better latin, better french, wish I could find motivation to study korean, it's a beautiful language but spoken by the most irrelevant chinks and their evil totalitarian clones

Aside from getting better at the above, I have no immediate plans. I like the idea of knowing Irish to satisfy some vague cultural longing but I'd probably struggle to follow through with something that has so little practical purpose.
>your favorite language
Probably spanish, it's just pleasant to speak it and hear it (con distinción por supuesto)
>the shittiest language

>speak
Native, college-level English, sparse French because I was forced in Elementary and High School, and a bit of my First Nations dialect.

Brazilian Portuguese for when I move there, a bit of Mandarin for business, and Spanish for added benefit in case I need it in the US/Latin America.

>favorite
Latin, particularly outdated archaic Latin because I have a hard on for when it's used in academia.

Thai, I've seen it spoken and written, and it just sounds and looks so bad. Though Tagalog comes close second.

I am currently learning Mandarin and Japanese. I want to learn Cantonese because I have a crush that can speak it.

Mandarin. It's very fun to learn, to listen to, and has a vast amount of interesting literature.
>shittiest language
German, easily.

Holy shit, you're right. It sounds like japanese with down syndrome.

Portuguese, english, spanish and italian. The last two somewhat.
French, German.
In doubt between portuguese and italian.
English and spanish are horrible.

Latin(Very far along, good vocab/reading/grammar knowledge, still struggle through Cicero level but can read Vulgate easily.) Greek(Can read it as if it was using Latin Alphabet, bad vocab, good grammar)
German(Just started on new year, easy, ugly, probably will only use as a resume builder cuz fuck Germcuckistan, might visit in a few years if the caliph allows me)

>Would like to speak
Russian, Mandarin, Romance(Spanish/French/Italian in that order)
Plan to get to intermediate levels with all these over the next 10 years.

>Favorite Language
Latin looks/sounds/flows beautifully. Romance languages are nice but I hear Spanish spoken by filthy spics all the time and it ruins my language boner.

>Shittest language

Arabic probably. Sounds like grunting and snorting.

>>languages you can speak
English and Russian fluently, Latvian on practical level.

>>languages you would like to speak/currently learning
Currently learning Latin at uni. I wish I did not sleep at German classes in high school and also I want to learn French and Spanish. Ancient Greek and Italian would be splendid to learn too but I will probably not going to try to learn them in my lifetime.

>>your favorite language

>>the shittiest language
That's stupid. All languages are very beautiful and interesting, there is no such this as a "shitty" language, let alone the "shittiest" one.

>Speak

Would be nice to speak Mandarin, Latin, and Ancient Greek but realistically I'll probably start learning Spanish at some point

>the shittiest language
Dutch, Arabic, Hebrew (I really hate the throat-clearing sounds), a few SE Asian languages that sound like parrots squawking - Thai, Vietnamese, probably some others

>Belarusian, Ukrainian
Thats cheating, бpaтюня, these aren't real languages

>korean
How did you learn Korean? I was planning on learning it before but it never happened. Pretty much the only reason I want to learn it is because of Korean cinema but I suppose not planning on going there and there not being any Koreans where I live means I had not enough drive that one needs to learn a completely new language. I want to give it another try though.

Well, you can try to read something in these languages without learning. Your Russian won't help you. I understand Ukrainian because it's similar to Belarusian, but I still have to learn a lot of vocabulary to not mix words from other East-Slavic languages while speaking. Also Polish is quite easy for Belarusians too. We are cheating nation

They can make plurals, there are just no consistent paradigms, so you can't tell how to pluralize a word just by seeing it in the singular (usually).

america is strong with this one

Yes, but in English, irregular plurals are rare. In Arabic they are more common than not. Huge difference.

Probably English, since native speakers are least likely to learn any other languages. You need to have struggled explaining yourself in a foreign language to know the struggle non-natives go through when talking to you.

I can't thing on a language as shitty, as long as it lets people comunicate properly. I choosed esperante because it's not widely used, so if I have to say one, I'd say this one for the reason that nobody talks it.

Native spanish, fluent in english, and moderately good on italian (though just by speaking spanish you already know some italian) also, can read a bit of french.
I'd like to better my italian and french (the latter just for reading purposes), i love the sound of german but it's hideously difficult to learn. Also would like to russian. And, maybe, sanskrit, greek or latin.
My favorite language is italian and i absolutely despise the way french and portuguese sound

>languages you can speak
Italian and English pretty well, German so-so (I've spent the last year learning it but I focused my efforts on learning to read, so I'm still very weak on active use), and I can usually decode Latin inscription from what I remember from high school Latin.

>languages you would like to speak/currently learning
I have still a few months to go before my "year of learning German" ends, and I'd like to be able to read Kant by then (at the moment I'm able to read modern books *about* Kant). After that I would like to learn Russian, Japanese, and Polish. I have a feeling I could learn a pretty decent French in a few months, given the similarities with Italian and with my local dialect, and maybe I will make an experiment out of it. I could also (re)learn Latin to a pretty good level easily, but I wouldn't know what to do with it.

>your favorite language
I don't have one. I'm not into how beautiful a language sounds or stuff like that, so I only judge them by how many interesting things I can read in them.

>the shittiest language
I guess modern Chinese. It looks like there is nothing worth reading in it, and it is unbelievably difficult.

>languages you can speak
English, Russian (I can mostly only read, I've focused very heavily on it at the expense of other skills, though I don't care very much about them), Irish (learned in school though I've forgotten most of it)

>languages you would like to speak/currently learning
Would like to learn my local dialect of Irish, and brush up on my Irish. I'm going to pick up a romance language pretty soon as well. Probably french for the litrtr

>your favorite language

So far I really like Russian. It sounds good and there's a lot of good stuff written in it. French i hold in a similar regard.

>the shittiest language
German. It sounds terrible and outside of philosophy there's little reason to learn it in my eyes. I could be persuaded otherwise.

>speak
English
>like to speak/learning
I wont' list them all but basically am interested in the entire Indo-European family tree
>favorite language

>shittiest language

>Speak
English (Native), shitty french
>languages you would like to speak/currently learning
Currently French. Would like to learn Italian, German and possibly Dutch. Ancient Greek and Latin would be nice too.
>your favourite language

>shittiest language

>Dutch, English, some French and German
>Italian, Spanish, and I'd like to be a lot better at French
>French and Italian

So after looking over these responses I've concluded that these are the most disliked languages:
1. Mandarin (11x)
2. Arabic (7x)
3.French (5x)
4. German (4x)
5. English (3x)

So it's harsh, guttural languages and languages with (seemingly) little pronunciation that are disliked the most.

>languages you can speak
Spanish (native), english (Veeky Forums-tier fluency)

>shittiest language
do not want to cause a shitstorm here, just MY opinion: not shitty, but I do not think english is as beautiful as some other languages, but then again, some of the best books are written in english and I enjoyed a lot reading them in the original, also, it is the ""official international language"" so its useful too

>So it's harsh, guttural languages and languages with (seemingly) little pronunciation that are disliked the most.

This conclusion is completely arbitrary. You may find endless sets of different criteria, and different people may hate a language for different causes. For example I hate Mandarin because, despite the huge number of speakers, there is basically no one I would like to speak to.

>>Hungarian

>languages you would like to speak/currently learning
Japanese. Would like to learn Ancient Greek but don't see much use for it. Also want to learn Arabic just because it's everywhere in the Middle East.

>your favorite language
English for breadth of vocabulary and expression. Probably just biased toward my native tongue.

Japanese for sound: most words are made up of syllables comprising 1 consonant + 1 vowel, so the syllables sound very clean and orderly.

>the shittiest language
To learn: Chinese. Even native Chinese people forget how to write the characters. However once you do know the characters you can put a lot of meaning into very few words.

To speak: SE languages. Their sounds come off as either guttural or mentally deficient.

Not that guy, but for me it's the reverse. I love french culture (not the current year one) and french history, but their language is fucking shit.

Can speak: English (fluent), Arabic (semi-fluent, illiterate).
Learning: Spanish (lazily), Arabic (literacy)
Want to learn: French

Favorite language would be French.
I don't understand the hate for the language ITT. It's more pleasant than German or English to hear.

Quick question, what do you mean by this? "With distinction, for example?" Not sure if I'm understanding it wrong in Spanish or I'm just missing the meaning in English.

But really it's Japanese, at least for me, just because it's so damn nuanced.

"distinción" has both that meaning and class, elegance. I guess that's what he means, but I'm a native speaker and it doesn't really make much sense to me either

I don't dislike any of them, but the Afrikaners should really just give up and relearn Dutch.

Any tips on how to start learning another language (other than "just do it"). I'm getting into the TESL field, and even though it's not necessary I think it would be beneficial to know at least one other language. I'm interested in Russian culture/history/literature, so I've been trying to learn the language. I used Duolingo for a few weeks over winter break, but dropped it because I got busy.

- Portuguese(native,fluent)/ english(intermediate/ basic)
- I'm Iearning japonese and I'd like to learn french.
- portuguese
- I think spanish is annoying to hear, but i dont think its a shit language.

How do you get by on this board with intermediate/basic level English skills?
