Cormac McCarthy

Thoughts on his work? Does he have any "bad" books? I was thinking of reading his work chronologically, is that a good idea? It not always is.

Everything I've read has been solid so far

I'd say if you want an intro on his works starts with something simple and small like no country for old men or the road, then move on to things like suttree, blood meridian (his best by far), the borders trilogy, etc

Who else can't wait for The Passenger? If it lives up to hype it's gonna be up there with his best.

Also you guys should all read the 1985 (?) New York Times interview with him, so many biographical details that are just so fucking based. Guy decided his life's job was to never work and my god he might be one of the only few to ever succeed.

Thanks bro I'll look it up

I just read The Road. I cried
but I stopped when he ruined the ending by talking about trout

he werent nothin

*spits*

His middle work is his best followed by the early stuff, and lastly the later work.

It frames the unrelentingly bleak narrative on both ends with imagery of water and life.

Think of the beginning and end of Tarkovsky's Solaris--though the meaning there is far more ambiguous.

>but I stopped when he ruined the ending by talking about trout

so you stopped at the end?

Why the fuck do picador publish his books in both that nice embossed matte cardboard and some in the shitty plastic glossy covers? It triggers my fucking autism so hard

It triggers me as well. Buy Vintage, my man. They have all of his work with consistent (and not bad-looking) covers.

They do? Huh, is it new? I went through vintage's catalogue a while back and there was no mccarthy so just went with picador

I mean, don't get me wrong, I like the picador covers for their simplicity, it's just how they interchange between materials that pisses me off

How do people read Blood Meridian?

It's my first McCarthy book and his grammar is non-existent,
His dialogue is choppy.
I have to look up a word every 4 sentences and it always ends up being just a different word for a fucking saddle or bucket

fuck him and his pompous writing style

>Blood Meridian
>first mccarthy book

Rookie mistake

Sounds like you got McCarth'd

Suttree is pretty good

Blood Meridian was my first mccarthy book but then again I can read.

I don't think he's a very persuasive writer. I believe that enmity is the law of life too, but where's the antithesis? How has the western world gotten away with generations of relative peacefulness? His work is monotonous and self indulgent. I also despise the ostentatious flourishes and tiresome landscape descriptions in his prose.

Despite hating nearly everything about his work, though, I respect it.

>Corncob Tortillas YeCarthy

>I can read.
anyone can read it
it's just tiresome and a pedantic task

this, more or less .
BM>Suttree>CoG>OD and Border Trilogy>the other three

Haven't read his plays tho.

>literally inserts some scottish word for planting an axe in someone's decapitated neck when glanton dies

the fuck? why is he using scottish vernacular in an american book

even i wouldnt make some pleb mistake like that

I miss that meme.

Is he Catholic?

>"Hack away you mean red nigger, he said, and the old man raised the axe and split the head of John Joel Glanton to the thrapple."

read child of god, he seems like pleb but his writing is alright

>Thoughts on his work?
A tryhard metrosexual nu-male who writes shock and gore porn so that other metrosexual nu-males can feel manly. (Protip for nu-males: senseless violence and dirt is not a substitute for testosterone.)

>Does he have any "bad" books?
All of them.

I just finished Blood Meridian, what was the fucking point? My god what a waste of time

I am sick and tired of this. Every day I come to Veeky Forums, and every day there is at least one thread up with an OP image of an attractive old man dressed sharply and posing seductively. It's probably the same one or two people who do it honestly. Let me tell you something, you faggot pieces of shit who are doing this: you are the poster child for everything that is wrong in literature, art, and society as a whole today. You are incapable of coming up with anything creative, thought provoking, or of substance, and you lack even the smallest modicum of intelligence, so you use "style" and "class" and "respectability" in place of it and to draw attention to yourself, because that's the only way your SHIT "creation" and ideas would ever get seen by anyone. And before you say anything, this has NOTHING to do with the fact that I am an hormone addled teenager. Anyway, I will be petitioning the owner of this website to ban your asses, so enjoy being able to post here while it lasts, because it's not going to last long, just like you that one time you convinced your Old English teacher to let you fuck him.

>Does he have any "bad" books?

Yes, all of them. Corncobs Tortilla YeCarthy is a complete hack. Dont' get memed.

He stopped crying

Don't remember specifics, but I though Child of God sucked.
