The Manuscript Found in Saragossa
It's a theater play, but it reads extremely well and it's murderously funny.
Did they really have duels over fucking nothing all the time?
Look at Rafael Sabatini's books (Captain Blood, Sea Hawk, Scaramouche, etc). Plenty of buckles swashing there.
>swashbuckling

no.
OP, it's hard to find good swashbuckling lit, you're probably best served just going down the fantasy route. Picaresques are somewhat adventurous at times, but never quite scratch the itch. Orlando Furioso could be interesting for you, constant battle and magic and what not. Consider The Journey West, and Outlaws of the Marsh too. Oh, and stevenson was pretty good for this aspect, though it's pretty juvenile if you're accustomed to more complex works.

Not really swashbuckling, but Stendhal would probably appeal to a fan of Dumas (while also being deeper and more "literary").

Steven Brust wrote some good stuff in the vein of Dumas.
