "any Western literature," obviously. You know, the subject of the thread? Until you work on that comprehension, though, I'd say you're not even ready for medical textbooks.

>Nietzsche
>Schopenhauer
>Heidegger
>Camus
>Sartre
>nihilist
wew

Wanna know how I know that you never read any of these philosophers?

>Also, I know none of the above professed Nihilism and not all were "existentialists" but their ideals still have effect.

Do you have shit reading comprehension?

I stated the above in the exact post you countered.

Sure they werent Nihilists and in many cases were harsh critics of nihilism (Nietzsche and Satre especially), but their ideas are endlessly used by Nihilists.

Wanna know how i know youre a certifiable retard?

lmao, you serious?

>Sure they werent Nihilists and in many cases were harsh critics of nihilism (Nietzsche and Satre especially), but their ideas are endlessly used by Nihilists.
Holy shit, I bet you think Nietzsche was a Nazi

The existentialists were reacting to the world around them. That was a world of total war and impersonal modernity. The reason people feel nihilistic is because they live in a world they have no control over, that has no beliefs. Art reflects the world. If you want art to change, the world must change. Not the other way around.

He's right, you know.

No, Nietzsche was critical of all nationalism.

Like i said, existentialism doesnt profess Nihilism and is often directly opposed to it.

How are you not getting this?

Many people take the amorality, meaninglessness, and subjectivism of these authors and use it to justify their nihilistic tendencies.

I said OTHERS use these authors as an excuse. I said these authors directly went against this interpretation.

How is this foreign to you?
