Reading can do a few things for you. Expand your vocabulary, improve your grammar, inspire the ways you speak by making you consider the ways in which your words flow together.
More importantly it can be a part of understanding history and culture. If you wish to understand Western philosophy and culture its important to start with Homer and work your way up from the Greeks.
