Der Magische Berg by Thomas Mann

harry potter and the philsopher's stone

>Der Magische Berg
I think you mean Der Zauberberg

Harry potter and the order of the pheonix at 870 pages

Next is russel's history of western philosophy at like 820, which i use to raise up my alarm clock to a comfortable height

what's a bigger physical meme, recognitions or jest?

War and Peace
Atlas Shrugged

I think it's still Infinite Jest, unless USA by John Dos Passos counts.

>he hasn't read Der Magische Berg
wow man you're missing out

Do series count? I think they should. If so, Game of Thrones or Harry Potter.

For a single tome: War and Peace.

>Harry potter and the order of the pheonix at 870 pages
what retard version did you have?

2666
Don Quijote
GR

>Actually read Atlas Shrugged
You make me sad.
The Recognitions is unironically my favorite book, actually read it please.

It is the longest potter, idk what version i got it from the library as a kid.

In Search of Lost Time.

Infinite Jest or Worm, if you count that.

War and Peace

How did it feel reading the worst history of philosophy available?

dense-as-fuck stream of consciousness novel. beautiful, though...

also, this, although it's got lots of photographs...

i have. i liked it. im wondering if its the biggest ive ever read. only other contender are jest and quixote. and the bible i guess.

all 3,300 of it or the abridged??

Miss Macintosh my darling and the recognitions

I doubt it

you have not read this.

shit book. unbelievable repetitious.

The Count of Monte Cristo.

My edition was 1,432 pages

Really? I'm worried I read an abridged version now..

Lord of the Rings Three Books In One Megatome
Atlas Shrugged
A Heinlein Classics Reprint Thingee that merged Starship Troopers (a smallish novel) and Stranger in a Strange Land (a largish novel) to create a functional doorstopper.

>tfw people on a literature board act superior for not having read books

What edition is that?

Me too.

You probably did. The abridged versions are very popular.

I wish I could get my hands on this. The Dying Grass is probably the biggest book I've finished, though who knows once you get into word counts and shit.

I think it's the Modern Library Classics edition but I might be wrong.

To kill a mockingbird

Abridged versions need to die honestly

there are abridged versions of physical books?

Yeah or have it in large bold print on the cover

>Actually
>Reading
>Atlas
>Shrugged
It's honestly not so much you spending your time as much as it is how you could have read anything else and it would have been better,

War and Peace - 1456 pages in the edition I read
The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich
Reamde

plus assorted 800+ page sf/f stalwarts

The only meme doorstopper I've read so far is Ulysses though, which was incredible.

Why it is so bad?

>havent read a book
>talk shit on it because reddit told you to

whoa dude you're so enlightened.

because it doesnt fit his world narrative.

The vintage edition is 1462 pages

All the Harry Potters combined.

It wasn't reddit tbqh, it was wikipedia, my skimming of the Ego and common sense.

2666
Brothers Karamazov
Don Quixote
Magic Mountain

all in one year famalams

Just finished this and picked up the Dalkey collection of essays on her, Martuerite Young really is a fucking monster

>Stranger in a Strange Land

reading this right now, not the longest book I have ever read but it sure feels like it is... shit is boring as fuck. I only have like 25 pages left so hopefully tonight I can end it.

10001 Arabian Nights.

>all in one year famalams
*strokes anons cock gently*

>all in one year famalams

Even a relatively slow reader could easily complete those works in less than 4 months.

Harlot's Ghost

Yes. I accidentally read an abridged version of the Count of Monte Cristo the first time.

What was it like? Did they just cut out all the slow building towards the happenings?

my diary, desu

Joyce's Ulysses
Dostevsky's The Idiot
Cortázar's Rayuela (Hopscotch)
The Bible

Do those count as doorstoppers?

...

tell me honestly was it worth it?
this is a major decision, like buying a new computer because its expensive as fuck and once I get it it will probably take all of my free time for a two months to finish it.

Have you read it? If not, uh, how the FUCK would you know that having not read it? There are many worse books out there than Atlas Shrugged. I'm guessing it's because you've heard it might not fit with your political ideology? Think for yourself. Grow up.

I am relatively slow and I don't think I could do that. I hang out with my friends and family too goddamn often.

How was it?
Is The Executioner's Song longer? That's probably my longest and Monte Cristo (essentially a kiddie book even if unabridged btw).

>starring Der Felsblock Dwayne Johnson

The Brothers Karamazov

>tfw used to be genrefag
I...I don't really wanna...

The Complete Pelican Shakespeare - 1,754 pp

2nd place: The Bible - 1,746 pp
3rd place: Elementary Calculus - 1,008 pp

>The Bible - 1,746 pp
what type of bible are you reading? the one I have is 400 pages long.

OWC. It includes the Apocrypha and some notes.

I once read through all the threads in Veeky Forums's catalog. Every single post.

GR.
Although it will be The Recognitions, because the nice thick paper Dalkey prints it on makes the novel look at least twice as fat as my Vintage Books copy of GR, despite having only 100 extra pages.

Anyone of the meme trilogy, Recognitions, Pale King, Against the Day, Jerusalem, The Familiar 1.
I prefer big books, they last longer. Also, why is that Bleak House so big?

Infinite Jest is the longest I've read.

The Tale of Genji. Over 1000 pages on wafer thin paper.

The Tanakh

reading the recognitions right now and it's just not clicking. i'm determined to finish it though. gimme something that you think will enrich my experience - something to keep in mind maybe?

IT
Inheritance Cycle
I Am Pilgrim
The Great Hunt

I think Jest is longer but Recognitions is really good. Infinite Jest is... well you've seen the disappointment threads. It's pretty bad.

The longest book I think I've ever read is War & Peace

wait when did hating Ayn Rand become /reddit/? They love Rand. They were libertarians long before Veeky Forums.

War and Peace
The Bible
Harry Potter and ASOIAF when I was a retarded genrefag years ago, if they count as one doorstopper.

All books with over 1200 pages I've read

I didn't really like the recognition. I only liked the first part, the childhood, then it all slowly fell apart for me.

>the one I have is 400 pages long.

lol

some version of the bible are incredibly dense desu

>rating books from 1-5

are you the ultimate pleb?

How was The Anatomy of Melancholy?

>3rd place: Elementary Calculus - 1,008 pp
Did you literally read this?

Or just the system on goodreads you prat

You can get the unabridged version in 9pt font at just over 1000 pages at the least from what I've seen. The abridged version is usually 600-800 pages and has some nice big loose ends as a result.

The Stand, IT, COMC, The Way of Kings/Words of Radiance, ASOIAF if we're including series.

...

>Considers book shit even though he hasn't read it
What a fucking pseud.

What refined tastes you must have! I wish I could regurgitate the opinions of others with such ease.

You are still here? Haven't you realized this place ruined your life yet?

gud book dude, ive been reading it for about 2 years now and only ~800 pages in lole

rec a slowreader a doorstopper pls

Voskuil's 'Het bureau', a 7-volume monster.

The reader follows a man on his daily grind to his work: an office researching Dialectology, Folklore and Onomastics.
In detail, all the experiences and social contacts of the main character are described. It covers the period 1957-1987.

It's essentially 5500 pages of a man's mundane life.

why would you put yourself through that?

Ist der Mann ohne Eigenschafen die Zeit wert?

yeah if they sit on their ass all day like you.
