Did I fuck up sci?

I am going to grad school for the geosciences, first my masters, then a phd

Meanwhile, a 19 year old made a famous skyrim mod and just got hired by a major company while I'm still in school

Did I fuck up?

>Did I fuck up?
no. continue the noble pursuit of knowledge. seriously

>geosciences
Sorrys user :(

Yes.
>tfw dropped out and learning at 5 times the rate of my peers trapped in classes
>tfw larping and I dropped out but the learning rate has been...damn this weed is good

This.
Who the fuck wants to go to bed at night thinking "My entire career stemmed from some minor asthetic changes I made to a video game that wasn't even my creation"

is your goal to make money?

then yeah, taking a path with jobs which pay well but also require effort is a fuck up

>just got hired by a major company while I'm still in school
wow he is so lucky, I am looking forward to working unpaid overtime while doing trivial work

If you really just want to get a job just get internships every summer of grad school and you'll get a job offer eventually unless you're a shitter, especially if you make it known that you are looking for a job. It's probably the biggest reason so few PhD candidates actually end up with doctorates.

The time and work to get a PhD is honestly not worth it if you're going to work in industry, and is definitely not worth it for academia unless you're a masochist.

Live and let live.

>geosciences
do you want fires with it?

If you're interested in Skyrim mods, then why did you went for geoscience?

>Did I fuck up?
Yes.

>tfw dropped out at 18 to do porn
>tfw paid to have sex

None of what you said makes any sense

>just got hired
That was back in 2013. He's at least 22 now.

intelligent people adapt and use any opportunity to make money as easy as possible and be happy while pursuing their goals and interests and hobbies
thinkin in terms of "I HAVE TO GET A PHD IF I WANT PEOPLE TO THINK IM INTELLIGENT" is a sign of stupidity and frustration, intelligent people aren't forced to get a PhD, that's just one path, there are more, easier paths to success than the path of getting a PhD and you can't realize that because you're a retard
a kid who spent a few months making a skyrimjob mod is a lot more intelligent and adaptable than a dumbass who studies geoscience and gets a fucking PhD
you wasted so many years of you're life and in the end you will be less adapted to modern society than a kid who made a mod
sorry, dude, you're a brainlet

That's not how it goes. They go to bed reminiscing fondly of how they got their start, quietly chuckling to themselves, musing that "I wouldn't be where I am if I never slacked off and played video games. It's important to take a break once in a while, you know?"

You can study something in order to work in a field that will make you happy and get you money or try your luck at life's lottery and suddently get 1M subs on youtube or a job in a multinational company from tinkering with videogame files. Place your bet.
Seriously, just study AND work on a constructive hobby or personal project. Studying science should give you knowledge about subjects in which people without studies can't work, so take advantage of that. Someone with a degree is more apt to find a decent job than someone who doesn't anyways.

This guy is right, even if he's just butthurt about not getting into college. Just having a degree means nothing. There are lots of people who just get money from idiots willing to pay them for doing nothing. Have you seen Patreon? You can get money for doing literaly nothing, just appeal to the right demographic. There's also people without degrees who have developed good products that have sold well, take for example phone apps or indie games.

TL;DR: Keep studying, it's the best way to get a good workplace, gather knowledge and use it, otherwise it's just a waste. Having studies is not a requirement for doing stuff, it's a tool to be used.

>a 19 year old made a famous skyrim mod and just got hired by a major company while I'm still in school
Who?

Also if you just wanted a job why would you get a phd in geosciences?

what the fuck is "noble"?
why do you need a fucking PhD to pursue mathematics? why not get fucking rich by making a mod then working as a programmer for big companies? after you have that amount of money and financial stability you can do whatever you want in your free time, study as much maths or science as you want without having to work in specific branches of science because you need to do research in them to earn your wage

if noble means earning a shitty wage after wasting years and years to get a PhD then I don't want to be noble

being kid who got rich by writing a simple mod is a lot more smart than being a frustrated brainlet who needs to validate his existence by getting a PhD and doing soul-draining research

>doing the "right thing" in life

Basically a Jew trap for cuck-a-ducks who wont resist being wage slaves.

There's a reason self-made billionaires always drop out of school before they do great things.

Because it's not as easy as "oh boy I'm gonna create some flippity flopity and get rich". There is a learning and a working process, and after all that your product must be liked by consumers or employers. Getting a PhD is not a requrement for any of that.
People who get a PhD do it because they like their field and want to keep studying/working on it. Math for example has no place in the product market but there is a demand for mathematicians that need to be supplied.

that's right, you're right, but what you said also implies that people like that fag who made a mod and got hired should be respected too, they used their intelligence and hard work in other ways

they could've gotten a PhD easily but why do it when your goals are different and you can get to do what you want with much less effort? not everyone considers a PhD to be something worth gettings

not everyone needs a PhD to pursue math or science

not everyone needs a PhD to have financial stability and get to do what they want which may be science, mathematics or whatever

>Who the fuck wants to go to bed at night thinking "My entire career stemmed from some minor asthetic changes I made to a video game that wasn't even my creation"

You do know that's what the majority of of STEM majors are doing right now when you boil it down right?

Even at the PhD level publications and research are mostly just reinforcing or breaking down old concepts. The average PhD is not trailblazing big novel ideas they are usually working on the equivalent of stepping stone research.

Which there is nothing wrong in doing but they need to realize the PhD isn't going to make them automatically better. I would have thought the rise of BA cs majors making 80k starting would have shown them that.

no one said you can't do both...but it can be hard to do both
hell it is hard to do just one

>Did I fuck up?
You fucked up by asking this very question.

Carry on with your studies or create video game worlds if you like. Or do both. Just shut the fuck up.

It does when you look at the odds.
