Do Americans actually clap after reading a book?

Do Americans actually clap after reading a book?

if it's good, yes

t. american

I only do it in a library to let everyone know it's good. Usually people start charging at me to find out what I'm reading when they hear the claps.

i like to let out a 'hoo boy' when i read something good

I clap after reading each comment on this board

yes usually followed by a high-pitched pig squeal

>yurocucks don't clap after good books

>he doesn't clap after reading the back of a book at the bookstore

I personally do a book clap: open the book in two halves, slam it shut. Repeat 5-9 times: say "wow" every time I do the motion.

these are my possible reactions after reading a book

I clap whenever there is something I like in the book, be it great imagery or a well realized plot twist.

I like to clap until the people around me join in, so I do the classic slow clap. It's worked a couple times.

I'm Canadian and we cry after a good book.

On the east coast we tend to be a little more global-minded and we try to keep up with the customs and fashions of higher culture so we only clap after readings in school. When a student finishes a book he or she begins to clap and the rest of the class breaks from their reading and joins in. At lower grade levels (K-5) each student is expected to clap hard a single time at the end of every completed page. In special ed, at the end of every completed sentence. At the most restricted environments for the lowest level students, at every completed word. The goal being that they will reach a reading speed and proficiency that would make an entire reading period sound as if it were one long 40 minute ovation.

this

Americans can read?

Kek gud

dont know why but i find this quite funny

>finish reading an amazing scene
>clap furiously
>book closes while my hands are occupied and I lose my place

>not using a clap-snaffler

My parents were clappers, and my maternal grandparents.
My father's mother would clap softly, but her husband was more uncultured, so she tried not to upset him.
As far as me, I only really clap if I actually enjoyed the book. I dunno, something about the fakeness gets tobme. Like: I'm gonna clap for a shitty book by a shitty author?
No.

That's just disrespectful. You don't clap for quality, you clap to acknowledge the work put into the book.

I'm pretty sure this is a continuance of an archaic English custom.

As you can see here, reading to a group was pretty common.
Naturally, the group would applaud the reader.
As private reading became more common, this practice evolved into a sort of private applause.

Fuck that shit.

I think my way is more true to the purpose of clapping anyway: to show true enjoyment.
Clapping out of obligation is like faking an orgasm.

I think this practice is dying out with cell phones anyway.
It's only really my parents or older folks who give me a stern look like "did you just finish that book?"

When I finish reading a good book I'll say "darn tootin', amigo!" and then shove assorted cooking utensils inside my anus while eating crab legs and watching BLACKED.com videos in 240p

Do frogs really surrender to their books after reading them?

Yes, we do.

First we'll have to wait until an American finishes a book for the first time

>he doesnt wave his hat while yelling "huzzah" after he reads a good passage

i clapped after reporting this post

>Live in Texas
>Relaxing on the ranch with some sweet tea and a copy of Discourses
>Finish reading and grab my gun
>Start with a couple foot stamps, a knee slap, work my way up to a jumping heel click
>Grab the book and throw it up in the air
>Cock the shooting iron
>"After reading books and the like, it is best to burn them or throw them away"
>Fire six shots which split the tome in half
>Get out a couple more claps and a yeehaw before retiring inside to beat my wife

I do but I'm not American.

They do when turning the pages. At the movement, the right hand meets the left.

*at the end of the movement

Rolling

no.

Mostly i like to give it a good licking, right after the ceremonial completion ceremony (ccc) has finished and IDEALLY we're doing this all on the first Tuesday of the month; but that's just me.

What? Do non-americans do something else?
No we don't clap you moron.

>tfw your university library has to give the American students a special soundproof reading room

I clap the book together whenever I close it.

>Americans
Every true patrician claps after reading a book.

idk desu... i think they crap while doing it tho.

I will tell this to my friends, i have never heard of anyone doing it..

>Americans
>reading

pick one

makes me feel proud to be american

nice

>in a cafe
>comfy reading
>other tables with readers
>some with laptops
>man next to me finishes his book with an audible sigh
>closes the book
>sets it down
>sits for a moment without moving
>picks up book, stands and leaves
>never once moved his hands toward each other in any fashion
Uncultured swine

I just read the first chapter of LLSPI. Please clap for me.

Do you have no hands?

That's on you to clap for the book, my friend.

Did he at least chant "USA! USA!" under his breath?

>handpainted-painting

Typical public school mentality.

Watering down true culture.
