Not a religion vs science thread

but I was genuinely curious, is ANYTHING, written in the Bible, Torah or Quran scientifically consistent?

Any events or stories. Yes I mean literally so the hurr it was just a metaphor fags can stay home.

science was invented after all those religions, so of course not

kind of, the scientific method didn't exist so obviously not, but some things such as not eating pork and shellfish were based on the fact that they could make you sick

Everything is based on something

Consider that the current fad is that the human brain is like an algorithm and that before that people assumed it was more like a machine

>Everything is based on something
what the fuck is that even supposed to mean? your whole posts reads like a popsci magazine article

I agree with Please stop trying to sound smart

I just want clear examples of when the Bible, Torah or Quran were scientifically consistent (if there are) and examples where they are not.

No because when it was written there was no scientists there. The part that accidentally are in agreement with modern science is just pure coincidence. The bible is the story of a people with some "mystical" elements (OT) and the recount of the journey of the Son of God and his disciples with one or two things exaggerated to exalt even more the holiness of Christ. That being said the bible was written by many different people in different times and cultures. It is kinda retard imo to talk about science in bible since the bible was never written with that purpose.
And it's not absolute truth like American heretics like to say since it's authors had very different writing styles than we do now and many stories form the OT were adapted from other cultures like the first part of the genesis (from babilonia) and the noas ark for example (from India I guess). It is cringy to hear those retards saying how the bible is the perfect truth but they were the ones who removed some of its books because it hurted their feelings.

not much

Those books were "collaborative" books written for dozens if not hundreds of people by several centuries.

Have you written a paper with other person and got it right at the first time? Did you get it right at all?

>Have you written a paper with other person and got it right at the first time? Did you get it right at all?
>being this defensive and and aggressive over a question

lmfao! sad!

Here's some more in depth info if you really want to get into it

A lot of things were pretty close to the modern understanding of them. For example the fact that the Bible says that earth was a sphere floating in empty space was very accurate considering the time it was written.

Obviously you won't find 100% fully accurate scientific facts.

Not sure about the bible or torah, but the Quran has quite a few scientific claims.
>And it is We Who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We Who are steadily expanding it. (Qur'an, 51:47)
Here, it says the universe is expanding
>Then He turned to heaven when it was smoke. In two days He determined them as seven heavens and revealed, in every heaven, its own mandate. (Qur'an, 41:11-12)
>Do you not see how He created seven heavens in layers? (Qur'an, 71:15)
>He Who created the seven heavens in layers… (Qur'an, 67:3)
Here it says there are seven layers to the atmosphere (Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere, Ionosphere, Magnetosphere)
>And the sun runs to its resting place. That is the decree of the Almighty, the All-Knowing. (Qur'an, 36:38)
>It is He Who created night and day and the sun and moon, each one swimming in a sphere. (Qur'an, 21:33)
These verses explain how the sun and moon spin on their axis, and the sun travels millions of miles everyday.
>It is Allah Who created the seven heavens and of the earth the same number, the Command descending down through all of them, so that you might know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah encompasses all things in His knowledge. (Qur'an, 65:12)
This verse explains how many layers of earth there are (7)
There are so many scientific miracles in the Quran it's amazing

What?

It was a serious question to illustrate the difficulties in working in groups. Anyone who has written a paper with another person knows how difficult is to keep coherence in the "narrative" and relation of concepts to one another, not to mention the interpretation of the data.

Religious books took centuries to get written by different people, of course, it will contradict itself several times.

"A circular basin that was 10 cubits across and 30 cubits around the rim."

>>He Who created the seven heavens in layers… (Qur'an, 67:3)
>Here it says there are seven layers to the atmosphere (Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere, Ionosphere, Magnetosphere)

That's a metaphor. You fail.

yes, pi was rounded, so what? they didn't know the importance of being precise in their measurements

Non-Muslim here. OP said, "Yes I mean literally so the hurr it was just a metaphor fags can stay home." Git gud m80.

On another note, neither the Bible nor the Quran were meant to be scientific writings, and so this entire thread is rather pointless. Yes, sometimes the scripture is nice and gives us peaks into the workings of the universe, but, in the specific case of Christianity, do you really think that, between

>"Jesus walked on water,"
and
>"Jesus utilized his command over matter to cause [x], [y], and [z] physical effects to occur between dihydrogen monoxide molecules, thereby allowing the water beneath his feet to support his weight, which -BY THE WAY-, is the result of something called gravity which you will learn about in more than 1000 years."

the latter would be deemed by God to be more important in spreading an accessible message of salvation to all people?

Before you complain about my example story requiring a miraculous power, another point you should consider is that the operating premise of the Quran and Bible is that there exists an all-powerful God. Clearly such a being is not bound by what you believe to be "scientifically consistent," and clearly this is just another piece of evidence pointing to the fact that this thread has no point.

Fucking stupid. Why didn't god reveal to the prophets basic germ theory? He could of saved untold millions. In fact the Bible suggests sickness is caused by demons and spirits (Jesus doing exorcism to heal).

Ancient texts reflect the knowledge of the people who wrote it at the time, there is no precise knowledge about the natural world that was later confirmed. To me that is one clear suggestion they are not supernatural.

>Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere, Ionosphere, Magnetosphere
That doesn't seem like you've intentionally picked 7 despite there only being 5 primary layers or anything

>is caused by demons and spirits

know as viruses and bacteria

>how many layers of earth there are (7)
[citation needed]

>written in the Bible, Torah
>clearly doesn't know what the Torah is

>scientifically consistent

Are you like literally 12 mate?

In the Qur'an, not unless science eventually discovers sperms are produced in the spine and camel piss is good for you.
In the Torah, the rules on Kashrut contain statements and caused Talmudic debates among rabbis that science confirmed much later, namely:
* hares are ruminants;
* besides hyraxes, camels and hares, all ruminants have cloven hooves;
* besides pigs, no mammal has cloven hooves without being a ruminant as well;
* all fish that have leptoid scales also have fins, but the reciprocal is false.
Quarantine was also invented in the Torah, and not rediscovered in the West until the Black Death.

Not in the Torah, but there are plenty of rabbinical debates about subjects that would be recognizable to us as genetic engineering, transhumanism, the mathematical nature of infinity, and so forth.

Fun fact, the whole "How many Angels can dance on the head of a pin" thing? It's not meant to be a specific number. The original debate is about whether Angels occupy space or not, and depending on if they do or not, would the number of Angels that could fit on an infinitesimally small surface (the head of said pin) be infinity or zero?

...

It's almost like there's very few non-completely arbitrary ways to divide the earth's structure and basically none which have seven layers

Most of it is true. Read the Bible, and try to think of every stupid think you think is stupid as a metaphor for something scientific, and it starts making sense. For example, in Genesis it is said "And God said, "from dust you have come and to dust you will return", isn't that completely true? Life forms came from inanimate matter (dust), and we all die one day. And what about eating from the "tree of knowledge of good and evil"? It's an analogy to the fact at one point early humans who would walk around naked gained consciousness and started doing stuff like wearing clothes. You might say there is the problem of time (creating the Universe in 6 days and 6000 years old Earth etc), but God himself says a thousand years to humans is one day for him (general relativity).

>find the parts that don't make sense
>these are now metaphors, and we will struggle to give them actual meaning.
This here is classic cognitive dissonance. Just accept that your book is all philosophic metaphor and don't talk about it with any regard for science, or accept that it was written as a literal timeline and is flat out wrong about some things. You can't take parts from both.
