What are some scientific ways to induce a change in my negative thinking and debilitated temporal lobe activity caused by chronic depression?
Also please no meme advice like "exercising more, having a good diet or just bee yourself", hence post citations to relevant scientific papers from high impact journals when commenting.

stop being cheap and see a therapist or buy a motorcycle. both work
Nolan Adams
LSD and shrooms are known specifically for being able to do this. It's up to you to maintain it though. Take a low dose so you don't wig out. Sorry if this is a meme answer; I know it sounds like one.
A therapist could work too, but it depends on how much you want to open up about yourself to others.

Exercise is great for psychological well-being. Alcohol is a temporary pain relief but is bad in the long run. Personally, I think that people get depressed when they don't reach goals they think they should be achieving, mostly because they couldn't achieve them in the first place. Try lowering your goals and tackle one at a time - maybe even create some sort of 'thing' or paradigm in which you can comfortably achieve something but make sure it also satiates your ego.
At the end of the day you're the only one who knows yourself the best.

I agree with this user. Exercise is legit: Been diagnosed with clinical depression, and honestly there were days where the absolute most I could do was just run. Otherwise, I wouldn't function at all. Also, that forced me to eat and shower, so yeah, helped. The rigidity helps keep you from bogging down if think you're about to. At least you feel like you have structure.
Of course, I got a stress fracture as a result (still recovering; kek). Figured I'd repair the bike in the garage and just use that.
Ah. Also, I know it differs for people, but sex also helped a lot. Allowed me to regulate my hormones somewhat, even if the effects didn't last very long.

>go to therapist >tell her I'm depressed and suicidal >"so why are you depressed user?" >tell her that I suck at everything I do and everyone I know is more successful than me >"why do you think that, user?" >tell her that its how it is and society values success more than failure, and I have failed countless times that I have given up >"but why have you given up, user?" >tell her I just can't do it because of poor genetics, lack of social life, friends etc. >"why don't you have any friends, user?" >... >mfw I later realize the therapist's job is not to help you but to endlessly throw circular rhetoric at you until you somehow cure yourself through sheer willpower alone
>sex helps
I'm convinced that therapy only helps normies that have supportive friends and a life to want to go back to. It doens't work on an uber nihilistic autist like me who sees no value in life anymore.
Nolan Stewart
The only person doing this to yourself is you. People aren't happy because they have happy lives, they're happy people because that's what they want to be.
Oliver Perry
That sounded a little harsh - what I'm saying is that thoughts shape events. People are in the same boat as you, its just that they don't think about it and approach life in a different way. I had the same feeling, like being enclosed in a black rug of shit. It was because my approach was all wrong.
Blake Morris
To be fair on OP's part: that's the thing about depression. It makes you lose your drive. And it's difficult to tell anyone that your or their life is necessarily shittier, etc. For one, a pissing match about your lives won't end up helping anyone (and you will simply get annoyed). For another, pain is subjective. And third, depression is not very selective about the kind of people it affects; normie or autist, that shit's gonna hurt (and so-called 'normies' end up exploding their lives too. Quit being edgy 4changz).
Brandon Walker
>buy a motorcycle
It helps, but don't work alone.
Joshua Wilson
>and so-called 'normies' end up exploding their lives too.
This is patently false. Normies have the support and care from their friends and families to help with their depression. Their reasons for depression are akin to a temper tantrum when things in their life suddenly don't go their way and they can't "think positive thoughts" to get themselves out of it.
Eventually normies will get over their depression and they will wear it as a badge of honor and project to the entire world how they overcame it. Or they will become failed normies and kill themselves. But make no mistake - failed normies are NOT in any way robots.
Robots completely lack any kind of help and support as they don't have any friends to begin with. Depression is a state of perpetual loneliness which robots eventually get used to and thrive in it.
Dominic Moore
Listen, there are lots of ways to get thoroughly fucked in the asshole by your circumstances. Problem is you conveniently make the availability of "supportive friends and family" as the benchmark for whether or not you will recover. This presupposes that you will always have those people around in the first place (because depression is fun to nurse, yeah?). You can easily end up being a problem (who is either deliberately discarded or effectively so unreachable as to no longer be capable of receiving help) because people have their own shit to attend to. And then of course you gloss over "failed" normies who are unwieldy and do not fit into your "argument."
Really, why the arbitrary distinction between "normie" or "robot" or what have you? This a label you have to cling to to cope?
Owen Torres
If you've had sex and easy for you to interact with others, you do not have the right to get "depressed". You have achieved your evolutionary imperative so whining about depression is just whoring for attention.

This fucking pic, this is me ffs.

Robots are failed normies. Robots are obsessed with sex and relationships and parties and girls. Normies are obsessed with the same things. People who are truly different don't care about such things. Robots are merely stunted normies.

really makes you think

Get your head out of your ass, thanks. I was physically abused from childhood with a family history of mental illness. My household was not exactly a very nurturing place. Now listen, there are external factors that lead to depression, but sometimes you simply also have a genetic predisposition. Or you get both.
Really, the fact that you think the ability to get sex just because you're not an autist is an assurance of not getting depression is arrestingly stupid. Sex is not everyone else's end-all be-all. For others, it is nothing. That's a toxic way of thinking, and it contributes to other people not getting the help they need (and you refuse to recognize this just because you are jealous that you can't get sex? That is shallow). And what of sexual abuse victims who end up becoming promiscuous (they are common; look it up), for example?
Robert Barnes
Exercise, sun exposure and eating right is scientifically backed, dumbass.
Evan Moore
You seriously underestimate how much positive human interaction has on your psych. It can literally cure you. Normies are a lot smarter then you think they are. It's great and all that you can survive without human interaction but if you wanna thrive you have to learn to love build relationships etc. It makes you stronger gives you courage.
