the main argument is that limiting immigration into the US is good for the environment because the environmental damage caused by each individual american is so great. so, if those would-be immigrants stayed in their home countries rather than adopting american lifestyles, it would be good for the environment.

there is some truth there but it is a pretty stupid argument overall since gains in standard of living around the world are minimizing the differences more and more over time and, more importantly, environmental damage done by first world countries will be massive even if immigration grinds to a complete halt

I ended up finding this stack exchange page puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/2188/two-doors-with-two-guards-one-lies-one-tells-the-truth where, the majority of answers are just completely wrong and yet they have tons of upvotes. I'm like legitimately pissed off. A lot of people are bringing in completely irrelevant practical considerations that have nothing to do with logic. In fact, most of the answers have nothing to do with logic, and of the few that do, most of them are incorrect. The worst part of it all is that nobody seems to notice, and all the incorrect answers are lauded as brilliant, and all of the correct answers are actually less popular than the incorrect ones.

I really don't understand why fairly basic logic is so difficult for people to understand.
