Is it worth a read?

Is it worth a read?

Yes, if you're in 8th grade. Otherwise I'd just read a plot synopsis, considering the fact that it is a culturally relevant novel. But if you're into dystopianism, check out We by Yevgeny Zamyatin.

No. It's the sort of thing that's been taken out of context and elevated to meme status so hard by normies and Redditors that there's no possible way it can deliver.

yes. well written, imaginative, and I enjoyed the whole philosophy in regard to thoroughly breaking down the protag and making him betray his ideals and reality. .

and it's concise.

I'm writing a narratological analysis about this for class. It's interesting how big brother/new speak gradually merges/blends into the focalizer.

Read "The unsung artistry of Orwell"

Pseud spotted

Definitely

It's entry level. You should have read it already,

Of course.

Huxley is better and more relevant in 2017

Cold War is over

I haven't read it but I've been told it's childishly overdramatic and ridiculous. Is this true?

Huxley's BNW is far more scarier than 1984, because it's what we are being led to.
Bot are very good

Yes, indispensable and you should have read it already. It's not really about the dystopia it's about the facets of human nature that draw us toward totalitarianism.

Any other books you think that everyone here should have read already? I'm not OP but I'd like to see if I've missed anything. Keep it to the real essentials and not some meme list.

definitely yes, all these other comments are just pure Veeky Forums elitism at its finest - can't believe it.

Antigone
1984
Brave New World
Hamlet
Macbeth
Crying of Lot 49
Lolita
Dubliners
The Stranger
Metamorphosis and In the Penal Colony
Catch-22
Labyrinths
Great Gatsby probably

I would say The Little Prince and the Tao The Ching but that's just be me. The above are the things I would expect any poster here to have already read.

>In the Penal Colony
Why not The Trial?

>It's not really about the dystopia it's about the facets of human nature that draw us toward totalitarianism.

If you think that's the main point of the book then you are fucking retarded. Consider the metaphysical implications at the very least.

It's just a shittier, British verison of We

I've been "discussing" the Great Gatsby for years and I am familiar with the plot and I "get" the novel because I did read some of it but there were parts in the middle I skipped over.

Same for the Stranger, Metamorphosis and like 10 other books.

Also your list is missing F451.

>Crying of Lot 49
Why would anyone care about this book outside murica?

Of course they're high school, this is shit you should have read before you even found this board. That's the idea.

Well get to work ya big phony.

Oh and Catcher in the Rye should probably be on that list.

Someday I will. I just don't feel the will to read as much I as used to.

Yes

Its only a few hours long and its a great book. And pretty relevant to contemporary politics atm.

No reason not to read it desu

Unfortunately Huxley is boring as fuck.

yes but you will not find anti trump propaganda in there

Hence why it's "stuff you should have already read" you idiot fuck

>TFW 1488 ETHICAL VEGANARYANMASTERRACE TOOBEEONNEST

Now DRUMPF has been elected, you HAVE TO read it.

Pretty bad.

>main character has dream sequences that miraculously predict the plot

Honestly considered dropping it once this happened and I don't know if I regret finishing it. It's an interesting idea but with terrible execution.

No. Overrated as fuck

The problem is that you haven't already
