How would you explain to someone who failed at high school math and science, who can't even do basic algebra and geometry like 3x = 6 or how many angles in a triangle add up to, that the Earth is NOT flat?
I would appreciate a civil and non-condescending discussion about this. Thanks.
James Thomas
You don't. Stop talking to this person.
Caleb Carter
See this is the problem with you round earthers. You people are so stuck up in your ivory tower too arrogant to explain to the common masses that no wonder people start believing in the Flat Earth theory.
Zachary Watson
They should also believe in the drink bleach diet.
Point is, if you didn't want to/can't understand math and science then there's no point arguing.
Matthew Barnes
>the problem with round earthers is that they can solve 3x = 6
Nathaniel Gray
Go to the beach and you can literally see the curvature of the earth from high enouvh
Julian James
Common masses aren't that retarded.
Connor Johnson
>I would appreciate a civil and non-condescending discussion about this.
Then why the fuck did you come here?
Brandon Clark
you explain that its proven fact that the world is roughly spherical, orbits a spherical sun, and is orbited by a spherical moon. Explain "belief" doesn't come into the discussion because its not necessary.
Chase Adams
>"belief" doesn't come into the discussion because its not necessary.
You have to have faith in the scientific methods used to determine the Earth is round and you have to have faith or believe in the people who made those scientific discoveries/proofs. This is the problem with Flat Earthers. They don't believe in science in general. Everything is a conspiracy to them. You can't force a person to change their beliefs if they're not willing to change.
So as has already said. The most civil and compassionate thing to do is stop talking to them. At the very least stop talking to them about flat/round Earth. Clearly they choose to not be open to changing their beliefs and any discussion will just cause them distress and discomfort. Ignoring them, or at least ignoring the subject is an act of compassion.
James Carter
>You have to have faith in the scientific methods used to determine the Earth is round and you have to have faith or believe in the people who made those scientific discoveries/proofs.
this is wrong. faith is not necessary when actual testable provable facts are available. Faith is only for things that you cant prove, and don't have evidence.
Julian Nguyen
also just to add
This general disbelief in science and choosing to believe there is a conspiracy to hide the ""truth"" is the reason why these threads get deleted and why Veeky Forums hates them in general. Flat Earth theory is a conspiracy theory at best and conspiracy theory threads belong on /x/.
Jeremiah Brown
>faith is not necessary when actual testable provable facts are available
You have to have faith or believe that the person doing the tests was correct. If you do the tests yourself you have to believe your testing instruments are accurate and working correctly. You have to have faith or believe that you're viewing those instruments correctly. You have to have faith or believe that you're actually awake and not in some dream or computer simulation or delusional or having hallucinations in a mental institution somewhere. There's alway something. These are all very basic beliefs that are VERY hard to break yet somehow Flat Earther's have found a way to break them. Most likely to be "ironic" or funny yet once they broke their beliefs they couldn't find a way to "unbreak" them.
Cogito ergo sum is the only statement that requires no faith or belief.
Leo Garcia
>You have to have faith or believe that the person doing the tests was correct
when the tests have been done by hundreds of thousands of people and documented with video and photographic evidence you really cant, with any credibility, claim that faith is necessary.
Daniel Bailey
It doesn't have anything to do with arrogance. It's literally impossible to change someone's belief when it comes to something like flat Earth. It's the same as people who believe vaccines are worse than going without, it's the same as people who believe sky daddies. I don't think people who believe these things are stupid, but they're so passionate about their beliefs that nothing will stop them. If you took a flat earther into orbit and showed them a round earth they would just say it was a computer simulation or that Satan was trying to deceive them. That's why people don't bother arguing. Now antivaxxers, those guys are causing direct harm to the human race, if they don't change their tune they should just be jailed or have their kids taken away.
Bentley Mitchell
There are hundreds of videos and photographic evidence of aliens and Bigfoot. There are tests done hundreds of thousands of times Scientologists which prove there are little demons living under your skin.
Belief is ultimately a choice. Maybe the only real choice we humans have.
Nathaniel Evans
this post is arrogant as fuck
Isaiah Martin
>Demons living under your skin Source?
Jayden Cooper
See there you go. Just keep believing in flat Earth then, it doesn't matter to me.
Benjamin Barnes
>There are hundreds of videos and photographic evidence of aliens and Bigfoot
your use of the word "evidence" in the context of bigfoot and UFO photographs is seriously dubious, and you must know that it isn't credible.
some things are, in fact, true no mater what a person decides they want to think about it.
Wyatt Barnes
this post too, is arrogant as fuck
Jack Rogers
Ask Tom Cruise to test you with an e-meter, then ask him about the Thetans.
Jaxson Diaz
>if they don't change their tune they should just be jailed or have their kids taken away.
you're a piece of shit.
Lucas Perry
the Earth is fat, but the belief that it's a ball is so string that people who believe ttey are smart would never risk such heavy cognitive dissonance.
just like they ignore ptolemy model was standard for 1500 years and claim people knew the world was a ball since antiquity.
then they mention eratosthenes as if his works survive the present day.. they will claim heliocentricism was around 500 years, when it actually took 500 years for it to make sense to the common people.
Joshua Morgan
Guess you want smallpox to come back. I don't care if you want to kill your kid, but when it bleeds out into society and damages other people, that's unforgivable.

Literal fucking lies.

posting photo-shopped pictures you got from conspiracy theory websites doesn't rise to the minimum standards of credibility required for an opinion to be taken seriously.
if you're at all interested in being taken seriously you'll need to do better.
John James
>vaccination research has shown no correlation to greater health when was the last time someone you knew died of smallpox? measles? contracted polio?
Alexander Anderson
sure big pharma will tell you tthe truth goy.
Aaron Miller
people die on meningitis all the time, which is what polio is.
