Benefits of 40k titan

Are there any benefits of creating humanoid robot that is larger than human for a war purposes? Or would it be just a useless tall target, that would be the first thing destroyed during battle?

No, obviously not. You could do some minor damage to one side of the hip and it would be disabled. Not to mention the numerous other issues. This is just retarded humanocentrism, like we have when talking of life, intelligence and the general future.

No purpose. Real battle robots would probably be like giant tanks if they were big, or spidery

depends on the scale, something like the tau suits or heinleins original MI suits are probably doable because you could maintain high degrees of mobility while still gaining the adaptability of the human form. It would be literally impossible to build something titan sized and still retain any degree of functionality. And in both cases I find it hard to imagine a world in which you can construct something like that with all the functionality we dream of and not have the technology to build a swarm of smaller and cheaper drones

I think the most we'll get in regard to mechas is something like Iron Man's armor. Just take away the durability, because you can't make it that tough, and replace the repulsors in his hands with holstered firearms. But i imagine we'll be seeing full-body electronic combat armor within the next 15-20 years.

>still gaining the adaptability of the human form
what adaptability? stop memeing

make it 70-90 years in terms of actual adoption as opposed to trails and specific, narrow use-case units

>Take a group of 50 kids and kill 40 of them turning them into ten space marines
>Spent 30 years training and enhancing them
>Send them into battle in armour noone has been able to make for hundreds of years
>Someone fires a missile at their ship and they all die

The initial post is indeed the most specific and appropriate post.

Depends how tough that armor and the underlying bolts are...

maybe not. If your tech is advanced enough to build this kind of robot, you can go full orbital bombardment instead.

I guess they are good when you have to charge a city and take it by force. the enemy infantry can't do shit against that.

I can see benefits to an armoured exoskeleton that a tank doesn't have, it can go places that tanks can't due to the smaller size and be concealed more easily

nice bait, i guess thumbs arent adaptive my bad

IMPERIALS GO BACK TO YOUR EMPEROR, PLEASE. THIS THREAD IS NOW UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE GREATER GOOD. IGNORE ALL IMPERIAL PROPAGANDA. YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN THE TAU EMPIRE.

BE COOL, GUE'LA.

no, emulating the body produces something that will literally fall apart from a little nudge. humans won't be soldiers in the future, specialised robots will fill any and all combat necessity. You thumbs and body are not adaptive compared to a robust, tailor-made robot.

Faggot caste

nice deflect because you original remark was dumb af, no one is arguing that it would be practical. And this scentence >You thumbs and body are not adaptive compared to a robust, tailor-made robot is a direct contradiction so idk what point you are trying to make.

Assuming we're talking about proper titans and not just dreadnoughts:

Pros:
- It could be used for intimidating populations, as a means of suppression/crowd control.
- It looks cool
- The potential to mount large guns
- Height offers intel + potential for direct fire onto weak roof/deck armour of enemy vehicles
- Sufficient height and range to engage enemy support units, tactical infrastructure.

Cons:
- Cannot hide, take cover or move quickly to avoid incoming threats
- Vulnerable to minor structural damage - hits to the hips or knees cripple it
- Unstable because of shape. Hence, it would be vulnerable to kinetic weapons/squiggoth charges. Plus, it has to be wary of recoil from its guns toppling it over
- Would need incredibly strong legs to support the torse
- Easily countered

Any anti-titan weapon need not be particularly sophisticated. All it has to do is either pack enough force to topple the titan or enough penetration to blow through a hip joint. Even an ork could make something like that. Heck, you could just fly a reasonably large aircraft into it and push it over. It would make more sense to use your resources to churn out extra tanks than build one enormous titan.

Having a big, dangerous guns is practically the only point of such a large war engine. If you want intel, use a plane. If you want indirect fire, use artillery. So, if you desperately needed that sort of firepower on the battlefield, then at least give it more legs to make it more resilient, resolve recoil concerns and generally increase stability. But there's no fucking need for it to have the entire torse or head - they are literally for show (and stowing mechanical parts). But give it a fucking turret instead of building an entire humanoid frame just to mount a single gun.

It would make more sense to build a large tank or upscale a defiler to make a spider-esque platform.

Let's not even start on the potential for mechanical problems when moving it across diverse terrain types - how would you even fix such a thing away from its factories?

Other than propaganda factor to scare much weaker species into submission before your beautiful human form. None.

What about Wanzers?
