If you could pick one scientific breakthrough to happen that

If you could pick one scientific breakthrough to happen that.
1. We are reasonably confident is physically possible
2. Doesn't trivialize all other scientific conundrums (singularity, etc.)
What would it be?

Definitely singularity

Not much of a scientific breakthrough guy, more interested in technological breakthroughs, particularly anything that'll help with space exploration and extraterrestrial space colonization. Antimatter drives are a bit far fetched but practically viable fusion reactors and fusion rockets would be a good start.

I told you not to pick that dumb frog

>more interested in technological breakthroughs
those are just a subsection of scientific breakthroughs ya dip

A proof that P = NP. Or even P != NP

Excitation of the higgs boson field to study the effects it has on mass and gravity.

Applied science. For most technological breakthroughs you don't need new scientific principles, you just need to find the correct way to apply the existing ones. Antimatter has been pretty well defined, but we've only recently managed to produce antimatter, can't capture it and can't use it for a practical purpose in the foreseeable future.

Chemical vapor deposition machines for personal home use to make your own microprocessors.

Anti-aging.I guess that implies a lot of innovation, so I'll just say success of crispr.

Nootropic gland implants

string theory

>1. We are reasonably confident is physically possible

Cheap cold fusion

...

Death Ray.

I want a zombie virus already. It's reasonably physically possible.

room temperature (or close to that) superconducting magnets pls.

Riemann Hypothesis proved, or disproved.

Biological immortality or substantial life extention. It is technically possible if we crack like 12 reasons why we get old and get age related illnesses. We are currently close to the point when a scientist learns enough to make breakthrough when they get age related brain issues. And if we double or triple human lifespan we'll probbaly crack another radical life extension Before anyone dies.

It's however very unlikely to be a major threat.

Nerve gear like in SAO would be cool. Something that can tap into the brains controls to the body.

Hopefully with less shitty games than in its home universe

Yeah. I was thinking more like the movie "gamer" than the SAO anime.

Have you saved up enough money to retire into it? I'm building a reserve for eventualities like a vr mmo or eternal youth

curing death

We'll solve everything else in time, but I want to live to see it.

That's pretty abstract. Do you mean immortality, eternal youth, or resurrection?

immortality from "natural causes"

holy crap there's still so much

There are just so many "problems" with nutrition, psychiatry, even simply treating the body. It's still a fucking crap shoot that kills people or can ruin QOL. I always kek when i see immortality threads and the such because it's so obvious medicine is somewhere in the bronze age. Obviously i can't label a "breakthrough" point, but that is kind of the point, we dont know the breakthrough(s) required. To me "modeling the entire biological process" is too broad.

Along the same lines but different, is the connection between computer and brain. I dont know if it would even be possible to interface any/all "sense" or "neural circut" with a computer, but if it is possible we cyberpunk now. VR could become a daily part of people's lives. Forget "teleportation paradox", you just jack in to a temporary body, and while this would be limited by latency, you could still "teleport" small distance.

Another would be psychology. It's not very hard science right now, but the possibilities for what it could become are possibly endless. We dont have a reliable, informative way to categorize the components of consciousness and the interactions they have.
For example I like to think some day we might be able to use psychology to enhance education on all levels and suppress aberrant behavior, because we will know all about the systems that govern thought and can better manipulate them.

i dunno, im kinda stoned

It just magically happens, or I get to be the person that makes the breakthrough?

A way to significantly increase the fluid intelligence of an individual.

Something drug-related. I guess either a foolproof treatment for bipolar disorder, or a true scientific analysis of LSD.

Double jumping

Do you think Joe Eck is a crank?
superconductors.org/News.htm

A universal, transition metal free catalyst for organic chemistry. Would make the current palladium heavy field a lot cheaper.

scientific reason to live

Large area growth of monolayer hBN.

AI Singularity

teleportation
a long way to go but would be awesome
if P=NP gets proven ALL cryptography and therefore encrypted communication could get broken immediatly. No banking or transfer of secret/private information could happen over the internet.
That would be really shit user

/thread

wouldn't those lead to other innovation?

RSA would blow up. It may or may not be a good thing; but O think it would be bad. Non-prime based crypto would be fine, tough.

How isefull would it be, btw ?

>For example I like to think some day we might be able to use psychology to enhance education on all levels and suppress aberrant behavior, because we will know all about the systems that govern thought and can better manipulate them.

t. Socialist scum

n^20 is P complexity but any problem that isnt really small is gonna be close to impossible to ever answer

>if P=NP gets proven ALL cryptography and therefore encrypted communication could get broken immediately.
yeah and if riemann hypothesis is true then we immediately can determine factors of prime numbers right?
fucking hell, you still need to come up with a way to break it. If true, P=NP before and after it's proved. If false, P!=NP before and after it's proved. Gravity still existed before Newton [citation needed].

>determine factors of prime numbers
fuck
i mean determine prime factors of numbers

Kek
I'VE FINALLY DONE IT!
It was so simple all along!

int factors[2] = {1, prime};

Increase life expectancy by 50 years, and not an extra 50 years of being decrepit.

>int factors[2] = {1, prime};
who knew "prime" was a native integer?

Finally figuring out that the power of friendship is the most unlimited and easily processed raw energy.

Do you think there would be a skill potential curve with VR jacks? Very different experiences with the tech for different people?

proof of RH will have no impact on factoring. if it could, you could just assume RH is true then get your algorithm. the most a proof of RH could do is to imply that an algorithm is always correct or something like that.

Geez fine,
int prime;
cin >> prime;

Replicator

Fusion engines.

what a faggot lol

You realize the reason for human existence is art, right? Not technological accomplishments. It was always about elevating the human spirit, technological process was simply a facilitator. Make no mistake that when you stand in the louvre appreciating mona lisa, she's not there for you, you're there for her. When we colonize space and transcend, it will be to spread and elevate our aesthetic(as in spiritual beauty, not visual appeal) sensibility. Post scarcity can't come soon enough

A cure for Coeliac disease, I just want beer and bread again.

>P=NP
wouldn't that basically be pre-deterministic math?
I mean, I see how it could be possible, maybe even how it could be done
damn you, now I'm going to have to look into this. And I'll be off from the lab the whole weekend.

Sapient AI.

I'm so ready for the book to close on our retarded species.

plz cure my herpes

Figuring out how gravity fits in with the other forces so we can finally get dat sweet anti-gravity and start full-scale space expansion.
Alternatively, figure out how to get net-positive fusion so endless energy supplies get ensured and a new round of middle east wars start
>t./syria general/

Too lazy to check if this has been mentioned, but:

Superconductivity at a room temp.

That shit would start a third industrial revolution and would have a significant effect on this entire fucking world.

This

Nvm i just realised that ctrl+f

Designer babies.

Being able to put my consciousness in a machine. I don't need advanced AI. I just want to live forever.

You should probably actually research antimatter because even suggesting it as an option.
It physically acts the same way as regular matter does.
It's "seen" by using powerful electromagnets to pull regular matter away from an area and form a "tub shape" for antimatter to safely sit in without touching regular matter. If it touches regular matter it just kind of vanishes.

Tl;Dr: antimatter is not a viable energy source and star trek or whatever theorized wrongly

Underage detected

quantum cryptography

>muh art
you take cuckoldry to then next level

It'd be nice, but honestly it wouldn't be that big a deal. It'd allow most electrical systems to go from ~90% efficient to 99.9999999...% efficient. They're already pretty darn good.
