Big thread about life and laws on Mars

When civilization on Mars finally gets established what political ideology will the government rule with?

Will essential parts of democracy exist, like free-speech and fair elections? Should we strive for a democratic life on Mars?

Will nations erupt or will the entire planet be one "nation", i.e a unified community, no borders. If so, who would enforce these borders?

I think colonization of planets, for example Mars, will be very similar to the colonization of the U.S. Even though the people who arrive on Earth are originally earth-people (similar to the Englishmen) but will later declare themself as a new nationallity (just like the Americans).

Without an economy or currency to speak of, it'll likely start out like a technocratic communist society with democracy. Once an industry is established and exports start, a currency will emerge and capitalism will take root.

As per the outer space treaty, there won't be any Earth nations drawing borders, but colonists might disregard the treaty once they are self sufficient and establish nations without Earth governments to enforce the treaty.

JELLO BABIES
JELLO BABIES
JELLO BABIES

Shut the fuck up. Tired of seeing your posts.

this is why we can't have nice things
research about human development has been done in 1g and 0g. we don't know what 0.4 g will do. it might be better or worse, we dont know. im thinking it'll be better honestly

There will never be a successful colony on Mars because its gravity is too low.

Deal with it, kid.

>As per the outer space treaty, there won't be any Earth nations drawing borders
The outer space treaty was always understood to be a temporary arrangement, until such time as colonization or mining became feasible.

The point wasn't to prevent mankind from ever making reasonable arrangements (like territorial nation states) for living away from Earth forever, but to prevent stupidity like rushing to plant flags Apollo-style and claim huge amounts of territory in space that nobody would be able use for generations, then fight wars on Earth over it.

>As per the outer space treaty, there won't be any Earth nations drawing borders, but colonists might disregard the treaty once they are self sufficient and establish nations without Earth governments to enforce the treaty.

Yeah, let's see how long that lasts when China lands on something.

There's no reason to believe that there will be any serious health problems from living in 0.4 g.

Stop trying to force this meme, you obsessive shut-in.

I'm perfectly tolerant of any arguments about whether or not it's possible, I'm just totally wary of that guy's fucking shitposts

>0.4 g.

Mars gravity is 0.377g

>mars colony

>mfw martian "jello babies" turn out better than earth babies and grow faster in the lower gravity
>mfw martian citizens are all basketball-player height
>mfw just an earth manlet

>Mars gravity is 0.377g
how does rounding work?

It doesn't in real life.

Free speech can exist without democracy

You could kill them with your comparatively superhuman manlet strength, though.

just being pedantic

Different nations would need different groups of people seen as "ingroup" and as "outgroup".
So as long as there is neither competetion between different groups nor a different authority, I do not see any reasons for nations to form.

It would probably have a government based off whoever colonized it, so America, democracy, Capitalism, a President, etc. probably as another state or until civil war 2 - USA Earth v USA Mars

It'll probably work in similar basis as territories did during the colonization of the west coast.

Either like that or like Antarctica. It's inevitable that it will separate from Earth after they become self sufficient. If ever though.

>rounding

Then it is legally 0g on Nutrition Data labels.

They will work as a one community while the community is small enough. But once it expands to a point where people can afford to be lazy and comfortable enough, they will come up with some currency and form a free market capitalism.

Since average IQ on Mars will be much higher, and since they will have developed an automated way of producing basic needs for people during their first community stage, they will not have parasites demanding a democratic way of stealing from their peers, so free market capitalism will prevail.

Just like earth. Colonization won't be like america because now there's nearly instant communication and that means everything will be decided by governments on earth. Mars will be an outpost
