TFW u live in Latin America and books are way fucking expensive

since when?

you mean this:

gen.lib.rus.ec/

?

Is not working now. Fuck!

Just buy from amazon, my cuck
Expensive but cheaper than most bookstores

bookzz.org/

They're not that expensive once you consider most countries have tax exemption on books, so english editions end up costing the same as national ones + shipping (unless you live in Chile or some other """"""""liberal""""""""" hellhole)

>bookzz.org/

is this website safe?

Amazon in not cheap here. With import, converting from dollar to bananacoin, etc. it's ends up even more expensive. I'm serious

Yeah, I use bookzz and other online websites but I can't read doorstoppers in digital format. I don't have a proper e-reader.

Also I can't doodle notations in ebooks the way I can just grab a pencil and draw dicks over the text

the ads are becoming smarter huh ;^)

yup, this is not working
hope it's just maintenance problems and not the intervention of interpol

Just so u people can better understand my point.
I was paying up to 300 bananacoins to share rent with my roommie.
GR is 71 bananacoins and has only two in stock.
This is fucking Amazon

>tfw chilean
>tfw books are expensive as fuck
>tfw living in a hellhole
>tfw everyone thinks it is not a hellhole

I got GR for 30 burgercoins
t. Chilean
You huehue, bro?

libgen.io/

they have tons of mirrors

yes but it has had tons of books removed recently.

Use soulseek and mobilism

Give me some contact details and i'll send you a book or two.

IJ is only 9 bongdollars for me

>whole continent begins growing through cooperation and social-democracy
>hey guys that's nice but what if we revert to the sort of colonial neocon hell on earth that's been fucking us up for the past 50 years
>say no more fampai

I mean, I despise social democracy and that sort of greeks and trojans way of doing politics but it was working pretty well and yet here we are. God only knows how much I hate poor neoliberals.

>dfw yecarthy and pinecone

you deserve it for wanting to read shitty books

Why do so many European and American economists call South America a third-second world continent EXCEPT Chile?

>tfw portales was right

Neolib propaganda, nignog

Are there libraries in your shithole? They tend to be free.

As hue as can be fella

Because the propaganda goes that Chile is a wonderful paradise because of neoliberalism (endorsed by a dictator, lel), when the reality is that while Chile is good, it's as good as a lot of places in Brazil, Argentina or Uruguay.

South America's problem was never a lack of wealth, only of distribution (I mean, that's appliable to everywhere in the world, but things here just get too obvious to ignore)

yeah but since this branch of postmodernist american lit is not that popular even with lit people to begin with, it's never available

thanks dude
how do we contact each other without exposing our data to Veeky Forums?

Sent ;)

Another short story of being poor in Latin America.
So an English Major from Georgia came to study Portuguese in my university. We became buddies, altho not close friends.
When he was going back to Burgerland, we decided to swap books. I gave him some cheap br lit classics that I had recommended before, he gave me his beaten up, broken spine copy of IJ and a Dave Eggers book. I almost freaked out.

I spent like the whole semester trying to think up of a plan to have his IJ until I thought of the book swap thing

Just go and fucking steal one, the translations are clogging up literally every library I've ever seen, brazilians are too used to get memed by american culture to fall for such an easy bait.

nigga, stop trying to steal my books

How much is a Kindle in Chile/Uruguay

GR is 13 us dollars at bookdepository with free shipping world wide.

>~200 local currency (~27 euros) for hardcover version translated to native language
>~5 euros for English language paperback
I used to feel smugly superior to people who willingly let themselves be ripped off by buying overpriced translated versions. Then I got myself an ereader and started pirating all my books and now I feel smugly superior to everyone who buys books.

5 euros is a small price to pay for good eye sight

>tfw already got cucked by amazon
>tfw literally cucked because of not knowing something
I think I want to puke

I think it's a demand thing, but here Mason&Dixon is cheaper in my native language. I think it's because it was released by a major publisher.
Internet stores here have this weird thing where cheap books are overpriced because it's hard to be found in the local market and people don't want the hassle to deal with international shipping/taxing/mail stealing that usually happens with online shopping.

>e-ink non backlit kindle
>eye damage

k bro

In brazil, the most basic (paperwhite I think? I don't really understand kindle models) is actually pretty cheap, 100 and something close to 20 dollars, but the rest are anywhere between 300 to 600 dollars (which is still less expensive than say, an iPad which costs 2000).

I will invest in a Kindle when I have a Proper Job. It's feasible but not so soon

If you're in Brazil, M&D is cheap because the book because at this point people are just happy to get rid of them, Cia das Letras is usually expensive as fuck and it came out costing 120 bucks.

my income is less than 500 BRL/month
TFW government coup left parents unemployed and u a lit student cuck

I want to be a rich literature college professor so I can buy Cia das Letras' backlog.

Seriously the translation took like 10 years to make and the translator is such a monster he got in contact with Pynchon himself to guide him in the process

I wanna buy this version when I'm less of a broken fucker just out of appreciation for the craft

>rich literature college professor

Does this happen in South America? In the US they are barely middle class unless they have a best-seller.

Before the recession, a typical literature college professor earned 11 minimum wages. Now they earn 8 after almost a decade without any kind of reajust.
My teacher/bro earns like 9000 BRL a month. And he could earn more but he would rather have free time

That's not RICH rich but a seriously well off and stable condition

>live in mexico city
>can get cheap and good books from stalls in the street , both on english and spanish for less than a dollar

lmaoing@yourlifes

>tfw poor fag living in neoliberal hell (Chile)
>Get a friend whose dad goes everytime to Burgerland because they have ton shits of money
>Mfw he always carries 2 backpacks and one of them is empty
>He brings books and cheap stuff for reselling
>He says "sure user, I will get that book for you, no extra cost"
>Goes on for a few months until I realize I could get a kindle and save lots of money
>Get my kindle and save lots of money
What are you waiting to get a rich friend Veeky Forums ?

Yes it does

Same case with IJ, a lot of their really good stuff is very easy to buy in sales.

But even better, every mall library has a copy, so you can always steal them.

so 52 pln? Its still a lot of money for a book

This guy looks like the Pyncher himself and that balloon hat is certainly WACKY.

Pynchon confirmed for hue/not-white?

That's a Brazilian meme.
Brazil is the Borges of memes

I don't live in a metropolitan area. No mall libraries for me.
Also how the fuck do you shoplifit doorstoppers? How large must your anus be?

I just fit them in my bag, I've actually stolen bigger books than IJ

No, you might catch an STD

Compren en bookdepository compañeros.

Use IRC nigga

Hey chileanfags, where do you get your books?
I'm looking for some semi obscure spic lit but the libraries in my zone only have entry-level garbage and books about economy/politics

I don't like the color of the screen when the back light is completely off, cuck.

buy books off 'Book Depository'
>prices are generally cheaper than anywhere else and you always have free shipping to every country in the globe

come on man step it up

En que ciudad vives? Podría darte algunos datos de librerías de Santiago

>brazilian
>buy a book at abebooks
>6 months later it has not arrived
>try again, this time at bookdepository
>1 month already
>it probably won't arrive either

bookdepository has the slowest shipping I've ever seen but a nigger probably stole your book and rolled up some marijuana with it.

It doesn't work because many of the shipments are lost in robberies.

>Encomenda perdida em assalto a veículo dos Correios

if you are brazillian, this is invalid
buy from livraria cultura instead, imported books like 2666, GR, IJ are cheaper than buying from book depository.

vejam

Borges
Sabato
Rulfo
Garcia Marquez
Arlt
the list goes on :^)

Bolaño, Borges, Rulfo, Sabato, Cortázar, Bioy Casares, Di Benedetto, Rodolfo Fogwil, etc.

Ay, casate conmigo, user.

Te amo bb

also Donoso

it gets worse, brah. amazon bought out bookdepository years ago.

Just buy a cheap ereader for fucks sake

Buy an e-reader, they pay for themselves in no time. Or go to second hand bookstores. Maybe even use The fucking library

just write your own literature, it's free and has saved me a lot of money

you had never been in a third world shithole library

which shithole you live in?

El Salvador

How bad is it there?

>whole continent begins growing through cooperation and social-democracy

What the fuck are you talking about, most of the countries that fell for this are bankrupt, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Ecuador... the best countries in Latin America are the ones that rejected this whole "socialism of the 21st century" bullshit.

>both in english and spanish
>english books
>stalls on the street

also from DF here, stop making shit up

It is a shithole. Get out of there. Best decision I've made.

the domain was renewed, it ran out on the 23.

i am not making shit up bro, look closer next time you are around bellas artes

>yfw gommunism cut deaths from starvation in venezuela in half
it's fucked now though all right

You gotta be fucking kidding me, I'm a brazilian and while the "communist" government was on, I never failed to get either internships, jobs or research grants. Now that we have a liberal one, I can't even find above-min wage jobs, let alone in my area, and my soon-to-be-published essay won't be anymore because the fund for research has been cut by something like 88% in the last six months.

You faggots spout shit like this but what you don't realize is that neoliberalism never benefitted a single nation outside of the US. The "free market" government in Brazil is soon to raise taxes, make any sort of small private initiative impossible and has just completely fucked the state retirement fund (which is the only thing most people have if they ever dream of stop working). I don't follow Venezuela's situation, but I can guarantee you american meddling has caused the recent crisis in Argentina and Brazil, this shit is actually documented on wikileaks.

How much would it be to mail from the USA to where you are? I might be down to help fill out your wishlist.

Doesn't Latin America have a rich tradition of literature, I thought books would be everywhere cheaply.
