My kindle broke. No complaints, I used it pretty heavily for like five years. Why is there a special $300 Kindle? Who buys these?

I got a tablet to read but I end up just reading library books. Whatever you are used to I guess

my friend has one of those and honestly it is the raddest shit I've ever held

Apparently it feels really good in the hand with its asymmetrical design, plus it comes with a leather case that has a built-in battery.

I remember reading somewhere that all kindles, even the more expensive ones, actually end up costing Amazon more than they sell them for. They end up making their money through the books and other media people purchase for those devices.

i like how the ad is a picture of a chick about to rub her pussy to some 50 shades lol amazon knows where the money comes from

Honestly, as a person who finds written porn far more stimulation than the visual sort, I can vouch for this feel. It's light, can be manipulated with one hand, and has a long enough battery light to satisfy even the longest, nastiest edger.

Written porn can be so much more degenerate. The problem is finding a good writer.

You can't even borrow library books with a kindle. Never buy anything proprietary.

Ha, joke's on them then, since I don't purchase any books.

do u live a 3rd world country?

C...can you recommend me a few?

Recently, I've been wanting an ereader to save some money on books.

My girlfriend's mother gave me a $40 gift card for B&N, so I was like "Sweet, let me get their entry level ereader."

Went in yesterday and saw that the list price of $120 for their Glowlight Plus did not match the $99 stated on a dated promo sign. Paid $65 with tax for this tablet (gift card and promo discounts) and was pretty satisfied with the deal.

When I got home and used it:
>user manual won't open (that came with the device)
>epub won't open
>can't adjust fonts on pdf's
>functionality is trash
>bookstore is plastered on the home screen with no hopes of removing it

I'm returning this god awful garbage today. Say your prayers B&N, you guys have no hope for the future. I'm going to wait for my next paycheck to buy a Kindle Paperwhite.

That's a shame. But having gotten a Paperwhite for Christmas I can certainly vouch for that being an excellent ereader. You'll be much more satisfied with it.

The Internet says it's the best reader out there. Shit pays for itself, but I would like a book every one in a while.

Same for me... my kindle was destroyed by a clumsy woman on the train last year, but I had calculated that in the 5 years I had been using it saved me thousand of dollars, so I wasn't even mad.

I used the chance to buy the newer one (the included retro-illumination is pretty useful), but nowadays I do most of my readings on my phone (Yotaphone 2: it has one normal screen on one side, and a e-ink screen on the other side)

I've got a Kobo Glo and it works well, cost me 80 euros

Just to warn you: the kindle paperwhite has some of these problems too. It doesn't read epub, there is no easy way to switch between image and reflowable text on ocred PDF files, and since it is closed functionality is pretty limited and there isn't much anyone can do to improve it.

All of these problems can be solved by using a Moonreader on a Yotaphone, or just any phone/tablet if you don't care about the e-ink.

Previous post was for you...

shill thread?

user, you're not meant to read pdfs on an e-reader. Those are like fuckin' textbooks usually. Ereaders are meant for pure text based novels. As for epub, it wont read it because its not designed to. That said, calibre - a free program - converts them pretty easily to mobi.

I agree with you, but since he says that he is switching to Kindle exactly because of these limitations, I guess he should know this.

Where do you lads pirate your e-books?

I don't even need to pirate because a ton of books are public domain.

bookzz dot org lad

Works, sure, but many books are no longer available :(

I have a huge ebook torrent from /t/ and anything not on there I'll get from my library's overdrive
Haven't had a problem with this method so far
