Veeky Forums, I need to make nitric acid from scratch. That's right, from SCRATCH. I need a method that I can still use to produce nitric acid even if the world goes to hell.
>method can use fire, waste, things you can find in the environment >hard mode: no buying stuff from the grocery store
Just use the plasma arc from high voltage and blow air through it. Ideally you want higher O2 concentrations present. and Bubble it through water.
That's pretty much as basic as you're gonna get.
HNO3 and HNO2 are gonna be the main results. But you can purify further.

thanks, i'll keep this as an option, i will likely use this first
very rare to find unless you're in chile
Nolan Lopez
user, may I ask what you are doing with nitric acid?
Nolan Barnes
it is a great oxidizer, for this reason (just in case my fire burns out) i can add nitric acid to the put out fire and it com-busts again. this can be really useful in survival.

I'm gonna warn you, it's fairly extensive as for setting it up and getting good yields. When I did it way back in the day, I could only get concentrations around 30-40% by weight. And that was left on overnight, using an air mattress blower. Not very efficient though. A Jacob's ladder would probably be where to start. Do some more research. There is some stuff already out there.

i figure 30-40% would be fine for the uses i need for it. setting it up just takes a lot of planning, which i have no problem with.
senpai thats just silly you would need like 100% nitric acid for that. i mean unless you want to make explosives from cotton or what have you its pretty much usless for survival.

yeah ok.

If you wish to make nitric acid from scratch, you must first invent the universe.
Grayson Davis
I think he means without buying anything from a store.

Probably making primers or blasting caps. I think /diy/ would be a great board to ask about this.

Fields that have been left fallow for a while should haves lot of nitrates in them from bacterial activity, how you extract is is beyond me

Stop blowing shit up Ahmed.

Also consider this for nitrate production en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potash Has been historically used to create fertilisers (you would need saltpetre specifically for nitrate)
